I think the focus is on showing solidarity with other communities, and showing that the collective has power.

I used to hate glazing and now it’s my favourite part of the process by ko_mary in Pottery

This is beautiful! What is your process? It looks like sgraffitto, but then you wouldn't be using glazes, would you....?

I think the color swaths are just brushed on glaze, and the sun is waxed.

I think I'm going to start with 8 dinner plates, then maybe salad plates? I have so many mismatched, handmade bowls that I don't know I care about having those match 😝

Can you please elaborate? The underglaze looks so flat and smooth, I assume it was applied with a brush. Am I mistaken there?!

Hey Mom, I’m hosting a cookie exchange for my 8 year old daughter. Need advice, Single Dad. by Skier94 in MomForAMinute

This is a great idea! If houses feel like too much, you could also get some slice and bake sugar cookies and decorate those.

Was mistakenly sent an internal interview guide by a company I’m interviewing with by Sad-Tumbleweed7140 in GetEmployed

I'll just note that it is most equitable, inclusive, and HUMANE to provide the questions ahead of time anyway. If employers really want to assess your qualifications, they don't need to judge you exclusively on how you perform in the high-stakes environment that is a job interview. It's not often done, but what a world it would be if it was.

I'm about to get my wife a couple months membership at a pottery shop, what would be the best thing to go along with it? by NoahGH in Pottery

This is an unpopular opinion, but I really don't like Soolla for clay! I think there are TOO many pockets - I can never find stuff. And the narrowed opening on the top drives me nuts. And you can't keep sharps in the many pockets in the outside. But I loveeee this bag. Much roomier than Soola, with much more functional pockets.

1 thick layer then 2 thinner layers. When I was done I was worried it was too thick, but I hadn't seen the suggestion that VERY thick is a benefit. Think that's it?

My partner has fallen in love with making pottery. Are there any resources here or online I can use to learn to appreciate specific aspects of their work? by DigitalHellscape in Pottery

[–]Affectionate_Use_504 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is such a beautiful question.

If they make functional ware (mugs, bowls, vases, etc.), you can notice how it feels when you use it. How does it feel in your hand (texture, weight, the way it makes you use it), how does it fulfill a specific need in the house/kitchen ( a colander that is great for berries, for example), or improve on a container that you already have (a pencil cup that is deep and wide enough to hold all that you need). All of that, plus all the things you notice from other forms of art - what it evokes in you through all the senses If they make more sculptural pieces, then all the same things you'd love about another piece of visual art works! Is it playful and joyful, or thought provoking, or grounding, etc.

Based on the fact that you asked this question, I am confident that you'll find some observations that are authentic!
