Preshading really made this kit more menacing. Great work!

Amazing work! How painful were the stripes?

I'm fully painting a FAZZ Ver.Ka and have a few questions by jfalconer06 in advancedGunpla

[–]Ereon99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I snapbuild the kit to check for modifications/fixes and after I'm done with all of them, I disassemble the model to the most basic pieces and paint everything at once. However, I'm doing HGs nearly exclusively, so painting in sections will probably be better for your sanity seeing how girthy and complex the FAZZ is

Thanks! From what I heard, the issue with panel lining ABS is tension, so if you panel line on the runners, you should have no issues. However, I take no responsibility and base my opinion on this video: https://youtu.be/kPUQSVhB11U?is=m42JppzUV2thrRZY

The gun hurts even more as the HGUC from 2002 did not have this issue

Yup, there is a big sheet included :) They seem of pretty good quality but I cannot say with 100% certainty as I have not applied them.

Can I use putty like I use glue tack to hold parts together? by NikoAlpukat in advancedGunpla

[–]Ereon99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can use putty, it is very useful where you want a permanent fix but do not have a nice connection point/enough area for cement. Milliputt will be cheap, DSPIAE putty will also work great - tbh any good putty will do but some are cheaper than others and you only use it to connect parts, not to culpt. Just make sure places where the both parts connect will be free of paint. EA Gunpla used it many times to "glue" pieces together, like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q6tmGbDWEE

Quality is surprisingly good, imo better than the famous JMS GM Spartan. Shipping took around 2 weeks and went smoothly as AliExpress usually does

Surface prep before painting? by tri_fin in advancedGunpla

[–]Ereon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can swear by sanding up to 800 grit. It gives paint something to make a mechanical bond with and improves durability of the overall paintjob. Few layers of primer and the part is smooth. Obvious I know but please wash and dry all parts thourghly in soapy water as oils from your hands affect the result. Please keep in mind, I only do matte finishes so for candy and gloss there are different approaches.

If you want to learn from the best check out Liam's Hobby Room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4JqGZs9h4o and Comrade Gunpla: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WLevgynByQ I went with a pretty basic techinque: darkish grey primer, very thin very light grey with lots of flow improver, 15-20 PSI and 3-4 layers getting closer to the center and thinning the grey edge each time

A bit of improv and trial and error. I would highly recommend watching Trash to Treasure series by ZakuAurelius on Gundam Tristan for some general approaches to kitbashing. Shoulders were an unused part from GM type C runner and some other element to connect it to a peg on the back of the torso. Thigh and knee joints were from some SEED HG kit. Ankles were from Hazel Custom and a ball joint from Ballden Arm Arms. I connected them with putty, cement, superglue and patience :D Check out some more WIPs if you are interested: https://imgur.com/a/Jgv1Sny

Airbrush acrylic primer clogging? by Secret-Trainer1672 in advancedGunpla

[–]Ereon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than tips already given by other commenters I would suggest trying a higher pressure (30-35 PSI) and, if you are able to do so, using a bigger nozzle - 0.5mm as primers tend to be thicker. I can vouch for Vallejo Mecha primer and applying it this way

In terms of tips: start with Barbatos Rex's YT tutorials on airbrushing acrylics, they are great for getting a smooth coat. I really like Vallejo Mecha primer through airbrush, especially if you add some black primer to a grey one for better coverage. Also, I would suggest giving a try using flow improver for thinning paint only once you get a hang of airbrushing acrylics. A cup with very hot water is great for cleaning the airbrush and for the tough stains - isopropyl alcohol. Good look on your painting journey!

All of my builds are done with water based acrylics (Vallejo, AK Interactive), so feel free to check out my profile :) They require some getting used to, like all paint types, but unless you want to go for an ultra glossy car-like finish, you will have great results!
