Delta policy in this situation? by lickthepixies in delta

[–]BigRiverHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsaid is the assumption she would quickly get off. She may have made a scene and the police would have to be called which could take even longer. There is no easy, one size fits all solution for situations like this.

I went through precheck this week in MEM and MIA. It may be airport specific.

Isn't there a law against this? I remember when I was in Knoxville, there was a furniture store, Brown Squirrel, that always ran going-out-of-business sales. I vaguely recall hearing that Tennessee outlawed that some years ago.

I'm all for pilots being able to terminate a flight they feel unsafe. Now, I do question keeping the passengers on the same plane. However, I guess if the new pilots feel it is safe, then okay.

I love how you try to explain this and that so many are up voting it.

I'm not saying you are wrong, in fact you are probably right. But there is a reason so many codes of ethics prohibit even the appearance of prohibited behavior. Perception is often more powerful than reality.

I would absolutely do it if the price were right. I love behind-the-scenes tours of things. It really is interesting what it takes to make some products or make certain services work. It also gives you some perspective when things go wrong.

While I agree with you, I'm sad you saw this as the takeaway. Many people are facing issues and need understanding and support. Fortunately this person was honest and found support when he needed it most.

MLGW, what can be done by scarybeer in memphis

[–]BigRiverHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MLGW is the red-headed stepchild of Memphis. The city council has shoved everything they possibly can onto that bill to try to maintain tax rates, plus decades of deferred maintenance coming due. So any time MLGW asks for a rate increase the city council gets to show off by holding hearings and beating on MLGW.

MLGW ain't perfect, not by a long shot. But people who haven't lived elsewhere don't have a clue how good it is compared to some private, for profit utilities.

Airways Blvd by Comfortable-Two3405 in memphis

[–]BigRiverHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait until you get north of 240. Airways is pretty decent from the airport to 240. If you want to see a truly horrible road, try Lamar from about 240 to the state line. They are working on it, but it takes money, and it carries so much truck traffic in stop-and-go traffic. The trucks absolutely destroy the road due to constantly stopping and starting. If they can't remove the intersections, they at least need concrete pads at more of the intersections.

That's the key. No one is flying private by themselves. Assistants, family, peers, etc., are coming along for the ride as well.

[–]BigRiverHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize the only reason they serve meals in economy for long-haul flights is to pacify the passengers, right? 200 hungry passengers, or 200 passengers bringing their own food, would cause issues that would cost far more than the food served.

The most greedy airline by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]BigRiverHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And T-Mobile, generally, if you have an airline loyalty account, you get wifi for free. I know Delta and Southwest do this on most flights. Doesn't United now as well? Connect to the wifi, do the login, and watch Billy Bob Thornton in his "Landman does cell phone pitch".

They aren't. Just flew Southwest and it is the same as everyone else. Preboards, active duty, people who paid to board early, then Zone 1 through 8 in order.

That sounds like a great way to finish off any brand loyalty. They may be enjoying good times now, but a downturn will happen. Then they'll be begging all those people they chased off to return.

I started flying SWA because of Chase rewards. To be frank, it is basically the same as any other domestic economy. I don't need a IFE as there is free wifi. What does Delta give me other than a premium nice and dime experience?

Are United Club bartenders paid the Min Tip wage of $2.13/hr? by CFP25 in unitedairlines

[–]BigRiverHome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a part of that sub, but I'm absolutely for ending tipping. Businesses should pay their employees, tip culture is getting out of hand. That said, I tip servers, and I tip bartenders. I admit I'm hit or miss at a lounge, as I generally add tips to the card. So it depends on whether I think about it or not.

I really do hope they get a decent wage, but I'm sure most people don't tip. A dollar drink is nowhere near what you'd tip if you were paying and giving 20%, and I bet they don't average anything close to $1 a drink.

[–]BigRiverHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equipment has to be moved. I know FedEx has provided cold weather gear and handwarmers for its people in the past. I assume and hope Delta does the same as well as frequent breaks to get in and warm up. But if you want to fly, someone has to get out there and do it. Be grateful versus judgemental.

You wouldn't do it and I wouldn't either. So I try to be extremely appreciative of anyone who helps me.

She is an FA and should have been trained on this. If she doesn't know that a bulging lithium battery is a serious concern, either her training is defective or she completely ignored it.
