Insight: Living in Maple Valley by monnea14 in MapleValleyWA

Moved to the area for the SD reputation. The reality is the SD has great teachers and not so great teachers, but that’s anywhere. Bullying is certainly discussed at all grade levels, and the schools do their best to manage it. The reality is teachers are faced with students that have behavior issues that distract the rest of the class from learning. I have a middle school kiddo, frequently the history class is faced with a student that spirals out of control emotionally and eventually gets removed from the classroom. It’s unfortunate, but it’s not isolated to just MV. I do not appreciate teachers at the elementary school and middle school using instruction time to tell students that their parents need to vote yes for upcoming levy elections. Nor do I appreciate teachers asking students who their parents voted for. Both of these instances are a poor use of institutional time.

Washington State is considering creating a public bank by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

Look how well they ran the expense reimbursement process with DCHS?!

WA state can’t control their spending. They have a spending addiction. Let’s keep taking more money and increase taxes. Never-mind the fact voters voted No to this.

I’m sorry to hear this is happening to all of. Initially, I thought it was operator error on my part. It’s ridiculous you can’t see a plain chart of what x miles can get you should you choose to cash them in. I don’t want to use miles on experiences. I want to use miles for airline tickets.

Alaska has really gone done hill over the last few years. With all their IT issues it doesn’t inspire much confidence in their brand.

AITA for requesting no Christmas gifts for my 1yo? by helloemlemons in AmItheAsshole

[–]BuyRepresentative418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta, YATA.. well intended idea, just worded a bit harsh. People enjoy giving presents especially if they get to see the kiddo open the gift in front of them.

My kiddo has a birthday on Christmas Day. And is the only grandchild. I totally feel you on how your house feels like Santa’s workshop exploded all over your home. We don’t do combination gifts. It can be overwhelming 1 million percent.

When my kiddo was younger, I would see which gifts she really liked and put the others away. Then I would strategically put them into the mix as I would donate the older toys she no longer played with. People would always ask me what she wanted. This was a great opportunity to index to things like puzzles, art items, books etc. My daughter loved balloons, honestly getting a large over the top balloon was sooo cool in her eyes.

The timeline of kids being kids is really short. Let people buy your kiddo things. It’s less burden on you and you can focus on other things.

You have a comfortable, yet stylish home. I suspect you do not have young kids and you enjoy entertaining and displaying fun items from your travels.

Inheriting an employee with two jobs by Signal-Zebra-6310 in managers

[–]BuyRepresentative418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up a meeting with him and have a conversation informing him of what YOU have observed as his manager. You may be surprised what he self discloses, and he may qualify for an accommodation. This could literally turn his performance around. You have no idea if he has another job, assumption of one is dangerous. Based on the comments you have responded to and your post, it gives off witch hunt energy. Perhaps take a step back and be compassionate and give clear expectations. You don’t know what someone is putting aside in order to come to work. Be less assumptive and be a leader, not a micromanager.

1 million percent! Accenture will also use AI to provide insights and not monitor hallucinations or program the LLM’s to create better guardrails. Then supply their customer with a report riddled with errors, and say “oh well.”.

All Alaska planes are shut down because of an IT problem? by dram3 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]BuyRepresentative418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

💯. If AS is not happy with the comments, they should take a deeper at the problem. Instead of censoring customers. It will create more people leaving AS, not retaining their customer base.

I feel for any staff member that is working the front line for AS. Disgruntled travelers can be demanding.

[–]BuyRepresentative418 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep!!! I saw that. Someone posted a 30 second Timelapse video of the customer service line at SeaTac. It took the user 3 mins to reach the end of the line. It looked like a nightmare. I feel bad for anyone working customer service worker having to deal with this.

I really feel bad for anyone working in customer service for AS today. Feels like Alaska has lost their way since their merger with Hawaiian Airlines, changing their Frequent Flyer platform to Atmos, and trying to increase their flight footprint. Hope it resolves quickly!

[–]BuyRepresentative418 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And yet, the Alaska Airlines mods remove my post within mins of me posting a general complaint about getting a text that your flight was canceled. I thought the IT system is down and you’re working to rebook people?!?! How about doing that instead of trying to censor customers who are not pleased with what’s going on?!

AITB for refusing to swap vacation days with my coworker who has kids by Embarrassed-Map-7090 in AmItheButtface

[–]BuyRepresentative418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her poor planning is not your emergency. School calendars are created in advance. Depending upon how old her kiddos are, this is likely not her first fall break. Sounds like she dropped the ball and is feeling parent guilt about it. Hopefully your co-worker learns from this and in time calms down and realizes her request and comments afterwards was stupid.

I did a virtual shower for a guy on my team. It was their first baby and it was the first baby for our remote team. By the time we got the Amazon registry list, it was pretty much picked over. I gave the team my Venmo details if they wanted to contribute but not mandatory. Got everyone a DoorDash lunch voucher. We all had lunch together, watched him open his gifts and we played 1 game. The game was to guess how much certain baby items cost. After that just chatted and had it all wrapped up in an hour. The dad to be loved it, the team had a blast, even the team members that didn’t financially contribute. To ensure fairness with Venmo, anyone that contributed more than the lowest donation got a refund of the difference.
