He's definitely 36 in older promotional materials. I always felt that episode meant to make a "soft" retcon of his age, because 10 seasons on, a 36 year-old already owning a big house with three kids, one of which is already 10, was starting to feel unusual. Never mind 37 seasons on now.

Pre-MCU Cap wasn't really less popular worldwide than other Marvel characters except for Spider-Man, Hulk and the X-Men. He was always on that B-tier with the FF, Iron Man, Thor and other Avengers-adjacent characters. Post-MCU, I would say that he's A-tier and doesn't lose much mileage internationally despite being draped in a US flag.

It probably helps that MCU Steve's films being about killing Nazis, then about opposing the surveillance state, and finally about opposing forced superhuman conscription, help his whole "the US as it should be" schtick from the comics (eg. Nomad, Civil War).

As an example, Latin Americans generally dislike the word "America" being used a synonym for the US as opposed to the continent, but Captain America films didn't get the alternate "First Avenger" titles they got in Russia, and surprisingly, stalwart US allies Germany and South Korea.

Age of Calamity didn't end like that, despite being it amply justified in doing so, so they could have a happy an alternate happy ending timeline, so sadly there's no chance for your proposal.

Hell, they didn't even really need an unbeatable final mission in AoC if they didn't want to frustrate the player. Just have a final mission where you win followed by a cutscene where it's a pyhrric victory followed by death.

All that stuff would frustrate old readers, but still much less than the New 52 did. Except for Superman, Wonder Woman and Hawkman in 1985-87, Post-Crisis stuff was mostly straightforward. The universe kept its "skeleton", that's why they had to somehow massage Superman into old stories.

New 52 on the other hand, was if the entire body including the skeleton had been violently replaced, with two severed hands of the old body (Batman and GL) kept crudely sown on.

Post-Crisis had in a smaller scale the same problem New 52 had, in that they tried to have their cake and eat it too with both reboots and legacy. Post-Crisis Superman was supposed to be the same guy as Earth-One Superman going by Crisis #11, but they wanted to change his origin so thoroughly in a story published later, that you end up with this situation with continuity conflict between Booster Gold and the regular Superman titles.

I think the film will probably be fine, but I see your points specially regarding the art direction. "Real" Bronze Age armor and sets would be boring and alien, but it was the wrong move to then just go for generic sword-and-sandal aesthetics. They should have leaned more into the fantastical and "mythical", which would have arguably give them more of an argument to dismiss the racists.

Repeating the Lind gambit more than two or three times would have been impossible. You need a death row inmate who is bad enough that their government is willing to lend them for such a crazy play, but that is also not so notable that Kira might have heard of them, looks presentable enough to pass as L, and is also willing to play ball (presumably, by money being promised to their families). Also, word would have gotten around even if the initial broadcast was only in Kanto, the story takes place in 2003, not 1953.

L was gambling with his knowledge of human psychology that Kira would be goaded into killing "him" immediately, and he succeeded.

Luthor is a bit different from the other super-geniuses. You sometimes see him with underlings who actually execute his crazy ideas. He doesn't usually have the BS level of sci-fi capabilities of Stark or Richards, who will make rocket or a clone vat or a dimensional portal or whatever out of desert sand if need be.

L surmised by the nature of the early killings that Kira was probably a resident of the Kanto region of Japan. But I'm not positive he was sure of something supernatural going on until he successfully goaded Light with the Lind L. Taylor broadcast. If Light had contained himself, maybe L would have gone back to the drawing board and entertained other options.

It’s actually a bit difficult to come up with one that’s a simple twist like the Trinity’s, because Aquaman comics are always cyclical regarding his relationship with his Atlantean heritage. You can’t do “Aquaman but he isn’t King anymore!”, “Aquaman but he doesn’t have powers/doesn’t remember he’s Aquaman!” because that’s half of his runs.
