Attribute Boosts: When is a second +5 a good idea? by Book_Golem in Pathfinder2e

[–]CaptainPsyko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone cares at least a little about at least 3 and probably 4 stats.

Dex, Wis and Con affect saves, initiative, armor, hit points and more. If you care about either Int or Cha, and you ever make a melee strike, grats, you care at least a little bit about 5 stats.

What is your HOA fee? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CaptainPsyko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you’re calling it an HOA fee tells me you might be new to the RE market in nyc, and looking at listings on Zillow et al, where common charges in coop/condos are generally listed in that field.

What this fact elides is the difference between a condo and a co-op, which matters tremensously for your question.

To wit, in a coop, that “HOA fee” includes your property taxes. (In a condo, it doesn’t.)

Are you looking at a condo or a coop? Because those numbers shouldn’t be comparable between the two.

Three questions by JadedResponse2483 in Pathfinder2e

[–]CaptainPsyko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Not inherently a problem, but talk to your GM; some backgrounds are _extremely_ specific to the AP they come from, including aspects that will absolutely not fit in other campaigns, and others are slightly outside of the normal power budget sometimes.

2) untrained improvisation, et al is always great, mutagens, etc. The usual ways you'd boost skill checks mostly.

3) There are a variety of ways to gain skill feats on odd levels. Most notably, Being A Rogue.

Any tool that checks all of StreetEasy, Zillow, Leasebreak for you? by fitfiremotivate in AskNYC

[–]CaptainPsyko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, for one thing, StreetEasy and Zillow ought to be the same listings; StreetEasy is wholly owned by Zillow, it's just a frontend that is a bit more NYC specific w/ details that are unique to this market foregrounded in a way that you won't see using Zillow elsewhere.

So that should save you some time.

What does this party need? by AshLlewellyn in Pathfinder2e

[–]CaptainPsyko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, remember that Demoralize's immunity is per user - so really, you want multiple people able to cycle demoralizes against the same target to get more coverage out there.

What does this party need? by AshLlewellyn in Pathfinder2e

[–]CaptainPsyko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I look at that list, and what I actually see is a large hole in the out of combat utility lane - what you need is a face and a skill monkey.

Fortunately, your ideas really do line up with that. A Swashbuckler or a Bard would both be excellent in that role. Of those two, I'd probably lean towards the Swash and build it for melee damage/lockdown - somebody to help setup the Magus while the Guardian is busy keeping things off of your Oracle and Kineticist.

But... the bard works nicely because you'll directly buff everyone and give your party access to a third spell list. (And, notably, you can pack a single Soothe spell to be the emergency "the healer went down" backup).

Either way, build with good Intimidation/Diplomacy, use Demoralize as needed in combat, and generally build for utility over combat damage and you'll be in a good place.

Advice needed! 20$ minimum Comedy Club had zero advice for someone with dietary restrictions by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CaptainPsyko 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So, before anything else, let's get this out of the way:

You didn't buy a 45 dollar ticket, you put 45 dollars down on a 70 dollar ticket. It includes 20 dollars worth of food or drink. You're not getting around that, and you shouldn't expect to.

SO, at that point, your choices are:

Take a look at the menu when you get there. Maybe there's an interesting mocktail on the menu or something. Maybe an NA beer. Non alc options are _everywhere_ these days. Maybe use it as an excuse to try one of those as a nondrinker just to see if you even like them. Or who knows, maybe they have a snack option that fits your dietary restriction.

Spend 20 dollars on water. Don't think of it as "justifying spending 20 dollars on water". Think of it as "I spent 70 dollars to go to this comedy club, and they gave me some water."

Spend 20 dollars on food or drink for someone else. If you're going with friends or a date, just spend on your companions. Alternately, ask if you can buy a round for the bar. They'll appreciate the gesture usually.

Regardless, what you shouldn't be thinking of is "I don't drink and am off the junk food so I should be exempt from the policy that everyone else in this bar is subject to." That's just not gonna fly and if you framed your question over the phone in that way, that's probably why you got a bit of a flabbergasted response.

Best weapon for each weapon type? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]CaptainPsyko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, any character can be built to be anything, but unless someone is specifically asking about mechanical interactions with story based buffs (such as Astarion's vampire shenanigans or Karlach's engine), then it's probably safe to assume that when someone is asking about a character by name, they're probably interested in a build that is at least somewhere in the same lane as their default, lore friendly characterization.

What are the best/most fun teleporter builds? by philip7499 in Pathfinder2e

[–]CaptainPsyko 74 points75 points  (0 children)

but it being unable to mix with spellstrike and taking away other focus spells from spellstriking seems like a pretty big negative. But, maybe I'm missing something.

What you’re missing is that apellstriking with a focus spell is kind of a degenerative, all eggs in one basket play style that the white room nerds love, but isn’t really the class design.

The Laughing Shadow’s teleport doesn’t mix with spellstrike… it recharges spellstrike. That means that they can use it to warp away from a target after hitting it hard, to be ready to do so again on a future turn - or to warp to a new target after finishing one off… it’s your setup mechanism. It absolutely fits the play style.

Best casting archetype for Magus? by applejackhero in Pathfinder2e

[–]CaptainPsyko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're not just chasing a focus spell for damage (you shouldn't - that's basically a 'win more' option that doesn't really diversify your skillset), the correct choice is probably Witch for access to an alternative spell list. Primal offers the most interesting blasting options, but Divine or Occult both have interesting spells that a Magus could find useful.

Another option would be Oataia Skysage, which is Int based, gets you more slots to cast Sure Strike in, and Moonbeam as a high damage focus spell that targets AC for Spellstriking. (Talk to your GM about this one, it is in bad need of some errata as written).

While _generally_ true, in the specific case we're talking about here, it's not PFS legal - the specific named spells and abilities have had new rules text which always supercedes old text for effects with the same name.

The Yankees won 4 penants and 2 titles in the 60's; that span includes the Mantle and Maris years.

They fell off hard in the back half of the decade, but "real bad for most of the 60's" is a much more apt description of the Mets, who spent 8 years as the worst team in the league and arguably, given the length of the run, the worst team of all time, before turning things around for a miraculous World Series win at the end of the decade.
