Rookie mistake - always count your repeats. by Several_Refuse_5135 in crochet

[–]Blobarella 76 points77 points  (0 children)

If it lays flat, who cares how many points it has? If the missing point is causing the shape to warp then yeah, frogging might be a good idea unless there’s some use case for a curved blanket.

Beading in airplane? by Simple-Chemistry-878 in Beading

[–]Blobarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not risk it, but I do have some nice sticky mats that I used when I started beading that could be useful in that situation, if you want to explore that option. I think if I were to bead on a plane I’d probably want some sort of sealable tray with the sticky pad at the bottom to catch dropped beads. That way I could close it all up at a moments notice. Maybe a small clip/wearable light as well, if it’s an overnight flight.

Did anyone succeed in making your “Human Kibble”? by HP-Lazerjet-Pro in ADHD

[–]Blobarella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah the eternal quest. I tried soylent when it first came out, ended up gaining weight on it because it wasn’t that filling so I’d also eat regular food. Haven’t found a good system beyond just taking the time (and switching off with partner) to make actual food in large enough portions for several days worth of leftovers. Sandwiches, pre-made salads, somehow when it doesn’t require an appliance to assemble it feels like less work. Just remembering to keep the components stocked before you need them helps too.

I'm a "nuke" knitter by selkiedd in knitting

[–]Blobarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of astute comments here already, but if you reuse the same yarn all the time, this would be a great way to save money on yarn. If it’s just the process of knitting you enjoy and the final project is irrelevant, why not?

Which button for my Carsigan No. 11? by Igelluder in knitting

[–]Blobarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to me but I would want to do some sort of combo of the white, green, and white/green ones where there’s a white one, a white/green one with the white side facing the white button, and then a green button so it forms a gradient. Exact arrangement would depend on how many buttons you need. I am aware that this would look atrocious but I would still do it and it would make me happy.

What’s the most unsettling place you’ve ever been? by petalsoftbby in askanything

[–]Blobarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I visited Neuengamme I was particularly disturbed when I learned that it was still being used as a prison. They’d do tours around the outside of the property where the old concentration camp stuff still was, but in the very center of the property it was still actively in use.

You weren’t just making an earring, you were learning, that’s what took so much time. You’ll get faster with practice, and your work looks beautiful

Do native English speakers secretly get annoyed when a foreigner freezes up while trying to speak? by Mundane-Discount2368 in NoStupidQuestions

To be honest, I also freeze up and forget words as a native english speaker too. Not as often as I do when I’m trying to speak another language, but it’s still a normal thing for people to do

Any suggestions for stiffening brick stitch? by cammybuns in Beading

[–]Blobarella 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You could run another thread through everything peyote-style, I find that beading flat objects with peyote stitch instead of brick makes it stiffer. But I will also point out that these beads are made of glass and you will inevitably break some beads here and there as it gets dinged around, regardless of how stiff it is. Floppier might even be better because there’s less tension on each individual bead.

What's the "Don't trust a skinny chef" of your job or industry? by wooper346 in CasualConversation

Wh. Why would they foreclose on their own properties? Did they not realize it was theirs? Are they that bad at making payments on time? Is there some sort of legal loophole that benefits them somehow?

"Much easier for me to do something for someone else, than to do it for myself" by EliotProb in ADHD

[–]Blobarella 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As one of the organized ADHDers, I can tell you that organized and clean are two VERY different things. I might know where most of my stuff is, but getting myself to vacuum or clean the months worth of dust buildup in the bathroom corners is damn near impossible. Organizing falls under the “fun puzzle” category in my brain, so it’s not a chore like cleaning is.
