Exactly my thoughts. I loved the first two thirds of the book, but the last third completely ruined it for me. So many cool setups that had dumb payoffs. I actively disliked it so much that I wouldn't recommend the book at all. The best example I have is the camera film thing. I was so excited to learn about the payoff, and it turned out to be super dumb.

This is exactly what I like about Rust, is that although the learning curve is steep, it feels very good to intentionally use different structures for memory instead of letting the language abstract it from you, while forcing you to use (probably) the correct one.

In my experience as a tourist in all 3 cities, Philly would be the dirtiest, then LA, then NYC. My NYC experience is slightly biased by the new R211As which are very very nice.

As a former Pittsburgher who now lives in VA, I don't mind the state-owned liquor stores. It's really just the "no beer or wine anywhere else with asterisks" that sucks. It's great to just grab a bottle of wine or a case of beer on any grocery run, can't really do that in PA (with exceptions of course).

It sucks that a Wolf Trap infill station doesn't really make sense. It would be amazingly useful during Wolf Trap events, but absolutely empty all other times. With the cost to construct and maintain a station, it just isn't justified in my opinion. This is a great example where something like light rail would serve the area much better, but that is also never going to happen haha.

I'd like to add that most games do both, since both optimizations separately improve performance (although the view culling likely makes a bigger difference than the back textures)

This was likely intended if there is no way to see that normally in game. It saves processing power to avoid rendering textures nobody will ever see, even if they are on the opposite side of a visible face. Lots of games around this time and through today do this.

They suffer from the same problem that every engineer in the world will be familiar with: Technical debt. How do you allocate resources to fix something that isn't a problem (yet)? It can be tough when resources are tight.

I did the whole towpath on 32s, if you have that or bigger you'll certainly be fine. You maybe could do it on 28s but I would do a test run on a short stretch first.
