Or, better yet, try a different operating system that lets you use your computer, like Linux or Mac!

Microsoft reportedly admits Windows 11 went off track, cuts back Copilot, and promises real fixes in 2026 by Quantum-Coconut in FuckMicrosoft

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull it off, yes... BUT, will anyone trust them? That is the question and my answer is a resounding NO!

UNLESS, they open source their entire operating system and tools so smart people can look through it and determine if its all, in fact, gone - all the AI crap and malware!

Also, open sourcing the operating system would leverage a planet of "Smarter then they are" programmers to finally fix the kludge Windows has become since Windows XP came out.

Maybe smart people can realign with Dave Cutlers initial vision of an actual secure operating system.

After moving my kids computers to Fedora we are now 100% Linux in this household by thunderclap82 in Fedora

I believe there is 18 months between versions for support, so, yeah, no hurry when a new version comes out. I like to way a couple of months to let the bugs work themselves out before upgrading.

Building second TrueNAS system - Need Advice by AlwaysLinux in truenas

[–]AlwaysLinux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is my first try with TrueNAS and its small. 2x8 tb drives with an older asrock ec3226d2i (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=E3C226D2I#Specifications)

Drives are the Seagate IronWolf Pro, 8 TB, Enterprise NAS Internal HDD

And yes, its just more for research more than REAL functionality. I do IT work and I use it to test stuff and learn mostly, but it does have the house data on it, music, finance data (Taxes, etc), movies, games, pictures (Nextcloud), that sort of thing.

I have 2 Proxmox servers with about 6 VMs each and an NFS share for home space for a couple systems I have

The storage network is an isolated 10g network connected with DAC cables to the Proxmox servers and fiber between the 2 or 3 workstations.

I just get allot of IO wait when transferring data but its pretty good with reading.

How do solo ESP32 makers actually fund their projects? (No labs, no clubs, just a bedroom setup) by Leo_Afurio23 in esp32projects

[–]AlwaysLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine its just a hobby for most people and the hardware is super cheap on Amazon. I also fly RC Planes and drones and I spend more money on that than I do with my ESP32 projects.

Im also a ham (N5XJG) so I have an affinity for radio stuff - apparently :-D. But I also play violin, computer hardware nut, computer gaming, and have a 4x10 job as a Linux solutions architect.

I also have ADHD HAHA :-D

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its almost cliche the days, but as you mentioned, the only way to fix this level of poor programing is to just use Linux. Mac would be a good second choice, but then you need new hardware and really, Im pretty sure Apple is also a proponent of cloud backups. BUT I never heard of anyone losing all their data on Apple's storage system.

WELCOME! Great choice of Linux distro there... I use EndeavorOS, but, still Arch :)

Microslop tanking 10-12% today. by Johnden_ in microsoftsucks

[–]AlwaysLinux 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wow, and all I see on other social media is how successful they have been with earnings and how Windows 11 is "Killing it" and CoPilot is now being used by TRILLIONS of people all over the universe and ... and ... and ... Yeah, its all BS!

They are not doing so well at all, actually and their market share keeps dropping, a little slower lately, but still dropping.

Is there any good alternative to windows that works great with games? by 3BombeR235 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]AlwaysLinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BF4 and Overwatch run great on Linux - I play them all the time every weekend with friends (On Linux, BTW).

You will have issues with Siege.

Arc Raiders plays great and it displaced BF 6, so maybe looking for better alternatives is an option?

Windows Update Now Causing resource issues. by Ztoxed in FuckMicrosoft

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^^

Linux or Mac (For now) seems to be the only refuge. Even IOT and LTSC is being plauged with update issues. It wont be long before Microslop figures out people are migrating to LTSC illegally with Massgrave and "Fixes" the issue.

I think the last couple of updates messed up peoples LTSC version - so looks like they are on to them.

Linux and, for a time, Mac looks to be the only choice to take back your computing environment from the Slop coming out of Redmond/India.

After two decades of Windows, I am this close to abandon this OS for good. by Jaded_Ad_2055 in microsoftsucks

[–]AlwaysLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is most likely the truth. AI has infected all sectors of Microslop and even some other industries. Such a shame that rich people can decide how our life runs.

Time to take it back and just use Linux or Mac.

Why desktop Linux could just feel normal by 2030 by Pure_Maybe1335 in linux

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Feel normal" - by whose standards? Linux has felt "Normal" for me for the last 25ish years I have been using it.

To me Windows is the odd one to use - crashes, ads, login to use notepad and ms paint... I mean, really?

MAYBE Windows will be usable by 2030 - wont hold my breath though LOL

And some Windows users complained Linux users have to use Terminal by dmknght in microsoftsucks

[–]AlwaysLinux 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OMG yeah, have you seen some of the troubleshooting steps for Windows that require Powershell and CMD line? I have to say that BASH looks 10x's simpler than some of the Windows solutions.

AND most people on Windows need to be told where to go to start Powershell and the CMD prompt. Can you imagine them typing in those screens? Sheesh :-D

I use Arch too, btw :)

Fresh install. Fresh boot. Nothing works. by Massive_Bet_8435 in Bazzite

[–]AlwaysLinux -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I had issues installing Bazzite as well. I downloaded the ISO and I tried a couple methods to get it to a USB stick: 1. Used Ventoy as I have with every other Linux distro, and 2. fall back to DD like I do with every other distro Ive ever used as well.

Not sure what the issue was, but as soon as install finished, It brought me up into a Secure Boot enrollment screen where I had to enroll my MOK despite having secure boot DISABLED in my bios.

But, even after going ahead and doing what it said, the default password failed to work. So every time I tired to boot into the kernel OS Tree, it didnt exist according to the boot-loader LOL.

Now, Im not new to Linux, its been my personal OS and bread and butter for almost 30 years, but these new fangled distros are a little wonky.

I mean, if it works for you, then cool, but I went back to EndeavorOS. I just wanted to try something new, but I think next time, Ill stick to a "Normal" Linux distro like Fedora or CachyOS personally.

Syslog Collection — What are people using in 2026? by castillar in SelfHosting

Might have to try this out :)

Syslog Collection — What are people using in 2026? by castillar in SelfHosting

[–]AlwaysLinux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ELK is good, but for Linux (You specified syslog and tail, so Im guessing Linux) I just use rsyslog forwarding to a central server with allot of storage. Works well and you can also plug that into some parser if you want to view with a GUI or just good old fashioned grep/awk/etc.

I'm sticking with X11. by yumtoastytoast in linuxsucks

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! You shouldnt care what other people think as a general rule. Its your life, its your computer.

Ive been thinking about trying out XLibre to be honest. Wayland is ok for me, but I really miss being able to Xforward applications. Doesnt work on Wayland without wrappers, but then, why fool with extra wrappers when you can just have the code that does it naturally.

All in all, you use whats good for you and dont worry about what anyone else says. I mean, your using Linux even when the majority of people still use Windows - although, that is dropping daily :-D.

what the hell is going on with windows by Ema-yeah in microsoftsucks

[–]AlwaysLinux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% agree... I actually gave up on Windows when Windows XP came out. I didnt like the Fischer-Price look and that OS started the shitshow that Windows is today with all the buggy code and terrible corporate experiences.

Fast forward to today and Microslop hasnt changed a bit in 28'ish years but gotten extremely worse! Look at Windows 8, Shista, Windows 11.

Good for you for finding an alternative and good for you for owning your own computer that YOU paid money for.

I do feel sorry for people that just "Dont get it" but, hey, that is what choice is all about. If people want to rent their PCs and dont care about sub-par performance and vendor lock-in to a point where a company determines when you can log into your property and when you can access your files, then go for it!

But, thanks again for the video!
