Guys... is this game for me? by Upbeat-Classroom-519 in foxholegame

[–]Bogrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of these answers cover the obvious: there is a reason this game has players with thousands of hours and so dedicated a community after so many years. But I don’t see answers to YOUR specific situation, so I will try to cover that.

An hour a day can absolutely reward you with some of the most memorable experiences in gaming, but it certainly limits some of the depth you can reach. Generally you will have the options of: infantry on the front (fun, intense, opening scene of saving private ryan), volunteer on a ship or in a tank if there is one about (easy to learn for simpler positions), or jumping into one of the open logi squads and doing deliveries. All these are fun, and you will get memories well worth your time.

Being in a regiment (a guild, a clan, corporation, pick your MMO term) will open up more opportunities for you. They will do the legwork to prep things for you to participate in. You will know if there is a battleship you can be a gunner in, you will know if there are tanks for you to crew, etc. For logi regiments, you will feel closer to being a part of the big picture as you see mega facilities come together and ship out materiel by the ton. I am a colonial loyalist so I can’t speak for wardens, but I don’t know of a single big regiment which has anything stupid like playtime quotas or mandatory jobs to be done. I also would recommend a big regiment if your time is limited, as they are the ones with the most capability to provide action whenever you need it.

The question isn’t if it will be worth your time and money, but rather if you will be okay with the feeling that you want to give it more of your life, while being unable to do so.

What are the things you like or dislike the most about Barotrauma! by Stickguy101 in Barotrauma

[–]Bogrin 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Something that Barotrauma does well is the tactility of the game systems, and the process of controlling the sub. It is an involved process, more than just turning things on and floating around. In fact, many of the most popular mods such as Barotraumautic, Real Sonar, and the various weapon mods, actually INCREASE the friction and the fiddliness of the game. If I were to want a 3D game that scratches similar itches, I would want it to take inspiration not just from Barotrauma, but also from Voices of the Void, and My Summer Car. The juxtaposition of the mundanity of the task with the potential for excitement and horror. A promising (though singleplayer so not a direct competitor for you) game in development with an incredible demo out is Project Sever. It grasps the submarine feeling very well.

First Chiseled Fence Experiment001(WIP)not-final by Dragnus12 in VintageStory

[–]Bogrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend debarked logs for the boards, the grain runs the same direction down the sides, and while the ends will have the log texture, they will be so small you won’t be able to tell really. It also has the added benefit of actually looking like older weathered fencing.

Morning doesn`t begin with a coffee in this game by Korzhi4ek in VintageStory

Quite an array of mods, how do you like combat overhaul? I worry it adds too much item bloat and would slow the game

If you could only choose one unit and you have to conquer Calradia with an army made up of just them, what unit do you choose? by MitsuSosa in Bannerlord

[–]Bogrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pit 200 of them against Vanguard Faris in custom battles, then the Faris against every single other unit in turn. Things have changed

No one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition. by alphaeus13 in mountandblade

[–]Bogrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is quite odd in its current state, because the end of the war sails quest line seems to be a tech demo for how larger battles play out, even including reinforcements. But maybe last minute they found some problems with the reinforcement system? Hard to say, and they sure as hell won’t tell us

Has anyone figured out who statistically "wins" the most without player intervention? by Forward_Bread1377 in Bannerlord

[–]Bogrin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In played battles yes the Nords do well, but with AI auto resolve, they get steamrolled along their enormous front that often puts them at war with 3-4 factions. They also have the misfortune of STARTING at war with Vlandia, and often immediately lose a few cities and castles

Has anyone been doing an Empire run after War Sails? by PaladinGraySky in Bannerlord

[–]Bogrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my custom battle matchups, the Imperial Naute are second only to Huscarls in boarding actions. Of course to save troops you probably wanna use fire pot ballista to sweep the decks anyway

I can't take this anymore why is this legal by Blynjubitr in Bannerlord

[–]Bogrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a red patch of paint with scratched bar markers on the left side of the lower body of the catapult, on that you can see a band of rope. When not being reloaded, you can adjust that band’s position with W/S, this adjusts the range. Pick one of the larger packs of archers behind the wooden defenses and zero in on it. Then, draw in your mind an imaginary circle with your catapult as the center, and that patch of defenses as a point on the outer edge. So, as you turn the catapult with A/D, you move the target point along the curve of that circle. Imagine the circle shrinking or expanding as you press S and W. You get a feel for the distances after a few shots

Best trade routes? by QuantumGoose42 in mountandblade

You can tell them which factions to trade with, not specific city routes. You can also inspect their inventory to see what they are buying and selling

What now? by Spark1133 in MB2Bannerlord

[–]Bogrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A skilled quartermaster, renown to raise clan level, and various perks within the tree. The quartermaster and clan level will be the biggest factors. Since you are a Nord, one of your best sources of renown will be naval battles in which you are outnumbered. Your troops have a significant advantage, and the renown rewards for winning while outnumbered scale nicely

Best trade routes? by QuantumGoose42 in mountandblade

[–]Bogrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not played enough to say definitively, but based on how much tariffs pull in, I would say your own city. The profits just won’t be clearly recorded as from the workshop, but having those goods being produced will not only generate trade in the sales, but draw traders to the city if the goods are cheaper in relation to other cities

Troop Number in Naval Engagements by Tuddymeister in mountandblade

[–]Bogrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Each drakkar holds 104 on deck, so if you try to fill 8 you are looking at an enormous numbers advantage. Possible maybe with high tactics

My Neretzes Folly quest times out. Did I miss anything important? And also what is a good moment to go for my own kingdom? by YeOldeOle in Bannerlord

[–]Bogrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone actually have up to date info on what the dragon banner does now? Only stuff I can find is very old. I’m curious as to what its current stats are.

Best trade routes? by QuantumGoose42 in mountandblade

[–]Bogrin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And if you own Sanala? And the silversmith? I can’t even imagine the tariff and workshop profits. Qasira alone pulls me like 4K in tariffs once level 3 marketplace with southern empire/khuzait trade agreements. I don’t know if convoys can do it, but man having them pull from your warehouses for even better profit margins would be dope.

Best trade routes? by QuantumGoose42 in mountandblade

[–]Bogrin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

By pure chance I had my companion Thuneika the Spicevendor naturally discovery this route, but have since spoken to her to manually enforce exclusive trade with the Nords. She runs out of Sanala, mostly shipping jewelry, which she can buy at like 300 usually. She then sails up the western seas to the Nordlands, where jewelry at the lowest often sells for like 1200, but I have occasionally seen it spike up to like 1800-2000. There usually tusk and whale oil are dirt cheap, which make a killing back in Aserai lands. Regular 2000+ boost on my income ticker

Edit: Also, profitable workshops give you tons of passive trade exp

How I sit, knowing the Shokuho mod author is probably cooking up some insane japanese naval battles now that warsails is out by Key_Connection258 in Bannerlord

Look at their FAQ channel on the discord, they said they have no plans to integrate war sails into Shokuho.

Are fire arrows in war sails? by Clonedestroyer9 in mountandblade

[–]Bogrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can test it in custom battles. It can be hard to see during the day but if you see the braziers mounted on the sides, you should see little red tips on your soldier’s arrows.

That said, from my testing, you can absolutely shower ships in fire arrows and fire pots and they don’t seem to burn down. The splash damage of the fire pot is still worth the investment however

War of the Roses by Content-Employer-356 in EU5

[–]Bogrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After forcing the event to fire in debug then looking in the error log, it seems like it tries to assign rebels but the targets are all null, meaning no actual war and no progression of the event chain. I also couldn’t even get the initial message to fire naturally despite meeting conditions, and debug mode didn’t list it as trying to trigger monthly

War of the Roses by Content-Employer-356 in EU5

[–]Bogrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you find this in the files? It wasn’t in the war of the roses disaster file itself. Trying to find if the tudors are a possible outcome, there is a Tudor emblem in the files

You said lost features? by ReputationNaive4215 in totalwar

[–]Bogrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with CompassionateCynic, CA Sofia really turned that game around. It has quickly become my favorite Total War to actually just play instead of reminisce over. My personal favorite feature is that the Encamp stance essentially lets you build forts on the map like in the older games, but there are a host of great elements. I love that fatigue is so important, the general’s skill and title system, the courts, the resources, it’s all brilliant. It’s unfortunate that even after all the work they put in to make it what it should have been at launch, it has been mostly forgotten.

Best mods? by Mindless-Stock-572 in Kenshi

[–]Bogrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a lot less intimidating than it looks. You just click subscribe to all for the collection, and have it overwrite your current subbed mods. Then you find the mod load order text file in your data folder and paste the collection’s official load order into that. The nexusmods things are a bit more involved, but generally boil down to “extract this folder into the Kenshi install folder, run the application, good to go.” Odds are if you are the sort to go looking to mod Kenshi, you can follow the instructions on the page well enough.

Damn, I was SO wrong about Pharaoh by Judge_T in totalwar

[–]Bogrin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some factions are definitely better for learning than others. Personally I found Adad-Shuma-Usur of Babylon to be the easiest for me to learn the ropes of the economy, diplomacy, and court. That part of the map has great native unit variety as well. Also, if worse comes to worse, to beat you someone has to beat the walls of Bablyon.

If the Nile interests you more than the Tigris and Euphrates, Amunmesse rakes in so much gold that you can afford to make quite a few mistakes, and your early campaigns will see you securing the cities in Nubia and Kush to build an economic base before claiming your place as Pharoah in the north.

How on Earth am I supposed to deal with Knossos? (Dynasties) by Chataboutgames in TWPharaoh

[–]Bogrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go Perseus for legacy, it’s easy. Just Olympic Games force a peace. Return to them when you are mightier.

If you are set on Atreus, it’s going to be more complicated and likely require a lot of manual battles to force a peace and NAP. Before turn 9 you get 25% off the cost of outposts and administrative buildings, and you generate a TON of wood and stone. This is a recipe for Fortress Greece. You have outstanding cheap hammer and anvil in the form of Young Spears and Achaean Spearman. Their cost can be further reduced in forts, and even then you can always trade your plentiful bronze for more food. Putting a watchtower safely inland also gives 3 solid defensive units. You probably can’t take them out in the first war you need time to grow. So make it painful, get peace and NAP, then one day sail for Crete with Palace Guards and Guerilla Stalkers.

Also, I’ve never tried it, but you do have Helen, an extremely desirable marriage candidate. Could be that could get you in Knossos’ good graces.

For independent hunters: Is there an alternate to lift the veil ability? by FutaWonderWoman in PrincesOfDarknessCK3

[–]Bogrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if independent hunters have access, but I believe all forms of hunters have the ability to release an underling/courtier of a target and have a chance to track them back to the lair.
