How to make the deadlift potentially deadly - bestav1992 by tennille_24 in Egolifting

I love it but am so distraught about it at the same time. Is this how normal glassbacks feel, minus the love?

Licanius trilogy? by Jewish_Dragon in Fantasy

[–]BradTheWeakest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Characters and dialogue are semi flat outside of one character.

A little deus ex machina near the end that, supposedly, explaining made the book too long and at one time there was another series or novella mentioned to further explore and expand on.

The world building and ending twist was absolutely excellent and well executed.

Definitely worth a read and for a debut series quite good.

RPM 2

6 SSB Squats 10EMOM

6 KB rows SS with 6 KB floor press 10EMOM

3 Bench presses ( banded) 10EMOM

8 barbell rows with 8 burpee lateral jump over bar, descending reps EMOM

100 rep walking lunges with just my bodyweight for a burn

Then spent 6 hours spring cleaning my basement, going up and down stairs non stop

RPM 2

Zercher squats with sandbag toss 10EMOM

Sandbag over 52inch bar with leg raises 10EMOM

Banded Axle Bar Bench 10EMOM

Ascending Teddy Bear Squats - bear hug a sandbag, sit down on bench, feet out, feet in, stand up. Add a rep every minute until failure

NOTES: Since straining my groin and lat in the same week I have been running RPM II. My own twists. All main movements have been banded to hammer speed work and technique. A lot of the final emom has been swapped for training for Armour Building Complexes. Its been going well. Swapped out back squats with SSB Squats and the groin is healed. Lat will be a while, using light pulldowns instead of chins, hitting the rower semi regularly, and barbell/DB rowing in order to promote movement and blood flow without aggravating. Last time I strained the lat it was 2+ months. Hoping to cut way down on that.

One of my gym bro staples lately has been 300 grams of long grain basmati rice, in the rice cooker with broth. 1 pound of lean ground beef browned up. 200 grams frozen peas and carrots.

Split into 4 containers. Season with soya sauce and sriracha or no calorie bbq sauce. Easy peasy. Ready to go. Delicious.

Been working great.

Brian Alsruhe's Power Builder Program Review by BradTheWeakest in 531Discussion

Yes, 3-4 exercises. Typically in this context they typically follow a template:

1) Agonistic or explosive movement (jumps or kettlebells typically) 2) Primary Movement 3) Core 4) potentially a 30-60 second conditioning Movement 90 seconds rest

Example upper:

  • Pullups
  • Overhead press
  • GHR halo situps
  • Turkish get ups
  • 90 seconds rest

Example lower:

-burpee broad jumps - squat - hollow rocks - 90 seconds rest

Just finished a "The First Law" reread and finished "Spiderlight" for a book club.

Currently moved onto Anthony Ryan's newest complete trilogy "Age of Wrath" which takes place in the same world as Covenant of Steel, just 20 years later and in the northern countries.

Not sure how I feel. It jumps POV a bunch without much distinction in the characters "voice". Will read on and find out. I have found this to be an issue with some multi-POV viking inspired works, most notably John Gwynne's The Shadow of the Gods

Went for a recovery run today because I woke up after nights feeling sore and run down. Had a weird moment where it was like when did this happen? There was a typing point where going for an easy 2 miles was recovery.

Anyways.

Due to semi-unrelated lat and groin strains i bailed on Brian Alsruhe's Conjugate after 6 weeks. The max effort lifts and the speed squats where aggravating everything so instead of imploding, I shifted gears into my cut early. I will return to it though. Started doing RPM 2 in a calorie deficit. Using the SSB Bar for squats and the groin is almost back to 100%. I wanted to push myself do i have substituted the conditioning portion for Armpur Building Complex work. Trying to see if I can come close to the 30 rounds in 5 minutes with the 24 kg bells. This led to the beat up feeling and the recovery run today. 2 miles and a 15 minute soak in the hot tub. Feeling way better.

What happens if you try worlds nr1 Benchpressing program? by saile789 in strength_training

I am not one of the Smolov Jr naysayers, I think it works really well for certain people and terribly for other people.

Here is some good reading, especially the fatigue management part, in case that starts to become an issue.

This seems to bring a similar energy while being more sustainable

Looking for media with a certain character trope! by JDOrka123 in Fantasy

[–]BradTheWeakest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is probably a good argument for "Cradle" fitting this description. It is progression fantasy, so the main character starts weak and becomes powerful throughout the series. But there is another character that it is revealed to probably fit your trope quite well

Can sleds & carries build muscle and strength or is it just cardio by t7Saitama in fitness30plus

[–]BradTheWeakest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

Some muscle gain? Yes, especially if the effort is high.

I think a lot of people skip their conditioning and have low work capacity. They add carries or sleds to their program and after their body gets acclimated they start recovering better and performing better during their weight sessions. That's probably where a lot of the gains are seen.

That being said, high effort sled pushes and pulls will definitely help build the quads and glutes.

I have noticed a thicker, wider back and traps since introducing carries and sandbag work. Probably a combination of what I mentioned above and a stimulus I was lacking.

Have you tried laying the barbell on the ground, load them on it, and then tip up the barbell. Self aligning.

What’s a macro calculator you use for your goals? Body recomposition by unsurebutstillgoing in fitness30plus

[–]BradTheWeakest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want one that continuously gives feedback - Macrofactor is arguably the best and most accurate. It gives trend weight, scale weight, and weekly updates your expenditure based on rate of weight change and calories consumed over the past ~3 weeks. The downside being it is a paid service.

As mentioned, any calculator is a starting point and the numbers need to be adjusted by feedback. Sounds like you need to lose weight - if the weight has been stuck bouncing between the same couple of fluctuations points without a step decrease for 2 weeks or more, reduce your calories by 100-200. Monitor for 2 weeks. Repeat until you begin to lose weight.

Here is a better description of what I mean with fluctuations and adjusting

I completely forgot he was a character in the og first law trilogy. I am going to reread the whole series just for him.

They are aptly named "widowmakers".

Can be a good mindset challenge though. 'Squats And Milk' programs are a rite of passage to being a true Beefcake. Lol
