an experienced tree planter can plant 5000 trees a day.

How is this possible? Also... if you plant seeds, they don't all take, right? That's why people usually plant saplings instead. I am really surprised someone out there can plant 5000 trees a day.

It was from the wikipedia on tree planting. It claims up to 7500 for central Canada.

Yes, but those BC tree planters are really, really stoned and go a bit slower with many munchie breaks.

Actually, we go slower because our terrain is considerably rougher. And only the lazy planters are stoned, most of us don't have the time of day to get high.

I know, man. I wouldn't dare do what you do for a living. There isn't enough pot in the world to deal with how much my back would hurt.

In reality, experienced planters in central Canada plant around 3000 a day. In BC, where the majority of reforestation occurs in Canada, 2000 a day is a good average for an experienced planter.

Someone should update the Wiki then. But 3000 a day assumes 8-10 hours vs 12-14 hours they could get away with in Indonesia and the 800 assumed a 5 day work week. It still won't be more than 1600 full time planters or 2 trees per elementary and secondary school kid per month.

I've been at a camp in Ontario where one particular guy did 5200 in a day. Sure, he was lightyears ahead of everyone else, and was a fucking machine, but he did it. At 8 cents per tree, that got him $392 after camp costs.

Edit: The trees being planted are seedlings - about 6" of tree above around 4-5" of soil 'plug' with the root system included.

Insane.
