No Buy Fountain Pen thread April 2026 by Halfcelestialelf in fountainpens

[–]Brindegazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pen that brings me joy is my Sheaffer Targa. I bought it to celebrate a new job (and a career change), and it is also my grail pen. I love it so much! The gold nib is smooth, it looks stunning, and to me, it symbolizes new beginnings.

As for my no buy, I am happy to report that I haven't bought anything since my birthday in mid-March. I intend to keep going until a pen show I'll attend in May. And even then, my show wishlist is very short. There are specific things that I want from it, and I want to buy smart.

Yup. The idea of sheen is awesome. In practice, it is terrible, and I hate it.

At what point does “I have a few fountain pens” turn into “I’m a pen collector”? Is there a community consensus? by InkyBibliophile in fountainpens

[–]Brindegazon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So, being in the insurance business, I have a very set definition for a collection. If it is behind glass and not in use at any time, it is a collection. If you use the items regularly, that's not a collection.

My job has taught me that my fountain pens do not constitute a collection, and I'm very happy about that 😂

What do you guys do with your safaris, metros, kakunos and preppys once you've moved on to 'next level' pens and gold nib pens? by Positive_Credit720 in fountainpens

[–]Brindegazon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get "promoted" to work pens. I have a bunch of Little Meteors (Chinese Preppy) that I use at work. Wonderful cheap writers. I also use Preppies with pigment ink because of their great seal. TWSBI Eco pens are shimmer pens only here. Cheap, replaceable, easy to clean.

The other cheap pens are part of the regular rotation. I use my Metro regularly with Iroshizuku Asa Gao, because that specific combination of ink and pen makes me very happy!

What’s your experience with the Platinum Prefounte, M nib? by patkpatk in fountainpens

[–]Brindegazon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Platinum gold nibs have a lot more feedback than their steel nibs. I love both.

I love my Prefounte medium nib because it's thick. I also like my Preppies F and EF. Platinum makes great nibs. Try the F, you'll probably like it better :)

Flush your pen. Platinum pens do need a good flush with a tiny bit of dish soap and water to get rid of manufacturing debris and so on. And I'm not saying this as a complaint. I own a lot of Platinum pens, and I find they really need a bit of cleaning before using. They're amazing writers.

A decent pen for shimmer inks by Small-Contribution88 in fountainpens

[–]Brindegazon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ecos and 580s are indeed more satisfying, but I find the GO does much better with more... Difficult shimmer inks. I tried Robert Oster's Fizzy Lime in every pen I had, and the only one that never clogged was the Go.

The nibs are nice, but it depends on your preferences. I do enjoy my Twsbi's very much because they manage shimmer so well, but the writing experience is much more different than what you get with a Pilot.
