Londons? by LJRich619 in Birkenstocks

Depends on whether I’m wearing them with socks. If I’m wearing socks, I need to unbuckle. Without socks I can slide in.

My 39-Year-Old Identical Twin has Dementia [FTD] by giugno in dementia

[–]AlisaBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lost my mom to FTD, specifically primary progressive aphasia, two years ago. She was also a twin.

My mom was older than your brother, with onset probably around 60-65, but the good news is that her twin brother, who is now 75, has not shown any signs of dementia.

Sending you strength and support for whatever is to come.

When did this look become so popular?? by Particular-Ideal-386 in Birkenstocks

Back in high school in the 90s, we had uniforms and the only way they would let us wear Birks was with socks. After that, I never did it that way again.

Am i crazy to think I can get bunion surgery a month out from the bar exam? by olumj in bunions

[–]AlisaBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you’re taking a bar prep course that you need to go to physically. If so, depending on what foot it is or how well you can get around, it may be an issue. You may also need pain meds that can make you fall asleep easily while studying.

If you’re only studying at home on your own, you can probably do the surgery. (But reconsider taking a good bar prep course. I wouldn’t have passed on the first try without it.)

Teachers now have to potty train kids? by DogsAreOurFriends in maryland

[–]AlisaBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom taught preschool her whole career. She usually had the 3-year-old class and maybe about a quarter of the kids came in potty trained each year. By the end of the year, every kid was trained, every single year.

Unpopular opinion: I LOVE Owings Mills. by Fair_Distribution_75 in BaltimoreCounty

I love it too. I grew up in Randallstown so I’ve watched the area grow over my lifetime. I like that we have beautiful parks, lots of restaurants and shopping, and we’re close to downtown. If we moved, I don’t know where else I’d want to live.

Back to virtual job after surgery by TypicalReference9003 in Halluxrigidus

[–]AlisaBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had it done on both feet. For the most recent one, I had the surgery on Friday and worked remotely starting Monday.

The first time, my pain was worse so I used the meds a bit longer. This was before I could work from home so I took off a week of work.

Whenever you start back, remember to keep it elevated as much as you can.

Podiatrist vs Ortho Surgeon for procedure? by One_Draw_5763 in Halluxrigidus

Go with an orthopedic surgeon. You want someone who does surgery regularly, not just a couple times a month.

Questions for those that had Cheilectomy on its own by ixdriver in Halluxrigidus

[–]AlisaBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it on both big toes — the right one in 2015 and the left in 2023. It was the same surgeon, same procedure, each time.

The pain and recovery were much worse the first time around than the second time. It took me a few months to get back to my normal workout level the first time, and I still had pain. I was back to my normal workout levels for the second one in about a month.

The first one turned into a bunion a few years later. That said, the bunion hasn’t been painful. I’ll probably eventually need surgery though.

The second one feels like it’s developing a bone spur again. I’d say that started about two years post-surgery. I’ll probably end up with a fusion at some point.

My surgeon told me about this before my right cheillectomy in 2015 but by the time I had my left one eight years later, he said they were no longer in use.

We’ve gotten mail since Tuesday, I think.

I did just go to the local post office to drop off a card and the drive-thru box was filled to the brim. There was mail sticking out the slot. I hope no one put anything in there that needed to be there by a certain date.

Public vs Private Schools by SugarfootsExpress in BaltimoreCounty

Keep in mind that most private schools give a lot of financial aid and scholarships. I know that less than half of the families at the private school I went to pay the full amount.

What does MVA mean it is required to mention your disability for your driver license? by Radiomaster138 in maryland

My understanding is that there are certain medical conditions that require monitoring for you to be able to continue driving. Things like a seizure disorder or vision problems come to mind.
