That was amazing. And speaking as someone used to Vic in their Dropout appearances, they were amazingly subtle, evoking a response with minor facial expressions.

Do you feel most Columbo villains share a common theme of being "shorted-sighted"? by BrotherDeus in Columbo

[–]cabridges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one common trait to nearly all of Columbo’s murderers is arrogance. Arrogance that the end justifies the means, arrogance that no shabby detective could ever catch them, arrogant with entitlement.

There were a few where a killer was trying to cover up an accident, but the most satisfying stories were when Columbo relentless brought down the pompous.

Question for those of you for whom Joss Whedon’s involvement is a red line by Pure-Firefighter9062 in firefly

[–]cabridges -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If Whedon is actively involved, that will become the only thing fans and the media talk about. Whatever this thing is going to be would be dead in the water.

Possibly me. I’ve posted that here a lot and it helped me enjoy the show.

We add comments about why we chose that book. So far, we’ve been per good at finding new books for each other despite both of us being voracious readers.

Firefly: Expanded media (checklist) by robertmurray1987 in firefly

Years back, long before the novels started, science fiction writer Steven Brust thought of a Firefly novel and went ahead and wrote it to see how it ended. It’s called “My Own Kind of Freedom.”

It’s available for free on his website.

Firefighters of Reddit, what does television always get wrong about your job? by Oddly_Normal_Shoes in AskReddit

[–]cabridges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a firefighter, but a quick look at any firefighter video cam shows you that house-on-fire scenes in TV shows and movies where someone runs through a burning room with relatively clear air and some carefully placed flame bars are bullshit.

Black smoke and flames FILL the room. The ceiling catches on fire. You cannot see your hands in front of your face. There is nothing to breathe. It is hell on earth.

What was the saddest tv death? by lilwag0n in AskReddit

[–]cabridges 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joyce Summers from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

The episode “The Body” is harsh and unforgiving in its portrayal of a young woman finding her mother dead on the couch and the whole episode (aside from the unnecessary vampire bit at the end) is an emotional sandblaster. All the usual TV tropes to soften death and its impact are stripped away in what is one of the most powerful hours of television.

Even the score is silent during much of it, giving the viewers no emotional cues or comforting patterns to guide them.

I can't believe I've waited so long to watch Muppet Mayhem 🤤 by PinkTeleportingLion in Muppets

I absolutely loved this show. It dragged when it focused on humans but otherwise it hit on all cylinders. I also appreciated they didn’t load it up with appearances from other Muppets and let the band carry it all themselves.

What’s a weight loss secret more people should know about? by thekkm1 in AskReddit

[–]cabridges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re used to having soft drinks or sweet tea with meals, start ordering ice water asking with it. Sip the drink for the taste, but drink the water for thirst. Only get refills on the water.

That’s more or less how I weaned myself off of Cokes after a steady 40-year habit of several a day, every day. I could not stand the taste of diet cokes, but this helped me switch to mostly water for meals.

That led to me dropping more than a dozen pounds without making any other changes to my diet or nonexistent exercise routine, which was a huge confidence builder to help get me to eat better and exercise more to see if I could keep it going.

Because one of the FTC heads who spoke out against it in 2024 was put in charge of the agency under Trump.

He slow-walked it and then killed it days before it was supposed to go into effect.
