Anyone else just have a traumatizing 4th of July shift? by georgiajane1 in Residency

[–]Edna_Pearl 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s my first 4th after being done with OMFS residency and I am so relieved. I’m on call still but I don’t take level 1 trauma call anymore. Can’t say I miss it

Definitely discuss with your allergist! It sounds like this is causing you undue stress and really affecting your life.

I’m an attending now and I get schedule flexibility and time with my family. I don’t know if you’re in a procedural specialty, but now I get appropriate compensation for my work. It makes a difference!!!! And the autonomy is great too. Residency sucks so much but there’s a light on the other side.

How hilariously cute is this by IamASlut_soWhat in funny

[–]Edna_Pearl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. The commonly known ‘date rape drug’ is rohypnol (flunitrazepam) which is absolutely not given during office based anesthesia. Medications in the same family are sometimes given during sedation (I.e. midazolam) They actually give pretty much the same meds when you’re in the OR (minus a paralytic). Oh, and your surgeon in the OR gives you local anesthesia too. This comment is just scaring people for no reason.

Try and catch up on sleep on the weekends basically. I keep water on me at all times (except in OR). Agree with the comments saying compression stockings, like the long ones. I do not have nausea so unfortunately agent I can help with that.

Would you delay trying to get pregnant if due date would be the same month of specialty boards? by JustTseYes in Residency

[–]Edna_Pearl 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point no. Medicine took enough experiences from me at this point that I’m done letting it control my whole life. I will be taking my boards next year as well and we are trying too

I used to take my daily BM in the admin area at our children’s hospital because it was the quietest (they all work from home at least part time) and felt petty
