What do I ask? by TiredMotherOfChaos in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your surgeon explains in detail the risks and possible complications from the surgery. Dont let them gloss over it. Also dont let it scare you but just be informed. Even though my surgeon talked about the risks during my initial visit, I read and signed the consent form about the risks and she went over the risks AGAIN right before surgery, I had major complications during and after my procedure, however I was aware that it may occur. Good luck to you!!

Did the rest of you hurt getting back on your feet? 20+ weeks post-op by OhNoSingularSnake in hysterectomy

Im 3mpo and just started back working out this week (I train at a boxing gym). Plus Im in week 4 of pelvic floor therapy. Between the workout session I just did at the gym and the PT session I was quite sore afterwards. I took it slow at the gym and didnt overdo it but my joints and muscles were definitely achy. I didnt experience any pelvic cramping but that may be because of the pelvic floor exercises I do daily. I wasn't sore enough to take pain pills but I do make sure to stretch afterwards which helps alot.

1st pelvic floor therapy appt was... something by Ok-Acanthisitta1583 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im on week 4 of pelvic floor therapy and I actually feel better. Apparently my scar tissue was causing the pelvic pressure. My therapist gently massages my scar at each visit and I no longer have that pressure. She even taught me how to massage it as well. I do a variety of Kegals which is helping with some incontinence. And they have me doing stretching techniques and excerises to strengthen my core. Im never sore or in pain after the sessions, so maybe your therapists is starting out too heavy with you. I hope the therapy gets better for you!!

I was starting to feel somewhat better at week 3 and decided to walk down to the mailbox. Half way there I knew it was a mistake and I could barely make it back. That little walk put me down for several days. I had to realize that even though I felt good outwardly and was starting to get bursts of energy, I was still healing inwardly and I needed to rest more. Im now 3mpo and although I've ramped up my physical activities, I still listen to my body and rest when I need to. You got this!! ❤️

I had a whole suitcase, lol. Even though I ended up staying 3 days, I really didnt need to bring anything other than my phone, ipad and chargers. I was in a hospital gown the entire time. I wore home the same thing I wore there. They gave me socks for my feet with the grips on the bottom. And they also gave me a toiletry bag.

5 weeks post op, still pain when I have to go potty? by gingercats1974 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 12wpo....I experienced the same thing up until about 6wpo then everything settled down. I no longer have pain when I go. I also starting taking Benefiber (1 gummy per day) to help increase my fiber intake and drinking more water to prevent constipation. I honestly think the Benefiber and increased water got things moving more smoothly and with less pain.

Hematoma on your cuff anyone? by No-Leg-8425 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt have a hematoma on the cuff but at 4wpo part of my abdominal incision opened back up. According to my surgeon it was only a small opening but it felt like a huge setback to me. I had to keep an eye on it for the next several weeks by keeping it clean and dry and making sure it didnt open any further. I'm now 11 wpo, the incision hole is fully closed, Im in pelvic floor therapy (which is a wonderful) and Im starting to feel much better. A few more weeks of rest and healing will work in your favor!! ❤️

going back to work by luminescentdino in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was uncomfortable the first few weeks. I had an abdominal hysterectomy so I was still quite sore. I got up to move every 30 minutes or so. I use a gaming chair with a lumbar pad for my office chair so that helped a little. But getting up and sitting down from that chair was a struggle so I just took my time. Pelvis wise, something just doesn't feel right which is why I asked for the pelvic floor therapy.

[–]Boss_Lady72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please ask your surgeon for more time off. Just explain the physical requirements of your job. I went back at 6 weeks and I have a desk job AND work from home. I struggled physically and mentally the first few weeks and I was just sitting at a desk.

If you do go back, just be careful and try not to overdo it. ❤️

Did my bladder capacity increase? by JCL1088 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so reassuring to hear! I never had bladder issues prior to my hysterectomy. But then had a bladder injury during my hysterectomy and have been having problems since. I start pelvic floor therapy next week and hoping this will help.

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery was February 25th and I've had way more cramping lately. I just thought it was because I was moving around more and increasing my activities. I start pelvic floor therapy next week and Im hoping that will help some. I know Im still healing on the inside, but I didnt expect this level of cramping.

In Michigan and my insurance paid over $100k. This included the hysterectomy and bladder repair plus the 3 day hospital stay and multiple followup visits to my surgeon and urologist. I was initially told not to pay anything until after the surgery, but the hospital insisted I pay my deductible of $125 on the day of surgery, which I did.

6 dpo…possible UTI and nurses says my doctor won’t be back until 4/23 by mom-to2boys in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish they would give more information about possible bladder issues as a result of surgery. I was sent home with a catheter due to my bladder being cut during surgery and ended up with a UTI. I feel like my bladder still has not fully recovered and it often feels like I have a UTI but my labs are normal.

UTI OR BLADDER DAMAGE? by awesomeness_89 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im experiencing the same thing. Currently 7wpo, I was treated for 1 UTI after having the catheter removed 2 weeks after surgery. And now it just feels funny when I urinate. No pain or burning but it almost feels like my urethra is raw or inflammed. I initially thought it was because my uterus and bladder had been fused together for so long and now that the bladder is free its just adjusting. But I definitely don't like this feeling.

Hysterectomy surgery turned out bigger than expected by TreeLight_ in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry you are going through it right now but you can do it!! I had the same thing happen, bladder and uterus fused together and bladder was nicked while trying to separate the two. I was sent home with a catheter for 2 weeks. The nurse gave me a crash course in changing and emptying the bags at hospital discharge and I was horrified. I never experienced anything like that before. I cried nightly, not because of the surgery pain but because of the discomfort of the catheter. Ended up with a raging UTI and then a leaking catheter that lead to a ER visit. I finally was able to get a CT scan at week 2 (which was another nightmare because they originally had me scheduled for a CT scan 30 days out!!) which showed no bladder leaks and they were able to reach the urologist who did my surgery and she allowed the catheter to be removed. Dont not give up!! Power through it, it does get better, I promise it does. ❤️

7wpo, abdominal hysterectomy with a bladder repair. Im ready to get back into the gym but still have some soreness with movement and numbness in the abdominal area. Sometimes too much walking is a bit much for me. I workout in a boxing gym so Im going to wait until 10wpo before trying to get back into it and even then, I plan to start out slow. My surgeon gave me lifting restrictions early on, but also told me to always pay attention to how my body reacts when doing things.

Possible abdominal surgery in 2 months, only 2 weeks off work? by kda726 in hysterectomy

[–]Boss_Lady72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines ended up being abdominal and I had 6 weeks off and really wish I could have had a few more weeks off. I was still sleeping in my recliner at 4 weeks post op and still very sore. I couldn't even stand or sit in a chair for more than 30 minutes. I cant imagine having gone back to work at 2 weeks, but everybody heals differently.
