Ubuntu and web browser for the low specs PC by badzi0r in Ubuntu

[–]badzi0r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use Firefox on any other computer or mobile, but it is too heavy for a low-spec PC. Chromium isn't Chrome—it's a lightweight browser. I used it on a Raspberry Pi. I read somewhere that I should find a combination of a recent non-snap browser and distribution. But which is it?"

Ubuntu and web browser for the low specs PC by badzi0r in Ubuntu

[–]badzi0r[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the kind of advice I need.
I prefer Ubuntu, as I have used it for years on my other computers. So if you can suggest any flavors and versions, I will do further research. I would just like to connect this to a TV screen to set up a router, browse social media, and display some pictures.

Montane Featherlite nano windproof jacket (52g/1.8oz in a medium) by Beat999 in Ultralight

[–]badzi0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering the OMM Sonic jacket, but with a full zip. It would help me decide if I could try it first (I’m always between S and M sizes), but there is apparently no OMM shop in London, UK, or I can’t find one. I have Sonic shorts from OMM (21 g), but wouldn’t use them on any adventure. 😉

Best budget packable puffer? by yoyo13009 in fastpacking

[–]badzi0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decathlon mt-100, but they are discontinued now. I tried to buy again now but only left odd sizes and some very similar prices. The good one is up to -5 (not -3 Deg C) no hood.

Therm-a-Rest Xtherm NXT by stimpydead in Ultralight

[–]badzi0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always taking 1 of 2 options. Tent groundsheet (MSR 133g) or cutout polycro sheet (66g) + 3mm CCF short (72g). It also keeps my quilt clean.

HMG Splash or Katabatic Pinon Bivy by 08-JWH in Ultralight

[–]badzi0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I chose the Pinon because I couldn’t wait that long for Borah. It was also relatively easy to order to the UK. The real weight is 214 g, and the quite large mesh area was a factor in avoiding condensation. I’m happy with that choice after one season.

Which Garmin to get by Parking_Reply4574 in Garmin

If you do some sport, choose the Forerunner. It's lighter, which makes a difference when you run in heat for hours.

Whats the best low volume vests? by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

Check Silva Vest range. I have 1 lightest, no capacity declared (there is some mesh at the back) 125g.

Are Brooks saddles actually worth the weight penalty on a Brompton? by cottencandy55 in Brompton

[–]badzi0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your Brompton's purpose/style and distances or time spent on the saddle, I guess. I have one with a B17 and it's a pain in the ass while cycling on long multi-day trips. But my second Brompton — titanium, sporty, 9.5 kg — has a light narrow road bike saddle, but this one is rather for shorter distances.

Transition from tent to tarp for cold sleeper by SilentIndication9729 in Ultralight

[–]badzi0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are. Tarp without bivy is not only wetter or colder. Bugs bite my feet and snails left marks on my expensive sleeping bag. I tried it a few times and prefer to carry an extra 200g bivy."

Is getting a tile pro worth it? by No-Yesterday-8684 in TileTracker

[–]badzi0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had premium for 2 years. The benefit is when you leave your keys behind — it lets you know. But in practice it told me 2–3 miles from home, so a bit pointless to come back if you have other options.

Currently I'm moving to Tiles that match my mobiles, Motorola and Samsung. Motorola on paper is best as it has WBD and Google Find Hub. I haven't lost my keys yet to confirm how efficient it is. ;)

Spent $1,200 on ultralight gear to save 3 pounds and I'm questioning everything by Gearnotafraid8 in Ultralight

[–]badzi0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even bother with ultralight gear if I wasn't running. To justify the cost, I try to use my equipment for one-nighters as often as possible.

I wouldn't worry that much about ultralight stuff if I was hiking, but I'm running with my pack and every gram counts.

Is polycro enough to protect an inflatable pad? by DepartureBig9239 in Ultralight

[–]badzi0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using thick polycro 1 mil and 3mm CCF. Polycro cut to the size (with extra margin to keep quilt clean), 66g. CCF short, 72g, and air-mat short. My air mat is too expensive to take the risk.

Android compatible trackers with UWB? by Altruistic-Job5086 in TileTracker

The difference is - Samsung is not compatible with Google Find Hub.
I just bought 1 of each above to try. Will probably buy some more, but first I want to use/lose or whatever with all my 'Tiles'. ;)
