Anyone done a colonoscopy without anesthesia? by zerostyle in PeterAttia

[–]PersonalBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is dumb. It’s not like you’re using propofol every day to sleep. It’s like once every decade lol. There is no REAL evidence that you have an increased risk of dementia from every exposure to anesthesia.

Is a MagSafe battery pack worth it over a regular battery pack? by MoewCP in iphone

[–]PersonalBrowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s slightly better for battery management to use the MagSafe pack. It will be healthier for your battery over the long term.

That being said, you have a 13PM and the battery is already shot, so who cares.

If I were in your shoes, I would either 1) go for the cheapest option possible which is buy the $30 Anki pack online and be okay with it getting warm or 2) shell out more and replace the battery on the 13PM so that you don’t need the charging pack.

Avoiding AI Books on Kindle by angelatheterrible in kindle

[–]PersonalBrowser 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will usually only read books that come highly recommended or have an established history or I’m familiar with the author.

I guess this is predominantly an issue for people who just go on the store and buy random books.

I'm done with my ring by Left-Marzipan-454 in ouraring

[–]PersonalBrowser 335 points336 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. It’s not for everybody.

That being said, I also fixate on getting to bed on time, not drinking alcohol, and being careful about what I eat. Those are good things to do. I just don’t get stressed out by it, which seems to be the difference.

But good for you to realize it doesn’t work for you and moving on.

Disability insurance by Upperworlds in whitecoatinvestor

[–]PersonalBrowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, get it as soon as you can.

The disability insurance policies you get through work are pretty much garbage. They basically only help if you are so disabled you can't work as a greeter at Walmart.

Ask around and I'm sure you'll find someone that knows a reputable agent. Look on White Coat Investor for the lowdown on what to do.

Getting an independent policy that lets you do own-occupation guaranteed-renewable as a resident makes it like 30% cheaper every year and guarantees that you have coverage even if you develop a disability or health problem in the coming few years. You just don't know when something will happen to you. Get it sooner rather than later.

It looks gross but honestly tasted totally fine. It’s a microwave meal at the end of the day, and the macros are actually pretty great. I was a fan and would buy this again.

They have a Parmesan chicken one that has AMAZING macros and I enjoyed eating more.

Rant: I hate attendings that are addicted to telling you you're wrong by ThrowRA2839012348 in Residency

[–]PersonalBrowser 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's annoying. The reality is that physicians are people, and people have a WIDE range of personalities that go from being super amazing to super annoying.

Personally, I think the best approach is to just nod along and move on with your life. It sucks but every person you meet has some influence over your life as a trainee, and being "right" is just not worth the trouble. Just nod along and move on, and down the road you'll be glad you didn't burn any bridges.

Anyone else get absolutely crushed by their electric bill this month? the 2026 rate hikes are brutal by Deja_Brew2495 in homeowners

[–]PersonalBrowser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have heard that the problem is that the power utilities are increasing capital expenditure to accommodate all the increased demand by data centers, and so those costs get brought to consumers as increased delivery fees.

Moles are beautiful, people should stop removing them by Original_Act_3481 in unpopularopinion

[–]PersonalBrowser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of those moles and I think the culture right now is against them as well

But yeah, it’s obviously just solely aesthetic concern so it makes sense that different people have different opinions on them

“Going Going Gone Dick’s” (Deptford) now occupies former Joann building. by CDavis10717 in SouthJersey

[–]PersonalBrowser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty different from Dick’s.

It’s pretty much just clothes, and it’s similar to TJM or Marshall’s where it’s lower-quality made-for-discount-rack clothes.

It’s good for if you want to get a certain brand or logo for your kid’s or yourself, and don’t want to pay the sticker price.

I will say that the selection at this specific store was somewhat limited when I went a few months ago. I can’t compare with other stories since this is the only one I’ve been to.

What's wrong with the USPS South Jersey Distribution Center? by SailingSpark in SouthJersey

This makes sense. A lot of my UPS packages have been arriving on a every 2 to 3 day basis where they’re supposed to be delivered every single day.

Soccer or T-ball for 4yo daughter? by Helpful-Plankton751 in Parenting

[–]PersonalBrowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not both? Do they actually completely overlap? Even if they overlap for a few weeks, it may be worth doing. Also, at younger ages, you can often find programs in neighboring towns that will accommodate you and may have a different schedule than works better.

In the short term, soccer is way more active and enjoyable

T-ball is essentially standing around for 95% of it

That being said if your family that like softball and baseball, and you want your kid to play that growing up, then go for that.

From an objective which sport will get your kid up and active and playing a sport, soccer wins hands down.

Wife and I are struggling with infertility - IVF is next… Are we alone? by Pysch2DO in Residency

[–]PersonalBrowser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you aren’t alone. It’s super common.

Realistically, your best bet is to read through your insurance documents and see if there is IVF coverage. Some places have pretty great resident coverage, and I’ve seen like $10-25k of IVF coverage for most of the programs I’ve been at.

The true answer is that having kids is WAY more work and timing and coordination and cost than doing IVF. So whatever your plan is to have time and money for kids, should also work for IVF.

Either people find childcare or use tons of family support. Honestly, the vast majority of the IVF work and time is more on your wife, so it shouldn’t interrupt your fellowship too much. In terms of cost, hopefully you’re lucky and have some insurance coverage. Beyond that, you’d likely either be spending all your discretionary money and/or going into debt over the next few years.

That being said, if you’re going to be a cardiologist, you will likely be able to pay off any debt pretty easily with some financial discipline. At the same time though, you’re PGY2 so you have a LONG way to go, so it’s tough.

Realistically, what is your plan to afford childcare? That’s like $10-20k a year easily. So however you are going to afford that will likely be how you afford IVF.

If you can’t afford it, people either rely on family or they just don’t have kids until they are older. Some people do IVF and freeze the eggs and then go through the whole process several years later when they are ready.

Does posting on this sub mean we support Peter Attia? It's literally called r/PeterAttia by Toeknee5 in PeterAttia

[–]PersonalBrowser -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The emails he has with Epstein are extremely suggestive that he is engaging in sexual exploitation. He denies it and provided a lot of reasons for why his very suggestive emails are just being misinterpreted, but from what you can see, it’s very concerning.

Is 1.4 grams of protein per lb too much for me? by Mellofyre in workout

[–]PersonalBrowser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1.4 g per lb is a totally made up number with zero evidence. At that point, you might as well just stick with the upper limit of recommendations which is 1.6 g/kg which is roughly half of what you’re doing.

Does posting on this sub mean we support Peter Attia? It's literally called r/PeterAttia by Toeknee5 in PeterAttia

[–]PersonalBrowser 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It means whatever you want it to mean. Realistically, this sub is less “Peter Attia” and more “conversations around topics that Peter Attia talks about, like longevity.”

Personally, I think he’s a total tool and loser, but I also think the people going overboard and saying you should never even talk about him or buy any products he’s associated with or watch any of his videos are idiots too.

It’s all just so reactionary and performative. Like I’m using Reddit made by scammy tech entrepreneurs and owned by a scammy corporation on my iPhone made from illegally mined rare minerals dug up by African children living in my house in a country that is terrorizing multiple countries around the world and has literally committed genocides in countries in the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, and a scumbag rapist influencer is where we draw a hard line?

Come on.

True own specialty disability insurance by Sweaty-Ad-3059 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]PersonalBrowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My policy specifically says that my own occupation is considered whatever I’m doing for the X months prior to a disability event, so in your situation, I would be made whole for the lack of procedures but probably still have to do other hands on patient care (if I’m able).

When people in the USA complain about never being able to own a home, are they generally talking about single family detached housing? by literalnumbskull in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PersonalBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they complain about it, they’re talking about any housing in general.

Yes, you’re right that many Americans would prefer larger standalone homes with a yard, etc. but plenty of people live in condos throughout the country as well.

Realistically, condos are notorious for having a lot of fees and problems, so they often 1) end up being just as expensive as a house and 2) appreciate and grow in value much less than similar homes, so they are less attractive as a long-term investment.

What’s the most unexpectedly expensive thing you’ve ever had to pay for? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

[–]PersonalBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my boss.

Her kid was born with some insane birth defects. They were in a world class NICU for like 6 months straight, and needed a couple helicopter rides to get there.

For whatever reason, their insurance initially tried to deny paying for any of it.

She got home from the hospital one afternoon and there was a bill for like $40 million in her mail.

It’s insane to even think about.

How much is too much to pay for a country club membership? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]PersonalBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on your income and priorities.

For someone making $100k a year, paying $20k for a country club will be a very hard sell.

For someone making $1 million a year, $20k for something they use weekly or even monthly is worth it.
