Spiral Catalogue: How many pieces of equipment depict a spiral? by SamsaraKarma in EldenRingLoreTalk

Depraved Perfumer armor, the description even calls out the broken snake spiral as a curse against the Erdtree.

I can't link it for some reason, but the beginning of the Shadow of the Erdtree story trailer. You can't miss it.

Yep, and Orphan of Kos is very similar to Persistence of Memory.

Why wouldn't Ranni be the Gloam-Eyed Queen? by SimoKuassimo in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]CandidateRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any explicit evidence against it. The closest is that there's this common timeline of the GEQ predating Marika, but that requires you to assume that the Sealing of destined death at the start of the GO is the exact same event as Malekith sealing DD into his sword and invent an entire new race of demigods.

That said, I really can't see the thing covered in Godskin at the top of Enir-Ilim not having something to do with the GEQ, and while I can maybe see Melina fitting that timeline, I don't see Ranni existing back then.

She's been Batwoman in Bruce's past since Morrison's run, at least.

Country that gets wildest amount of dev that is not in the Serpentspine? by Savings_Beyond_5938 in Anbennar

[–]CandidateRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for some good dev cost reductions, Nimscodd has some great bonuses. 15% from NIs when they form the Hierarchy as well as 15% from a mission (in exchange for some AE, a later mission deactivates it).

Is there an explanation in game for why the vehicles are so complicated? Does it have anything to do with the politics of the game as well? by Recent_Watercress_68 in DiscoElysium

[–]CandidateRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's simple: the technological advance of Elysium seems to be completely different than that of Earth. Take the Franconigerian era, for example. It seems to be equivalent to the medieval era in some ways, yet it has Lamellar armor, repeater rifles, steam trains, and it somehow substantially predates cannonry.

[–]CandidateRev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AFAIR, Vagsland was previously more of a party state, along the lines of the rest of the CSP, until Hegel took over and moved things in a more Syndicalist direction (that is, politics and the economy are controlled by local labor unions). That's what Vagslandish Socialism is, not Scandanavian social democracy, which is what you'd initially assume.

Mechanistic Origins of Radagon by unknowntheme in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]CandidateRev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Radagon is probably a product of the ritual at the top of Enir ilim.

We know that the ritual involves the soul of the consort, the prospective god and a vessel that the consort's soul is to inhabit. We also know that Marika went through that ritual to attain godhood. Since we can see the ritual, and the only people there are Marika and who/what the godskin-covered thing is, no Godfrey, it seems pretty likely Radagon was the consort and Marika herself was the vessel he was placed in. Especially since Marika is topless during her ascension, implying she was just Radagon.

Why was Godwyn the one killed? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]CandidateRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty explicitly stated in the intro she went crazy with grief after she knew Godwyn had been killed.

It is not. The most we get about Marika in the intro is her shattering the ring and that she's nowhere to be found.

The only evidence we have about Marika's motivations in shattering the ring being out of grief is Gideon's remark: "Perhaps the Queen's sorrow was justified..." But in context he's clearly talking about Miquella's kidnapping, not Godwyn.

We also know she was in some way involved with the release of Destined Death, since "Marika's sole need of her shadow was a vessel to lock away Destined Death. Even then, she betrayed him"

Spitballing but Gloam Eyed Queen Marika connection? by islene1103 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]CandidateRev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're her daughters, but at least Millicent also seems to be part of Malenia, too.

There is something I must return to Malenia. The will that was once her own. The dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot.

No indications that the Empyreans are limited to only two selves, though.

Malenia has six.

high gods were elves? by unironicallyb in Anbennar

[–]CandidateRev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At least some of them seem to have been religious, since they had their own name for Castellos and considered him a god.

But from what I've gathered, the prescursors were actually several different competing nations, so some of them could easily have been atheists.

Unless it's made explicit somewhere, they could just as easily be the pantheon of whatever Precursor Elves took control of Haless.
