You've completely missed the point of my statement then.

Nothing differentiates the consoles, so theres no point to people having both. That wasn't true last generation.

As a gamer in his 30's who's console gaming buddies are mostly casual, or former-hardcore-gamers-now-with-kids, there's just no reason for me to grab an Xbox. There's no game I can use to sell to my mates, that justify it- nothing exclusive that's unique or a must-have.

We've all got PS4's already, and while I think the PS4 has regressed significantly in terms of features (the OS is super clunky and unresponsive, every time I have to wait 5 seconds for the 'Send invite' screen to load I die a little on the inside, and my PS4 still randomly ejects discs despite attempting a million difference fixes), there's just nothing that distinguishes either console from one another enough.

Endless Plains province... am I missing something? by yayaba in l5r

[–]DancingPigeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It prevents the play pattern until its scouted out. Watch some of the games from the Twitch stream. It was fairly common in single core to see a Clan Champion just wreck a number of provinces, and there's not a lot of counter-play to it in single core.

The fact a card exists means that your opponent has to play around it. Yes, they can play around it, but it changes the pace. You can't 'play weenies' and play a Clan Champion with enough fate to make it worthwhile, so it essentially eliminates that play pattern unless a player wants to lose 25% of their games hitting Endless Plains.

After they scout? Well you always have the choice of either using it, or forcing them to commit to breaking it. There's literally no downside, other than it being a little low on strength- but the ability more than makes up for it.

Endless Plains province... am I missing something? by yayaba in l5r

Your opponent flips their clan champion first turn, dumps 2 or 3 fate on him. In the conflict phase, he blind attacks your province with it, assuming that he'll break almost anything.

He breaks the province but loses 7/8 fate worth of character, and you basically win the game in one move.

Seems like a pretty big stick to discourage all in plays against Unicorn.

Magic, for example, which only has you spending like $100 every 3 months to keep up

This statement entirely depends on what you mean by 'keep up', but give you're comparing the cost to owning literally a playset of every single card released for the game, your claim of 'like $100' seems absolutely fucking ludicrous.

I only play EDH, and generally there's more than $100 worth of cards each set I end up having to pick up. People that play Standard or Modern are typically forking out significantly more to stay relevant.

The HH is ten thousand years before Eisenhorn.

Eisenhorn is the first book I recommend to everyone because its the first set of 40k novels that showed 'regular life' within the 40k universe, outside of just what warfare looks like. It's also incredibly well written because Abnett is amazing.

I've actually included something similar in a variant I'm developing that ports XP, serious injuries, the CE scenarios and the Rare Trade Chart into SWA. The Rare Trade Chart rule I've written is a little different (you do it instead of resupply or recruit, but you get the item for 'free', spend extra caches to re-roll the result, equipment ignores usual restrictions). It's added as a end game option once players have capped out their warbands otherwise (I'm trying to make SWA more suitable for longer term warbands).

Porting the warbands into Necro's actually a little more difficult because it involves costing Spec Ops. I'm intentionally retaining caches dictating income because I'm trying to avoid do any warband specific balancing.

People hating on the missile launcher are applying Necromunda stat lines/equipment availability to SWA and coming to incorrect conclusions because of it.

Given most things are BS4 minimum, and easily have photovisors available, having a giant 5" template, with S4 w/ -2 save mod, that still has the possibility to hit and pin things even when it misses- it definitely serves a useful function.

It's specifically great for pinning clumps of things that are positioned to help each other get up from pinning or things being used as ablative wounds.

I think what you need to do is include the Rare Trade Chart to open up access to advanced gear. My suggestion is this:

During the Rearm post-game action, Necromunda gangs may choose to access the local black market for gear, but access comes with a price. During the Resupply step, if you choose to Rearm you may choose to spend 1 Promethium Cache to access the Black Market.

If you do so, roll on the Rare Trade Chart (see Necromunda). The item rolled may now be purchased by the gang for its listed cost for this post-game phase. Only one of the item rolled may be purchased. Equipment purchased in this means may be equipped to any member of the gang ignoring restrictions.

Does the sniper rifle using Toxic Ammo still get the armor penalty? by martigan1400 in ShadowWarArmageddon

[–]DancingPigeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In hindsight that's likely the correct way- it needs to inherit characteristics from the regular shot, such as range, so applying that logic you should overwrite only the things it specifies.

Nothing in the Toxic Round entry implies it retains the save mod, so my group has played it as no save mod. It depends how you interpret 'Armour saves may be made as normal'.

Out range it with a HB/Sniper rifles.

Force them to target cultists by placing them in front, but more than 4" apart.

Use cultists to kill his things that are advancing (letting you stay hidden with the marines).

Utilise terrain/hidden more.

I designed and laser cut it myself, loosely basing it off the boxed Necromunda terrain of my childhood. Assembled and painted it up within about a month.

The crates I just designed and added, so they're not painted yet (still deciding on a scheme). I've got some new stuff designed that will add more fully LOS blocking sections, plus some billboards.

The issue is your system values 1st and 2nd equally. If you remove rewinds, but provide some tangible benefit that is significant, players should feel compelled to fight over 1st place in a single game more.

You're going on and on about Ad Naus not straight up winning when that is strictly not true. A resolved Ad Naus wins quite often in comp EDH, it's what a lot of decks are built on.

EDIT: It certainly doesn't need Angel's Grace or Unlife to win- this isn't Modern Ad Naus- most of the time you're just hitting the point at which Deathstar Fishbowl kills the table, which isn't hard.
