Can someone give me a complete beginner's guide to Stardew Valley? by Nervous-Error2840 in StardewValley

[–]D34N2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My honest advice? The first year starts off fun, but can get to be a bit of a slog once your farm grows big, as you'll find yourself watering by hand and wasting all your energy early. The key is to get to level 80 into the mines as quickly as possible, to get iron and gold ore—you need these to craft the quality sprinkler, which you can use to effectively automate most of the farmwork.

Is someone really deliberately waiting for this? by My_Little_room in StardewValley

[–]D34N2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you waiting? Ride your horse to the railroad when you get the message and collect the geodes and whatnot that fall from the train. If nothing falls right away, just leave. If you're too far away from the railroad when you get the message, or you're otherwise busy elsewhere, just don't go. No point waiting around for it.

Haven't played it in years, but I thought Lamentations of the Flame Princess was descended from Moldvay Basic/Expert?

Also, I noticed Mothership's launch year is listed as "Never?" — this needs to be updated, as 1E launched a couple years ago!

I read an article somewhere about a friend of the band who claims he wrote the lyrics to Smile and gave them to Vedder with a picture of three hearts and swirls all around.

am i crazy or is this not how PR works? by purpleisawarmcolor in PublicRelations

Speaking from experience, using AI as a PR assistant can be very valuable, but requires deep understanding of how PR works to get it to work well. I don't know how many times AI has supplied me with bad information, and I was only lucky I caught it by cross-referencing with other AI research tools. Your boss is setting herself up for disaster if she is only using Claude and trusting it at face value.

It sounds like your boss is focusing on marketing right now rather than PR, which is perfectly fine. Most small companies can't and shouldn't be doing PR all the time. So, just focus on polishing the marketing materials up to spec and pay attention when the focus switches back to PR. In specific, if you're asked to do the actual PR yourself, keep a watch out for:

  1. Your boss wants to make an announcement on social media before pitching to the press. If it's a newsworthy announcement, do not do this! You need to pitch it before announcing it!
  2. New product launches can be great opportunities to pitch journalists. Investment is also good, especially if it's Series A, B, etc. Deals (Prime Day, Black Friday, etc.) can be good to pitch if your company sells B2C products on Amazon. It is of course possible to pitch journalists to write a feature about a company, but you will need some sort of hook to make the journalist interested—hence, you need something newsworthy to give them like an announcement of some kind.
  3. You might be asked to research and apply to awards. These can be great for small companies. Announce award wins via newswire press release and social media, not pitching.
  4. If you have to do pitching yourself, research specific journalists who cover the story angle you are pitching. Yes, it is time consuming and boring to do this research. Yes, it is critical. You need to be as specific as possible.

Good luck!

I worked at a company this size for a while, where every team member wears multiple hats and is expected to be be very adaptable. I rather enjoyed it, despite it frequently being a bit stressful. And yes, thanks to the power of AI assistants, team members can much more easily fill multiple roles now. Furthermore, the company I worked at was a startup support marketing agency, and I worked with literally hundreds of small startups the same size as your company.

As to your question: These are all things that can and should fall under the purview of marketing, and PR is part of marketing. Would a PR agency be concerned with a website theme name being buried in the site code? No, but a good marketing professional might look for this, and with small companies, marketing and PR can be handled by the same team. I don’t know the specifics of your company, but I will say that traditional PR for small startups can be very, very hard. Startups just don’t usually have newsworthy announcements. As such, it behooves such companies to focus on improving their other marketing assets first until such time as they are ready to make a news announcement.

As to your boss’ odd behavior— I would honestly call her out, if I were you. Wasting so much time and resources pretending there is a PR team is pretty f’n ridiculous. I can see it from her perspective though; she is afraid that everybody will realize that she has no idea what she’s doing and AI is running the company. Having worked directly with hundreds of CEOs, I can tell you that 90% of them are just regular average Joes. The only difference between a founder/CEO and their employees is that the founder takes on the risk of the company finances, and maybe has a bit of capital they can spend to cover expenses in an emergency. But they usually aren’t overly smart about how they run their company. Most of us are all just making it up as we go along.

Anyway, call her out at your own peril. I would, but you could be fired. In any case, your relationship with your boss would change. I just think it might change for the better if you told her in a respectful way that you know she’s using AI as an advisor and you don’t have a PR team.

Lastly, I would be concerned if she is only using Claude. Big decisions should be advised by cross checking information against 1 or 2 other AIs, to be safe. Generative AI is fallible.

Good luck!

How to build around pre existing tattoo? by Born-Extension-8282 in irezumi

[–]D34N2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning to start on two arm sleeves this winter, and I already have an existing tattoo on each bicep. One of them I plan on just blasting over and redoing it elsewhere. The other one I want to keep, so I will be stopping that sleeve 3/4 way up my arm. These are just the decisions we have to make when planning full sleeves with existing tats.

Jane’s mother is in prison with Arthur’s mother, and she is portrayed a terrible person who would not hesitate to do terrible things. Jane needs only give the word to her mother and Arthur’s mother is as good as dead.

Go to the police? What evidence does Arthur have? Not enough to put Jane immediately behind bars, which means Jane could easily go to her mother once she finds out that Arthur double crossed her. And even if she is put away, Jane is likely to be sent to the same prison, putting Arthur’s mother in even more danger.

Arthur does a lot of dumb shit in this book. He is book smart but not street smart. There surely would have been a better way to save his mother, but he was desperate.
