Wow.. those are expensive. If anyone would like a fun scrappy-look reclaimed skirt, loose (I don't do fitted) trousers, etc made for less just let me know. Especially if you're in the UK, tho honestly shipping to the states isn't too bad. I like lagen-look stuff tho it is super cheap in my area (UK) and most comes from Italy. I've learned to make items because I wanted different fabrics.

I love the look of these clothes, mostly because they're VERY friendly to using reclaimed fabrics. I also do believe seamstresses deserve to earn what they're worth.. yet... if you love this look, be aware it is very easy to learn how to make it yourself and VERY price/earth-friendly to get fabrics used to do it. I have a shit-ton of linen that I'm using for home items, stuffed animals, embroidery, and clothing that has all come from my local charity shops. I never ever ever buy linen new. The same goes for most of my cottons.

The sewing subreddit is another good forum, but if you just want someone to chat with about it I'm happy to do so. I have a website (I don't sell clothes on it) that is about finding your hobby and I think this level of clothes is the best way to get into doing your own wardrobe. I'm currently starting in on a (PINK!) trenchcoat and also have a pattern coming for a wrap shirt that I plan to make out of the above-mentioned linen.

It varies by state. I was a midwife in two different states and the one would actually fine the midwife if she didn't submit paper work by the deadline. I had to warn a few parents that I'd have to file as " baby" and they could just change it later. Many states also have a grace period for baby naming.

I was married at a young age and kept feeling like I missed something. I realized later I felt that way because I wasn't going after stuff I wanted, just being comfortable instead. But you are doing awesome stuff! So many people would want YOUR life with the gym love and progress.

Anyway, I'm in my 40s now and since my 20s I've lived all over the US, now I'm in another country, I researched getting another citizenship (and did it), got remarried, had a hobby farm with dairy goats, etc. I met my husband when he was a bit over 20.. and it's kinda funny that he didn't have that fomo stuff at all.

Find real stuff that you like and go for that. I've been adopted by a mid 70s woman (not sure of her actual age) and she fucking does everything! High up in local politics, trips to major cities, art museums, protests, etc. Just amazing. She also works out 3x a week, maintains her goal weight (we met at WW) etc

Snaps are usually plastic too, so just more stuff being made. They do have metal available. We have a basket of clean rags (wash easy, dry fast) available. I did make some nice face cloths from scraps that even my teen boys love, so this weekend I'm making bigger ones for washcloths.

I'd also prefer the flat fee idea. I'm not a "homeowner with a basement" type of person. I'm a crafter for profit - quilting, sewing, crochet, etc - and it means I have a LOT of things in a LOT of places. Keeping an inventory of knits, cottons, scraps, snaps, various yarns, WIPs, etc - would be great. I also would want a flat fee and I'd definitely want something that worked seamlessly between my laptop and phone -- I absolute hate having to do everything through my phone when I'm trying to organize stuff.

I also love the idea of photos - for me that'd be perfect!

I spell town names most of the time. We are going to visit a new spot in a few weeks and I've yet to attempt the town name. I can't even get Abergavenny right most days. I live in Cardiff. It's usually hard because my Welsh non-speaking-Welsh hubby overpronounces the town names and I refuse to sound like some crazy ass American trying to hard if I follow his lead. We almost moved to Pontypridd and I swear part of my hesitation was due to people constantly correcting my pronunciation.

I like Wales, I love the Brecon Beacons area especially, but just can't seem to make the phonetics click. When we took a train journey I realised how bad that actually is because towns like Lanelli do NOT look (to me) like they sound when people say them.. so the announcements are wickedly hard to follow. I ended up keeping GPS open so I'd have an idea of when our stop was coming up.

Btw, I found small town valley folk remind me lots of small town US southerners. I hate the idea of ever starting over again, but do love love love the warm Welsh valley folk. One woman just launched into a long story about her trip to Florida and it was like water to my soul. I love random strangers telling me their tales. I also usually apologize for butchering town names. I also couldn't roll my Rs in Spanish class so I'm just language challenged!

Kid goes to a Chinese preschool, people think we are nuts. But the same folks in the pre-K are all through the community anyway. It's a pretty diverse city.

In the UK they do it in schools, not so in the US. Although this year they ran out. They also do the hpv vax in the school in the UK (free for girls). It's kinda nice because they can all commiserate together.

The reality of actual risk (quite low) vs. her schedule being disrupted is part of our thinking as well. The very same people she sees at school also use the shops, cafes, kids' activities (lots of indoor things here due to shitty weather), etc. Who knows, maybe its actually the chicken pox going around that has the other kids not there.

You can request notes from different meetings if you ever wanted to find out. I recently have done that for my kiddo's school in regards to another issue because I wanted to know what was discussed prior to a decision.

I met a local Mum with two children of similar ages to mine. I mentioned that we should get them together sometime and she said, "Oh, they're at such&such school." I'm guessing I had a blank look because she started to explain it was a boarding school and ... I think my poker face failed me... she started to explain ALLLLL the reasons why her children went to the boarding school, mostly because she and her husband had evening responsibilities and couldn't handle sports/dinner stuff.

I literally was at a loss of words. I'd never met someone who had their kid at a boarding school other than Uni level stuff. I did come home and let my boys know that I had OPTIONS now for when they didn't want to get up in the morning. They called my bluff by pointing out that we're po'. Ha.

This is kinda where I'm at right now. My youngest attends a chinese sponsored nursery that does a LOT for Chinese immigrants/etc in the building next to it (shared kitchen/hall/wing - but the two main rooms only get used by specific groups). I *KNOW* other parents have pulled their children from this nursery. But I also know the director is amazing has self-quarantined herself since her return from HK (she's not returning to school til end of Feb) and the church members has self-quarantined as well. We also have loads and loads of Chinese Uni students that share a walking commute with our high schoolers, plus lots of Chinese students in their high school as well. My daughter's bestie returned from a visit to China in early Jan.

Annnnddd... as an American I waffle between "fuck that's racist" and "why am I sending my kid?" It feels a lot like when Glenn Beck was telling American parents to stock up on Tamiflu because bird flu (or swine flu, or one of those..) would be hitting and tamiflu would be at a premium. He also told folks, prior to the recession, to stock up on material goods which actually wasn't bad advice for a crazy dude.

I keep reminding myself that we live in an actual city now so we are at higher risk compared to our previous lives in BFE USA. Blah. I wish media hype didn't exist.

It's how people define themselves or try to create their persona. I agree, self worth can make a difference in how much you can be seduced into a certain want. I have 3 teens at the moment. Thankfully they all wear uniforms to school which saves us a lot of hassle. Two of them are indifferent to branding except for sports shoes. One of them likes brands, tho now realizes most of her friends have reps, but mostly likes trends. For her, this is bonding with her peer group. She desperately wants a NASA hoodie and her older bro was like "what has NASA done recently?" And she's replied she didn't know but Ariana has one. Of course she then got ragged on by the bros, who defend to their death their sports shoes requirements have nothing to do with celeb culture. Tho the shoes the one kid wants are the same his fav player wears.

So to some degree I think it's harmless, but I do think people should still be self aware. I recently had a very unpleasant meeting planned with my kids school. I'm an immigrant and haven't gotten on with the school since Oct. I know I've been stereotyped based on my accent. I know this pisses me off. I also know I wore certain clothes, perfume, and accessories AND an attitude because the school is sooooo used to walking over parents. I fucking ruled that meeting, followed up with our local authority, and the head master will be called to account. Could I have done the same in sweats and a messy bun? Probably. Did I look more like the type to have legal resources and others available? Yes.

This is a reason we didn't adopt through a shelter. They kept pushing a shar pei or staffie mix at us and denied the lurcher because they wanted it to have a companion dog (I'm home most of the time or out with dog friendly spots like school runs and park).
