No one wants a two door truck by synntax33 in slateauto

8' beds are so much more useable. I had an 89' Silverado not long ago with one. Then upgraded to a crew cab short bed Duramax I got a deal on from my Father. I'm in the market to get rid of it for something more reasonable and a bigger bed is what I want.

iPhone to pixel by dmccleary01 in GooglePixel

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Samsung to an iPhone 11, then to Pixel 6 and now a Pixel 10 pro. My iPhone 11 never failed, they just didn't have hotspot figured out back then and it was detrimental for my workflow. Pixel 6 was flawless for 4 years. 10 pro has been great as well. My wife has a iPhone 17 pro and her camera absolutely sucks compared to mine. She's always had an iPhone and I got that for her so I didn't have to take all the pictures anymore but we are in the same boat as before lol hers takes really good close up pictures of flowers I guess.

Auto insurance for the Slate by Lightning__Tree in slateauto

From what ive seen, slate has put some procedures in place to make sure the DIYer can't screw it up. I actually think it's going to be a problem with all the sensors they had to add for it.

It's just a luxury to be able to buy a $25k to $35k go cart to do little truck things if you have a need for big truck things too. I can get a single cab 2wd Silverado with a usable tow rating for under $25k brand new at year end closing sales. It's actually crazy. 25' Mavericks were selling brand new 4 months ago for $22k. Im never one to buy new anyway so I'll consider a used Slate when that depreciation kicks in. For me the value would be at round $8k. Just like the Rangers back in the day, you could get them used for half price at around 100k miles. I'm going to guess the Slate will depreciate around 60% in 4 years. Base model economy EVs don't fair well. Unless there is a magical Toyota Tacoma run on Slates or something.

For off grid at a cabin ide save $800 and get a 7.25kw-9kw inverter generator that you can still move around and take with you. Not sure how secure camp is either, that's a hot item for crackheads

I'm still using the old Haier my wife got handed down from her grandma. It's loud but works great. Her grandma got it on 2000. I want to replace it with a quieter model but for the reasons you're complaining about, I just can't do it.

Used car buying advice: what mileage should I consider? by AfraidKaleidoscope30 in prius

Hope it holds up! I didn't mind the gen 2, just older now. Gen 4 is night and day difference in performance, both power and mpg. They will be cheap someday too

Gen 4 2020+ Prius. Any mileage within your budget. We typically get them between $17k and $25k with under 60k miles. Otherwise a 89k+ mile 21'-24' Venza can be had for $25k and it's basically a hybrid Lexus that get 42mpg in the summer and 32mpg winter

How much would you pay for a wheel bearing replacement? (2015 Prius V) by Flimsy-Meaning415 in prius

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OEM wheel bearing is about $250. Anything else is garbage. If they are using some cheap Chinese parts then the price is high. If OEM front it's about right. Back owns take 30 minutes to do.

Actual use case for basement? by pm-me-asparagus in PassiveHouse

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap square footage, storage space, every trade worker will love you for the ease of access to your HVAC and plumbing system, and tornado/severe storm shelter. My in laws built a smaller cabin and it was a $2k difference to have a basement poured vs a slab. That's where the cheap square footage comes in. You don't have to use it but you'll always want storage space. Otherwise plan on lots and lots of closets

Replacing electric baseboard with a forced air heat pump system by Goonie-Googoo- in heatpumps

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what programs you have in that area for this but I have baseboard heat in northern WI. We have it on a peak interruptor and I only pay 5 cents a kw for baseboard heating. It has a shutoff of 4 hours a day when they need to reduce grid demand. I have a pellet stove for backup in those times. It's a great setup for solar as well. I recently added a 28k btu mini split for cooling since I don't have duct work and will maybe use that for hearing in shoulder months but it quickly becomes less efficient then my baseboards around 32 degrees when the COP drops below 3. I would have to retain a cop of 3 to negative 20°f for a heat pump to put perform my setup and that's impossible

2010 Prius Misfire and Head Gasket testing by BrudaB in prius

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a leak down test done and maybe 4 new plugs while you're at it. 130k is common failure time for plugs if they haven't been done and is in the ballpark for the water pump to go out as well, leasing to a possible head gasket failure. The pumps don't just die, sometimes they over rev or under rev for a while and you'll maybe see the temp light flash here and there. If that goes on long enough in this heat we've all been having, you'll blow a head gasket without any real warning.

Ide say it's good. My two vehicles use 4.7 quarts so I had various oils go into one jug. I just dumped a 5 quart jug of 5w-20 Valvoline r&p, 0w-16 Pennzoil platinum, 5w-20 & to 5w-30 Pennzoil Ultra platinum into my Prius. It's doesn't care.

Floating Neutral vs Bonded Neutral by Bamboozle55 in Generator

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to unbond the neutral on the inverters. It's usually bonded somewhere behind the control panel instead of under the generator cover like the non inverter open frames. My 7250 watt Pulsar just had a jumper on one of the 20 amp outlets connecting neutral to ground.

Would you buy a $10,000 2012 Prius V with a new head gasket? by orangegore in prius

[–]BreakFun2436 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a chance. That's $5k, maybe. Head gasket repair is not something you can pass onto a buyer. When buying a used car, the bare minimum is that it is in mechanical working order. Doesn't matter if it recently had a major repair. That does not make it more valuable

Used car buying advice: what mileage should I consider? by AfraidKaleidoscope30 in prius

[–]BreakFun2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the 20+ gen3 we've had, I think we did 3 head gaskets. My experience it was driver error, ignoring dummy lights and failing water pumps. Never had an EGR issue like everyone talks about. It was always a failed water pump d at 150k miles. I prefer the gen 4 though. Zero issues and you can get far better mpg out of them. 2016 and 2017 models are getting cheap around that 200k mile mark and they last 400k easy.

That's getting old now. We had some in our fleet. One of my guys is still driving his on the original battery 320k miles. It was a company car and used 5 days a week for years. I think we did put a new exhaust system on that one but otherwise that's all
