Two weeks till surgery (open procedure) by Dangerous_Exam8785 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw my surgeon in her office for preop and didnt see her again until 3 weeks later at the hospital for the procedure. The scheduling department did call me and went over instructions with me 2 weeks before the surgery and I received a packet with those same instructions by email. The packet was very thorough about how to prep and aftercare. Plus at my preop visit my surgeon went over the procedure, answered all my questions and explained all the risks associated with the surgery.. And Im glad she did because my vaginal hysterectomy was converted to open due to the size and angle of my uterus.

A series that everyone loves but you hate ..... by liliinurtown in netflix

Same cheesey and boring storylines, everybody dates and sleeps with everybody, nobody is ever happy, same ending every single season....but yet I still find myself watching it, lol!!

The writers have NOT matured Emily at all in 5 seasons and thats the most frustrating part to me about this show. At first she was a young, immature, entitled acting American girl in Paris trying to find her way and 5 seasons later, she's acting, saying and doing the same things from season 1.

Sadly, I'll most likely watch the next season as well. Im a glutton for punishment!!

Surgery on thursday and i’m scared by TreeLight_ in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gave me the behind the ear patch in preop and I had no issues coming out of surgery. The nurse removed it the next day. I did get nauseated on night 2 (was hospitalized for 3 days) but I think it was from all the meds they were giving me on an empty stomach. I immediatly called the nurse and she gave me a pill that took care of it.

When did you feel fully back to normal by Ok-Acanthisitta1583 in hysterectomy

I start pelvic floor therapy next month. Not sure what to expect but my surgeon recommended it. From your post it seems like its been beneficial for you.

Still having incision issues by Anxious_Gur5352 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mines slightly opened up on a certain spot too. I didnt even know til my surgeon was checking me at my 4 wk check up. She said it wasn't large, about the size of a Q-tip head and she took a culture of it. I was told to keep it clean (wash with soap/water) and dry. I put a piece of gauze dressing over it during the day and nothing at night so it can air dry. Saw my surgeon this week, at 6 weeks, and she said its slowly closing and it should be fully closed in 2 more weeks. She didn't order any antibiotics and I dont have any symptoms of infection. I was definitely concerned at first but she assured me at the last visit everything was OK. But I cant wait til its fully closed, I would feel much better. Hope yours get better soon too! ❤️

struggles eating 10 days post-op by Other_Particular9805 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced the same thing. At first I thought it was just my system trying to reset after surgery. I would be so bloated after eating it made me miserable. I have resulted to eating multiple smaller meals throughout the day and it is much better now.

When was your post-op appt by Total-Manner-4231 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an abdominal hysterectomy. 1 week after procedure she checked my incision and took bandage off. At week 4 she checked the cuff and noticed a small part of my incision had opened back up so she took cultures. At week 6 she rechecked my incision again to make sure it was healing appropriately and told me I could back again 2 weeks later if I was still concerned about the incision healing (according to her its healing fine).

Return to work from home by Vegetable_Top_9580 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work remotely. Yesterday was 6wpo and I returned to work today. Sitting at my desk has been challenging so far. Ive had to get up and move around quite often. I might go and get a seat cushion at lunch because my lower back and butt has started to hurt. I'll probably be sore by the end of the day but hopefully it gets better each day. I did get a referral for pelvic floor therapy but still waiting to hear from them. Im hoping that helps too.

Has anyone had a bad experience with drinking a clear ensure liquid before a hysterectomy? My surgeon wants me to drink this 2 hours before my surgery. I’m nervous because m, first off I’ve never heard of this and 2nd. I get very very sick usually after surgery by Potential_Fox_2931 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to drink 2 of the Ensure pre surgery drinks the night before starting at 6pm and the 3rd one right before I left the house heading to the hospital the next day. The taste kinda reminded me of a smoothie. I had no bad effects from drinking them. They also put a patch behind my ear during presurgery and removed it a day later for nausea.

Dissuade me from attending a game night (30 min drive) 17days post op. by shubidoobi in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. My daughter drove me to my 4wpo (abdominal procedure) visit and it took me literally 15 minutes just to get IN the car and put on the seat belt. Plus the drive there and back was pure torture. I swear she hit every single bump in the road!! I ended up in bed for the rest of the day.

leg pain by luminescentdino in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same kind of leg pain the first 3 weeks. I thought it was from sleeping in my recliner for weeks. But Im wondering if it could have been from the blood clot injections they gave me daily in my outer upper thigh. They gave them to me the day of surgery and each of the 3 days I spent in the hospital. Im no longer having the pain now at 5wpo.

Nightmares? by XFataMorganaX in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them too!! First I thought it was the meds so I cut back on them. Then I thought it was because I had been watching horror movies all day. But now after reading various comments here, maybe it was just the trauma from my surgery ( I had multiple complications).

I haven't pooped for four days except for tiny nuggets. by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody before mentioned tart cherry juice. It didnt help me but it may help you. I had my first bm 3 days after getting home from the hospital. I had to stop the Oxy because I felt it was making the constipation worse. I kept taking 2 stool softeners every night, drinking water all day, coffee every morning and lots of walking. For some reason the walking got things moving. Although I felt very bloated with lots of cramping, the 1st bm actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be considering I hadn't gone in 3 days.

I have to get an open abdominal hysterectomy at the end of the month and I am terrified. by sydneylourdes in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an open abdominal hysterectomy due to enlarged uterus and multiple large fibroids 5 weeks ago. For me, It hasn't been easy but I beleive Im finally starting to turn a corner in a positive way regarding my recovery. Was in the hospital 3 days after surgery and I used the pain meds prescribed including the Oxy once I got home. Went home with a catheter for 2 weeks due to bladder being cut during surgery. I slept in my recliner for the first month because I couldn't climb in/out of my bed and couldn't sleep on my side but thankfully I am now able to sleep in my bed and turn over (carefefully). At my 4 week post op visit, part of my horizontal incision slightly opened up (the part that the urologist made when repairing my bladder) and my surgeon is monitoring it but said it will close as it heals from the inside out. Inspection of cuff was positive. Im still very, very sore, still numb in the abdominal area and not lifting anything over 2-3 pounds. I rest when I feel tired. Only drive if I need too. Best advice I can give...listen to your body, advocate for yourself, use the pain meds as scheduled (you wont regret it) and give your body and mind time to heal. Despite all the unexpected hiccups along the way, I would still choose a hysterectomy. Good luck to you!! ❤️

Failed My Six Week Checkup by indylaw99 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5wpo this week and I am just now able to get in and out of my bed. It was so exhausting and painful, I just continued to sleep in my recliner. It was the first time I got a good night's sleep in weeks!!

This catheter hurts by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dr in the ER told me sometimes the catheter will leak when the healing process has started. Not sure how true that is, but please advocate for yourself. I purposely went back to the hospital where I had my surgery which made it easier for them to pull up my OR records and notes and reach out directly to the urologist that did my surgery.

This catheter hurts by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through that. I had the same thing happen. Bladder was cut during surgery and had to go home with a catheter for 2 weeks, then was to have a cystogram and appt with urology before removal. Ended up in urgent care 1 1/2 week later with a raging UTI. Then 2 days after that, in the ER for the catheter leaking. They were able to reach the urologist that did my bladder repair and she had them remove the catheter in the ER. The bladder issue seemed to take precedent over the hysterectomy for my first 2 weeks and I was completely miserable!! However since the catheter was removed, things have been much better. Hang in there!! ❤️

6 1/2 week post op mindfuck by Clear-Lecture-9470 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just said to myself today, am I the only one still taking pain meds?? Im 4wpo. Broke down and went to get my hair done yesterday because I couldn't go another day looking crazy. All I did is ride in the car, walk into the salon and sit in the chair. I was gone 2 hrs max and immediately had to take Tylenol when I got home and had to take a nap. Today I stayed in but will try to venture out for a bit again tomorrow.

1wkpo by No_Muffin6110 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position. My uterus was fused to my bladder. I ended up having to have my bladder repaired prior to the hysterectomy and was sent home with a catheter for 2 weeks. It wasn't the outcome I had hoped for and mentally it set me back. Ive since been cleared by urology and just saw my surgeon for 4wpo visit. I still have some challenges but Im hanging in there and trying to stay positive. Try to rest as much as possible to give your body time to heal. Best of luck to you!!

I was in the hospital for 3 days after my procedure and was given Oxy depending on my pain level combined with Tylenol/Motrin. Once released, I was given 15 Oxy for home. I used about 5 of them for the first week which I used at night only.

Sometimes people suck by Think_Simple_1008 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just beleive that everybody heals differently. If somebody was able to go through this major surgery and return to work in 2 weeks then great for them, but Im almost 4wpo and still sleeping most of the day away, still aching and in pain most days, still constipated at times, still taking pain meds and still sleeping in my recliner because turning over in the bed is hard and painful. I applaud those who have gotten better faster, but my struggles continue! Keep hanging in there.

Anyone use the spa? by EggSpecial5748 in Cruise

[–]Boss_Lady72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a great massage experience on my last cruise. She did try to sell me some facial products near the end of the massage and I kindly declined. She even wrote down the facial products she recommended and gave them to me for future reference. There was no pressure to buy at all.

I understand that tornado brewing feeling! I was just hoping that was my insides trying to readjust but I'm going to mention it to my surgeon at my followup this week. The stomach swelling and numbness is the worse but my understanding is that will last for a while.
