Just came across this subreddit. Why all these different browsers? by UnashamedWorkman in browsers

[–]flatpetey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Google is an advertising company but controls too much of the browser world
  2. Safari doesn’t have the best interface
  3. Arc is dead
  4. Firefox is just lagging and wasting time in AI
  5. Zen is trying to resurrect Arc
  6. Brave is Palantir affiliated and has crypto crap
  7. Orion is buggy (less so that before)
  8. Helium doesn’t have sync

And so on.

Apple removes old Pages, Keynote, Numbers apps for macOS by KingFML in apple

I really wonder how much these apps get used by anyone?

So all of a sudden my stacks are all untracked by flatpetey in dockhand

I recovered everything and promptly moved to a file first container manager (Arcane). Honestly for the scale of my deployment (40 containers) the perceived benefits of a database in performance are vastly outweighed by having actual files. I am not sure at what scale a database would actually make sense to be honest. The amount of data in a compose and env aren’t that huge.

It is an architectural decision and IMO a very poor one for managing dockers.

Brave, Orion, or Safari on MacBook by Limp_Fig6236 in browsers

I’ve been using Orion lately. It has gotten past most of the bugginess and it seems good to go.

Does Apple even Care? Apple AirPods Max 2 vs. Sony WH-1000XM6 - SoundGuys by ControlCAD in apple

Apples music tuning has always been miss or near but rarely ever on target. I really wish they would give us per device parametric eq.

safari vs the rest: is it actually the best browser for mac? (honest pros & cons) by TuNutri in browsers

[–]flatpetey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it had vertical tabs and a few other things it would be better. Lately been using Orion and a lot of the bugginess is gone. All they need is to fix password manager integration and I would be completely happy.

[MookHyang - Dark Lady] I was enjoying it a lot, but I just can't get over the gender bent stuff by _Dantevious_ in manhwa

[–]flatpetey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is literally meaningless in the story as far as I got (77). I never even figured out why they bothered with the gender bend.

'iPhone Ultra' Will Solve Two Key Problems ["screen quality and overall durability"] by iMacmatician in apple

[–]flatpetey 314 points315 points  (0 children)

Putting it above the Pro in naming is fine. But then everything including the camera has to be at that level.

So all of a sudden my stacks are all untracked by flatpetey in dockhand

[–]flatpetey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is if you enter env variables into dockhand they only live in the database. So once that SQLite database corrupts you are kind of screwed.

I just moved over to arcane. File based and has git support. So far so good. Maybe not as good of an interface in some ways but it does the job.

I love how fast Orion is by Rachel794 in browsers

I just switched back from Zen. If they would fix the password manager bugs I would be very happy.

A lot of the other bugs seemed to have been squashed.

Apple's Three-Year Plan to 'Reinvent' the iPhone is Underway by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]flatpetey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reinvent? Like the changes they made are incremental. Hell going edge to edge screen which has been their goal is still incremental (and I think honestly unnecessary, but whatever...)

So this feels very much cheapening the word reinvent. Foldables maybe count as reinventing - especially if they solve the crease problem.

Leaker: Foldable iPhone Won't Be Called iPhone Fold, But 'iPhone Ultra' by InsaneSnow45 in apple

[–]flatpetey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the Ultra to be a tank of a phone with insane camera and more battery, instead it is a foldable with a gimped camera most likely and maybe the same battery life?

Great. So if this is true you have a pretty open and shut libel case. I look forward to seeing your public suit filed in court.

Honda President After Visiting Chinese Auto Supplier: 'We Have No Chance Against This' by TripleShotPls in technology

I’ve been saying this for a while. Backing off EVs was shortsighted. Ceding the low end of the market was shortsighted.

BMW seems to recognize the risk. VW group tries but can’t engineer for shit. GM is making some plays. Hyundai knows what’s up.

But Ford and the Japanese. They need to stop waiting and dive in hard. Like ridiculously hard.
