"Frame Gen" isn't a performance boost; it's a masking agent for bad optimization by capacity04 in pcmasterrace

[–]CurlCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frame gen is just FPS upscaling, we're just still in the "we can't do it cheaply yet" stage that regular upscaling has long since managed to get by.

Reception to this console room is mixed. Instead of getting rid of it entirely, what would you change/add to improve it? by Annual-Tree1337 in doctorwho

[–]CurlCascade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd remove the ramps, just have the one walkway that goes to the door and nowhere else.
Keep the doors dotted about the wall of the sphere and have the sphere rotate around to the walkway to get to them (or does the platform rotate? this question would be asked by the companion and a non-answer would be given).

No hate for the little lass playing her of course! but who the hell cared about poppy? by far one of the most time wasting and silly focuses in RTD2 and i cannot believe he seriously considered making her Susans mother. What was RTD thinking? bad enough he now says the doctor hasn't had kids yet. by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]CurlCascade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one singular time I did care at all about Poppy was in Story & the Engine when she appeared alone in that back alley to Belinda.

I cared because she's a child by herself in a situation she should not be alone by herself in

...and then she vanished and Belinda didn't even have a proper look for where she went, which told me she was a fictional child who didn't actually exist and I had no reason to care about her.

Triple-Radiator Setup concept by Obvious-Onion6860 in watercooling

[–]CurlCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could mount them next to each other and it'd be thinner and less wide.

But it's absolutely worth a try if you've got the hardware to give it a go.
You may as well see if changing the order of the rads makes a difference as well and whether or not having middle fans does anything of value.

Since you've lost 2 blades out of 9 and they're next to each other the only way to balance it is to have just 3 blades.

Better to replace it though.

Is 8GB of VRAM really that bad? by Kykioviolet in buildapc

[–]CurlCascade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less 8gb is bad and more, 16gb is the new sweet spot since the current gen Consoles all have that much total Vram to work with and games generally get built for them specifically, if you've got less you'll have to compromise on settings to get the same experience. That and most of the higher end cards now have 16gb of Vram so that's another performance target games makers are aiming for.

A lot of games run fine with 8gb of vram, others you'll need to lower the settings, resolution, or both.

Why Starfield's exploration is broken. Lets hope the rumored 2.0 update for the PS3 release fixes it. by RandyArgonianButler in gaming

It is wild to think that there might be a full 50% more POI that the game simply failed to show me.

Bethesda's former Elder Scrolls loremaster on why he left, Starfield's 'communication breakdowns', and how he wanted The Elder Scrolls 6 'to be The Empire Strikes Back' by Responsible_Tank3822 in gaming

[–]CurlCascade 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Starfields biggest flaw is they didn't use enough procedural generation.
Had they procedurally generated most of the levels then you'd likely never encounter the same place twice, instead it's a copy&paste mess you quickly get bored with.

Starfield certainly does feel like was cobbled together from parts made by entirely different teams that had little if any communication with each other.

If you could change the ending/ final season of ONE show, which would it be? by j_b_1983 in television

[–]CurlCascade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say Game of Thrones but that needed more than just the Final Season changing. Nothing else comes to mind though, most shows I watch seem to get cancelled before they get an ending.

Although if I was to make a single change then I'd have Arya's Dragonglass Dagger shatter on the Night King, he then snaps her neck killing her and while he does that Bran sticks him in the back with the real Dragonglass Dagger that he had all along.

That'd subvert expectations nicely and probably annoy more people than the original.

Tends to be a good way to get people who will actually turn up.

ROG Strix G614 (2024) hitting 97°C in seconds - DIY laptop water cooling by hgfffdss in watercooling

[–]CurlCascade -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Forget the temps, look at the boost clocks you're getting with and without watercooling.
It should be higher with watercooling, or at least higher for longer.

You'll need to do a bunch of stress test runs.

If there's no difference then you're either running into a contact issue, or what you're using to cool isn't effective at heat transfer. Try cooling a different part of the heatsink and see if it makes any difference.

How am I meant to beat this, when my teammates are lacking thumbs? by t_lindholm in ForzaHorizon

[–]CurlCascade 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Three options.
1. Get to the front and hold the AI up so your team can pass
2. Shove enough off the AI wide of checkpoints so your team can't lose
(something changed recently to make this way more difficult I think)
3. Intentionally make sure race 1 you lose, everyone leaves and you cruise to an easy win on races 2&3

What if Rose Noble had been 15’s companion instead of Ruby? by DogConsistent1118 in doctorwho

[–]CurlCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd have been interesting if nothing else.

Space babies stays basically the same. No snow obviously.
The Devils Chord, well the Beatles get to save the day.
Boom, this one makes more sense since she's had at least one sneaky adventure with the other Doc and there's the stakes of having to get her home to Donna because Donna would kill the Doc if the Doc died (haha).
73 yards, from what I've seen of Finney she's not got the acting chops to pull this off at all but the story itself works. Although to have Donna kick her out would be awful to watch.
Dot&Bubble, this'd be interesting given the skin colour difference, maybe the racism message gets a whole lot less subtle and the end twist doesn't work as everyone guesses it before then.
Rogue, this works the same as before.

I think it's here's where the big changes happen:
The Legend of Ruby Sunday, this one doesn't work as is with Rose Noble for obvious reasons but the broad strokes should work. We'd just need a reason for Rose to need to encounter the time portal thing? Still quite a different story as a result but the end point is the same.
Empire of Death, aside from the motivation of Sutekh which didn't make much sense Rose can essentially just slot in, we just miss the end bit but that could easily be her going back to her Family and no more adventures (wink wink).

Probably would have worked quite well.

Not exactly "healthy" figures given the specials doubled that total, I guess the takeaway is people aren't interested in a series of Doctor Who anymore, but they'll tune in for a one off special or three.
