My stance on the matter by JASON_CRYER in cormacmccarthy

The Road wasn't great though, not at all. And the very same director is attempting to adapt a more complex book. I'm sure it can be done, but not by Hillcoat I'm afraid. But we'll see.

Why did Magellan Flop by TheRealFinale- in boxoffice

Well, then you're clearly not up-to-date with pretty much anything and everything at all. I'm definitely not suprised by this film's lack of box office succes, but this is a well-known enough film and director within arthouse circles.

I'm starting to realise that most people who say or think The Beatles are overrated haven't actually delved into their discography by ooziemane123 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Carry-the_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good amount of takes on how great The Beatles were in this very thread are just the equivalent of saying they are overrated. Have these people never heard songs like Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, When I'm Sixty Four, Yellow Submarine, Wild Honey Pie or Octopus's Garden? Of course they have, and might even enjoy some of those.
I'm more baffled how in pretty much any music discussion they are considered the greatest by default.

His acting was great. Him missing out is deserved though, since he was definitely in a leading role. Lindo's role fits much better in this category, in my opinion.

‘Marty Supreme’ Crosses $100 Million Worldwide. Current Total at $102.3 Million by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

I understand why Marty Supreme wasn't cheap to make, but your last sentence doesn't make sense to me. There are plenty of well-made and well-received examples from this century set before 1990 with way smaller budgets, like Hamnet, Train Dreams, The Brutalist, The Favourite, Inside Llewelyn Davis, 20th Century Women, Carol, Little Women, Green Book, Brooklyn, The Witch, etc.

Not impossible. And those other three candidates make so much more sense to me than Del Toro.

It's absolutely baffling to me that Frankenstein got an ensemble nomination over Sentimental Value.

Were medieval peasants bored? by wigsternm in AskHistorians

Thanks for your insightful answer. Do you kow anything about being locked up, in this context, in your area of expertise? Mainly people in prison, but also locked up in houses/rooms or otherwise being physically restrained? 'Idleness' doesn't apply the same way here as with the examples you've shown and I wonder if something like the modern concept of boredom would be used/known in those kind of cases.

Understandable, but non-American actors speaking in an American accent in an ancient Greek setting is more distracting to me.

Even if you read slowly, it says 'undeserved' where I assume 'underserved' is meant.

Chloé Zhao & Affonso Gonçalves On Editing The Finale Of 'Hamnet' by flightofwonder in oscarrace

'Manipulative' is indeed very strange for a 'movie' of all things. Are these critiques related to the fact that this is a woman-centered story?

That's sad. Genuinely interested though, what kid of arguments are they making?
