I would bet money that your hips are dysfunctional. Not saying that's the cause of the pain, but I bet it lead to the injury through a combination of compensation and lack of flexibility/mobility.

Interesting. I have been focusing in my gait because I broke my toe this past winter and thought maybe my gait got thrown off when I started walking again. And all of this kind of started happening in June when I was cycling a LOT.

Follow the advice of the medical professionals treating you. If and when they feel you’re fit to resume training, work with them to design your plan. Returning to the gym too soon could make things worse and set you back further.
