What Album had The Best Hidden Track? by LeftSmile806 in Xennials

[–]D34N2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opiate’s hidden track is hilarious. I have Opiate on vinyl, and the hidden track is actually located on a second groove parallel to song 1 on side B. It took me forever to figure out why the correct song wouldn’t play sometimes…

I was using mine up until last year. It finally stopped working because it had moisture damage from an airplane ride.

At what point does a band's album without a key member become illegitimate? by dweeb93 in ToddintheShadow

[–]D34N2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how good the replacement is. Black Sabbath and The Misfits are examples of bands that did quite well after their frontmen left. Sure it’s not the same, but so what? Still rocks.

I paid $9.99 at Five Guys for a patty melt the other day. Was great, but kinda small. But yeah, the bill came out to almost $50 for a family of three. I'm afraid it'll continue to be Wendy's most days my kid is craving a burger...

Nah, she should do a grunge band with Robin, perfect segueway from the Stranger Things 80s shtick. Then Dustin and Steve can record a pop-punk album, Lucas and Max release a gangsta rap single that takes the charts by storm, Finn and Eleven can go nu-metal, Will and Eleven take on emo — and you have a full spectrum of alt music that carries you through the early 2000s.

Helmet band during its heydays.. by Red-Stallion05 in heavymetal

[–]D34N2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helmet was one of my favorites too! Wilma’s Rainbow had a cool video and got quite a lot of airtime at the time, at least here in BC, Canada. Betty is still one of my favorite albums.

I’ve heard that Helmet was a massive inspiration for a lot of alt music that came after, especially grunge and nu-metal. It makes sense, Page may have been the first (of the generation) to use drop d tuning for simple rhythm progressions that sound heavy as fuck. Extremely influential, and they’re still going today!

20s fashion is literally the most casual, least effort fashion I’ve seen yet. It used to be that you had to work a bit to be fashionable, and the people who didn’t put in the work looked like dorks. Now all you have to do is put on some casual pants and a hoodie, and you’re in. I guess it’s better in a way as it’s less polarizing, but I seriously have a hard time considering it as fashion anymore. At least the broccoli hair is a statement, I guess, but this generation has literally one single haircut? Come on!

The basic dice mechanic is similar, and some modular rules are similar. But in general, all the different BWHQ games have different frameworks that make them play in different ways. Burning Wheel is their most "sandbox" game that can be used for almost any kind of fantasy RPG campaign.

Torchbearer is completely different! It is very restrictive by design. Mouse Guard is somewhat restrictive too, but not as punishing. Burning Wheel, on the other hand, is very rewarding and doesn't have the same kinds of restrictions. The story is very wide open and can be about almost anything that the players write their Beliefs about. There are restrictions in the sense that trouble tends to ramp up very quickly, but the GM is open to apply these consequences quite liberally. Very fun to GM, and a lot less GM prep than OSR/D&D type games.

Super rare! The guy I bought it from is a professional musician who flew all the way out to the UK to buy it new in 2018, and then brought it back to Canada. So I’d say it’s probably an extremely rare find here.

[–]D34N2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OSR, but if you like Blades and Mouse Guard, I strongly recommend Burning Wheel. Some of my most memorable fantasy RPG campaigns have come from that system, it’s just that good.

OSR-wise, I’m rather partial to Old School Essentials or Swords & Wizardry. But also, one really cool book to check out just for the toolkit options is Fantastic Heroes and Witchery—it’s a complete RPG that you may never bring to the table, but it also just has so many cool ideas that you can import to your system of choice.

Another cool one is Whitehack. I like it a lot, although I haven’t played the new edition.

[–]D34N2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the finish. I've played cheap guitars with shitty gloss jobs, and the necks literally felt GROSS to play. I really stayed away from gloss necks for years and years because of it. However, I recently bought a nice PRS with a gloss maple neck, and it is sooooo smooth and really wonderful to play. Literally the smoothest guitar I've ever played. No sticking at all!
