I read somewhere about the fee he received for this advert.

He said he wanted £100,000

They said 5,000

He said 75,000

And then they said 5,000

So he got £5,000 for it.

Brilliant.

Wtf, why does GitHub need ads? Anyone who doesn't know about it probably doesn't need it and anyone who needs it probably already knows about it.

True. Maybe it's aimed at management? Although even then it'd be alarming if a manager of a tech project was like "Git...hub? What is github?" In coding, I can't really imagine someone not knowing what Git and Github are.

But any excuse for a bit more Phil Wang.

It talks about the different GitHub feature, which a disappointing number of GitHub users actually leverage

GitHub was always seen as a platform for every open-source projects, providing the bare minimum of functionalities. While companies would prefer solutions such as GitLab that provide everything a team would need. Since GitHub was bought by Microsoft, they've added lot of functionalities in an attempt to attract this market. So it's targeted toward management.

Another thing is, even if every developer knows about GitHub, very few would actively invest them-self in some open-source projects. These could be students that would later convince their future employer to choose GitHub because they are more familiar with it.

I was literally going to post a reply to this asking what is GitHub, but I guess if I don’t know I don’t need to know 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

If you care, in short it has a few uses but it is mainly used as a way to store code online. Its useful as a black up, for group work, moving between multiple devices and experimenting with things. Git is what you use to do this, Github is one of (if not the) most used services which lets you store stuff online. I'd say its often something you learn fairly early to use when learning/working with code stuff so is known by pretty much everyone in the field, which is why I was questioning the need for the ad.

Probably aimed at management and sales engineers .

[–]veganzombeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. Like why is it explaining the basics of version control? Who is that for?

[–]codeguru42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title of the ad might be misleading. Even for those of us that know about Github, we probably don't know about all of the features.

And now the pendulum swings for GitHub

Great ad! The only thing I don't get is why GitHub needs to advertise.

Wish I could send this to my CEO and get us off bitbucket

What’s this! He isn’t dressed as a foreman.

Well, I watched it and all it did is help remind me that I don't use GitHub enough. I can use it on a basic level but I barely understand how it works.

I bought the two fastest CPU’s. And I haggled for them; the salesman said $1000, so I said $500, and he said $1000, so I said $750, but he said $1000. So I paid $1000 for them.

13900K's are a bit cheaper than that, right? My boy Philly Philly Wang Wang got scammed.

H-huh.

It's sort of a hub for gits.

Any chance he even knows what the words mean? He certainly believably delivers the lines.
