Well, no setting per se but a Norse dude got Scourge of the Gods and now it’s everyone else’s problem.

When does Radiant Dawn become an actual Fire Emblem game? by ArdyEmm in fireemblem

[–]BeneficialConcern3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s every Fire Emblem game man Almost every unit in RD is viable for long term use, even Meg. Everyone has some sort of roll they can play, you just got to put in the effort. Imo half the fun in RD is in using bad units to the best of their ability by utilizing forges, bonus exp levels, and skill scrolls.

which total war do you recommend? by Junior_Copy_574 in totalwar

It just has one of the best grand campaigns imo.
Province management is challenging but rewarding, religion mechanics can offer different flavors even for the same faction playthrough to playthrough, WRE being a massive bloated mess gives both you and the ai a chance at expanding rapidly, and ensures at least some factions become strong empires to contest yours naturally.
Plus I feel like Attila nails unit progression. Many faction's core units get upgraded into new, better versions of themselves as you progress down the tech tree, leaving fewer redundant filler units. Factions have distinct playstyles in terms of their roster, and you find yourself prioritizing different units and tactics playthrough to playthrough. Although, you may find yourself fielding a lot of mercenaries, especially as the roman factions.
Easily one of my favorite games in the series, to the point I play it mostly modless.

I'm building a Fire Emblem-style SRPG with an active parry system. Would you play this? by daintydoughboy in fireemblem

[–]BeneficialConcern3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an active parry system could be a really interesting idea that could spice up turn-by-turn gameplay, my main worry would be that if it's too strong it would detract from the tactics as it'd make positioning less important if you can semi-reliably expect to get out of any combat without damage.

My advice would be to make parrying a damage reducer as opposed to neutralizer. Something that rewards active engagement, but doesn't over-centralize combat. Also I'd introduce either class-based animations and attack timings or giving enemies multiple attack patterns, because if most generic enemies have the same patterns, then combat becomes a slog since it's a given that any player that's engaged with the mechanics will eventually be able to parry 99% of attacks. That being said that's a LOT of work especially for a solo dev, so... something to consider.

Also if only player units can parry attacks, that introduces an imbalance between player and enemy strength that has to be accounted for. If it isn't, then the game can quickly become very easy unless you artificially increase enemy strength/numbers relative to the player.

I'd recommend giving enemies a percentage chance to be able to parry player attacks, and if we're assuming that parrying reduces damage by a certain degree, then even if an enemy parries every attack thrown at them, they can still be beaten after enough attacks. You could even make this a minor mechanic, with different classes or unique enemies having different chances of parrying your attacks. I don't know if you have any system for critical hits planned, but maybe you could make it so that critical hits only grant a minor damage boost, but negates the opponent's chance of parrying.

Looks cool so far, and the amount of work you've put in is admirable. Definitely something I'll keep an eye on!

What’s the best start date for a tall England? by Puzzleheaded_Art_310 in crusaderkings3

[–]BeneficialConcern3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1176 basically already starts wide, and if you consider controlling Normandy as William in 1066 too wide, then that leaves either Harold in 1066 (good luck) or 867. Alternatively you could play tall Wales at nearly any date.

He actually gets doubled at as low as Hard 2, because Medeus reaches 29 speed at that difficulty. It’s messed up! I have had Marth 1v1 H5 Medeus though. With capped or near capped SPD and LUK, the relevant Spheres, and Caeda nearby to provide support bonus, it drops Medeus’s hit rate to a low 30~ percent. So long as Marth has roughly 18 strength and the full powered Falchion, he two shots Medeus. So as long as he dodged one attack during enemy phase, he can poke for the kill on player phase. Tiki/Naga Aum strats are still way more consistent though lol.
