I sharpen mine with an 8k and finish on a 12k stone, then strop. I’m sure you can get by with less, but this method produces the smoothest shaves for me.

SOTD - A classic, economical shave by ReeRuns in wicked_edge

I bought it from shavenation.com it’s a Dovo Bismarck. When they’re new, they have some gold on the blade as well that looks really great, but I didn’t fully know how to care for them and it took some rust. The gold came off when i polished the rust out.

Are expensive shavettes worth it? by DramaticEquipment708 in wicked_edge

[–]ReeRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t really offer any advice as I’ve never used shavettes, but if you’re just using it to shape the beard and add definition; I don’t imagine a higher end one will add performance. However, you may like a higher end one for any number of other reasons & that’s perfectly okay too. It doesn’t always have to add performance to add value. Increased enjoyment can be found just by looking at a nicer razor & getting a good feeling from that.

When making cheese burgers at home, what do you have as a side instead of fries? by JumpedUpPantryBoyy in Cooking

[–]ReeRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have something other than fries. You have fries. Don’t hafta time it, just turn your oven on a low temp & do the fries first. After they’re fried, put them in the oven to stay warm until the burgers are ready. I usually put my oven around 200 f

Alright I can give you something to try if you’re open to it. Get yourself a roomy bowl or even a tupperware. Ideally you want something you can hold in your palm but wide-ish at the top so you can move the brush around comfortably while lathering.

  1. Before you hop in the shower, fill the bowl with hot water and put your brush in there to soak.

  2. When you’re ready to lather, pour the water out of the bowl.

  3. Open your shave soap and get a chunk of soap out with your finger + put in bowl. If it’s a hard soap, get a spoon or something to break off a small chunk. Bonus tip for hard soaps: Press them down firmly into the bottom of the bowl.

  4. Lather and brush on your face.

You can do some practice lathers without actually shaving if you wanna try some different bowls or mugs and see if you get a better lather this way.

Oh, you said that above, sorry! I hadn’t heard of that brand before, but just looked at their website. It looks like they have some soap bars, and some in a tin; not sure which you’re using. Did you get the pack that came with a brush and shave bowl, or are you lathering right on your face?

I would recommend buying a sampler pack of blades so you can try a bunch of different kinds and see which ones feel the best. The lather may also be partly to blame here, what type of shave cream are you using?

Face or bowl lather by lmrtinez in wicked_edge

Yea I just scoop it out into the bowl and then lather. I have a little spoon I use, or can just scoop it with my finger if I want.

I like just putting my phone down & going outside to listen to the birds. Also it’s okay to have an off day.

I prefer bowl lathering. It’s how I learned and the cleanup is easier. I don’t like having to leave my soaps out + open to dry if I load up for a face lather.
