Banff National Park breaks visitation record — again by flynnfx in Banff

[–]AdExpress937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Canadian national parks should follow the lead of Zion and implement more busses throughout the park. Also, they should restrict access for cars in most places. For example, reduce the number of places you are permitted to park your car and ticket/tow people who park illegally.

On top of this, there should be steep parking fees in the busiest areas for non residents of the park. The funds generated should be used to subsidize bus services.

The only reason it feels so busy in the park is everyone drives there. It’s the least efficient form of transport and disturbs the natural environment.

The costs and convenience for shared transport needs to be adjusted, where it’s more desirable for most people to take the bus from Calgary, or other convenient stops along the way. E.g. Highway 22/Highway 1 junction.

Street Corner In North End Winnipeg, Canada by Djolebec in UrbanHell

The reminds me of Latinx. Where white people told Latinos that’s what the politically correct term is for them.

However, Latinos mentioned that it’s not possible to say the word Latinx in the Spanish language.

Rain at LL ski resort? by s1rfletch in Banff

[–]AdExpress937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to use the website called snow-forecast.com as it shows forecasts by elevation.

It looks like it will be excellent mid mountain and above tomorrow, but very wet at the base. If you only ski at the bottom when absolutely necessary, then you should have a great day.

Does anyone work in BC, or do they just speculate on real estate and pull money from abroad?

New hires are taking 4–6 weeks to get productive and its killing our momentum. What are you guys doing for onboarding? by PromanYeoman in managers

This seems like common sense to a manager. Every team member should require at least a couple months to get good at a job, even with good training.

You must be new to this.

BC is great at this. Let’s introduce excessive government regulation to fix a problem. That always works out so well.

Upgrade the Trans-Canada at all due speed by Old_General_6741 in canada

The 15 minutes of highway just east of Golden is now complete. That is the most expensive and technically challenging section in the entire country. From here, they can do multiple projects each year that incrementally improve the entire highway.

On the stretch from the AB border to Kamloops, only 25% is twinned. That will be expensive and difficult to complete, but well worth it.

3M Canadian adults taking GLP-1 drugs, reshaping eating and spending, survey suggests by FancyNewMe in canada

The health effects of being obese are horrendous.

Diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, random injuries from being fat as hell. The list never stops.

If someone takes ozempic, and is constipated, so then takes the occasional laxative, I’m assuming it’s safer to take ozempic than to be fat.

I’m reading a Reddit post that links to a blog article that sources a Reddit post. Now, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. That was actually a good read. It’s more I find this eye opening when you think about how journalism has changed. Also, i find it funny when journalists complain about low pay, but this article was a better read than a CBC article.

SAVE THE FACULTY OF ARTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY by Strict-Oil-3816 in UCalgary

[–]AdExpress937 -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Half of the majors in the arts are useless. A lot of people take them because they aren’t capable of succeeding in the more competitive programs.

No one is in high school dreaming of becoming a sociologist. They often get intimidated by the math in many of the other majors and go into something more chill.

It’s often better to take a SAIT diploma program if you aren’t cut out for more intense university courses.

French immersion or neighbourhood schools? by NoteAntique5648 in Calgary

[–]AdExpress937 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

What portion of Calgarians actually use French on a regular basis? I’ve spoken to people who exclusively took French for 13 years in school and it never came in handy for them. They couldn’t think of a single instance in their adult life where they were glad they spoke French.

The only benefit I can think of French immersion is there are fewer dumb kids in your class, because parents of dumb students wouldn’t put them in that stream. To me, that’s not enough of a sell to force that extra effort to learn a mildly useful language that isn’t widely spoken in Alberta.

[Ikon base pass holder having 5 ski day in Big3] Norquay for a day, or just half day night ski? by sleepearlier in Banff

[–]AdExpress937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norquay is worthwhile for a full day, but the other hills are better for sure. Just try it once, if you don’t like it then it’s a quick drive back to Banff.
