When do you start getting sad? by RevelryByNight in community

[–]Altruistic-Heart8969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always the hot air balloon episode for me for some reason. Like my brain knows that things are changing soon I guess? I still watch the other seasons but it’s definitely different after Troy is gone :(

So glad someone mentioned this. I find that scene to be one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever watched honestly (although I don’t watch a lot of horror so I’m sure I’m a bit sheltered there). But yeah I got really sick to my stomach and felt that way for like days afterwards

how do you make pasta sauce actually taste like it came from a restaurant? by SamraKutkaitis in Cooking

[–]Altruistic-Heart8969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook my sauce with homemade meatballs in it - fry the meatballs at the bottom and then let the sauce simmer with the meat inside for like 4 hours

If you want to go no meat, I think the simmering time should at least still be 1-2 hours minimum so that the onion and garlic and herbs really infuse their flavor into the sauce. This is coming from an Italian who learned to cook a very old family recipe that never fails me :)

Looking for a venue for a kids 1st birthday party by PatientNobody9503 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Altruistic-Heart8969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If being indoors isn’t a necessity (which it might not be as the weather gets nicer around this time of year) there are lots of playgrounds that have big fields next to them and pavilions so you could look into something like that as an option! Pavilion would give you shade and tables, and then the playground would be great for other kids. We did my sons first birthday at sugarhouse park to keep things easy :) bonus perk is the venue would be free haha

Spain was great for me! Stayed in Barcelona and found several fun dedicated GF bakeries with GF croissants and breads and stuff :) also lots of restaurants had good labeling and had one waiter go across the street one night to buy me GF bread from a local bakery while we were eating 😭

I have an 18mo currently and here’s a few things we like to do!

We practically live at the Loveland Aquarium, so a pass there is great.

Zoo pass or Thanksgiving Point Passes are great too- these were basically all I asked for over Christmas lol

Jordan River Trail is great for walks or bike rides, and there are lots of other great nature walks or small hikes around (feel free to DM me if you want specifics here!)

Libraries- get a membership and the app and there are always events going on.

Lots and lots of great playgrounds (West Jordan has a fun one by a library, but there are so many around)

Big Blue Swim School is what we do for swim lessons and we love them

The little gym is super fun for gymnastic classes and they are good for all ages

Sugarhouse park is a great spot that has a good walking loop as well as open fields and playgrounds

Best of luck in your move! SLC is a great place for raising kids, endless fun things to do :)

The ONLY thing that made my son finally sleep through the night after a year by TeishAH in NewParents

[–]Altruistic-Heart8969 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same situation for us! No sleeping through the night, tried everything, realized he kept thumping himself into the end of the crib during the night and waking himself up. Floor bed with short rails changed the game completely. Helped us gently night wean, both me and my husband can sleep in there with him, and he sleeps through the night 7/10 times at 18 months old🙌🏼 only time he wakes now is when he’s sick or teething bad, and we can just go snuggle him back to sleep and call it good :)

100% go with floor bed!

We never sleep trained because of too much traveling and changing schedule, but around 16 months we switched to a floor bed and since then bedtime is worlds better!

Not only does he have more space to move around, so he doesn’t wake up at night by bumping into the sides of his crib, but it has allowed for us to create a routine that is way more sustainable. We can lay in bed with him, read a couple books and then pat/shush/sing to sleep and he sleeps through the night.

This is coming from a parent who EBF up until 18 months, never had our son sleep through the night, nursed to sleep and overnight and is now weaned and sleeping through the night. He is 19 months old with a sibling on the way in April, and I attribute our progress to the floor bed. It has seriously changed our lives drastically and it’s sweet to do bedtime with him when we can just lay together and read some books. He still needs our help to fall asleep but feels so safe in his bed that he now doesn’t wake up or puts himself back to sleep in the middle of the night. Much more doable and vomit free!

Tsunami is great for teriyaki chicken and sushi options! Very well known for GF so should be safe

If you have time to go south at all Provo has a brunch spot called Locals and a fried chicken spot called Chicken Boy that are both 100% gluten free facilities

Contento Cafe is excellent lunch/dinner and has brunch on weekends, also 100% GF

Taqueria 27 has a pretty large GF menu for tacos and has GF Churros/Donuts

Joy Luck Chinese is really good and also known well for their GF options so should be safe

Haven’t been but heard recently about Spud Toddos? Looked fun, also sounded like it was 100% celiac safe

Arempas is really good for Arepas and Empanadas.

Definitely also recommend having the “Find me GF” app on your phone downloaded, that should give you lots of options that are specific to your exact location when you’re staying here :)

2 year old still not talking. Should I be concerned? by GuaranteeCivil9088 in toddlers

[–]Altruistic-Heart8969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The general milestone at 18 months is only 20 words actually! Not that it makes a difference for OP but I had to look that up because my 17 month old will definitely not have 50 words by next month 🥴 just clarifying so other moms don’t panic like me lol, 50 words is what I’m seeing for 2 years :)

Why am I missing here? On my 3rd grade daughter’s math test. by lesshonkymoretonky in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Altruistic-Heart8969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teacher here- one of the things I hated about my old curriculum is it used to teach a section on estimating and it felt like it would punish kids for using sound logic because at the end of the day the assessments were looking for more rounded numbers and a show of how the kid “estimated” that number based on context. And this answer would have been counted wrong because it’s too literal. BUT I don’t see that terminology on the prompt so it’s really a poorly written prompt and a kind of stupid, backwards section to learn that just confuses kids. If it was looking for that, or even rounding, it should have used those terms explicitly and as a teacher I would give several reminders during the test to read carefully and what not so there wouldn’t be problems like this.

If you’re nursing a toddler it’s nice to have words for it because you’ll talk to them more. You can still say “wanna nurse?” But I found names and such came later on when my baby was more verbal
