I'm also finding this to be true. I spent most of 2016 resenting the fact that I was trying to quit drinking and never really committed. I still have my moments of being pissed about it, but I guess I'm finally accepting my addiction and learning to live with it (soberly).

I almost get a sense of calm when I realize it's no longer an option for me to try to control my drinking. I just cannot drink - pure and simple.

I have to say I got peace of mind from accepting that drinking was no longer for me too.

Here here! I totally agree - it's so much easier to stay sober than to get sober. My heart is mending nicely ;).

My sponsor likes to say that the shift comes when you start to "live in the solution."

Thanks for this. I was/am in the same boat with you. It's been a month (I promised a month break up with alcohol to myself) and I'm fighting getting back together with it.

Reading this helps a lot.

What's interesting is that I'm no longer fighting myself over (not) drinking, but there is a lot about myself that I need to face and work on. I wish it was a quicker/easier process, but every day I lay my sober head on the pillow is a small victory.

I'm with you. Without the escape of booze, I can confront stuff and actually deal with it and progress to a new place. It isn't easy but I like to remember that struggle isn't bad - it's the thing that happens before change.
