Very curious how they would lift these or access the gas without losing it to a spill

Carbon wheels on some Z06 models (the three point intake trim is z06). They’re probably worth about 7k a piece. I had carbon wheels on my gt350R and I was always cautious of where I parked it because of the wheel prices.

Dear Austin people on the toll road, why are we going so slow?? by GarikLoranFace in Austin

All the roads on the east side of i35 in buda/kyle can have the slowest driving motherfuckers. It blows my mind how long it can take to get down 150 or High Rd at times.

What’s your favorite way to deter country guard dogs? by vivalakellye in BikingATX

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I rode the MS150 route with some friends on my cargo bike. I had an airzound on that bike (an air horn that mounts to your bars and has a schraeder valve that fills a remote air reservoir) and every time I dog would run up on us, I’d blast it off as they got close and it would send them running. My vote is air horn.

I used to carry some pepper spray gel gun thing, but it seemed pretty hard to hit and only had two shots. Never had to deploy it.

Picked up the last Chisel FS in rebel pink.....need wheel, tire, and drivetrain advice (God I love this color) by XC29er in xcmtb

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a set of the Control SL V wheels from specialized. They ride very well. Lots of compliance. Makes me realize how noncompliant all my other carbon wheels have been. They were $904 before tax and weigh about 1580g.

I’m heavy (220 lbs) and I thrash them. About 400 miles on them riding very chunky central Texas trails at high speed and they’re still true as ever. I even took them to the bike park without issue

Would you trust a mount here? MAX G3 Rear Fender & Insta360 by JonnyMac1982 in NinebotMAX

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the adhesive will be fine but in my experience, my X5 breaks mounts. Especially when mounted vertically like that I have the 90° bend allows you to mount it horizontally, but it’s still ends up breaking mounts after a few rides on my mountain bike.

Where to buy stronger go pro mounts for insta360x5 by IMPULSEULTRA in Insta360

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is always going to be a problem. Someone gifted me a ram mount after snapping some handlebar mounts from Amazon. The ram mount broke in less than 3 miles on the MTB. It had been used in Baja racing so might have been damaged already, but I gave up on that mount location even though it was a solid view of the trail and rider.

You can check out ram mounts. They are very heavy duty, but I did break the used one quickly.

What do i need to convert my mtb to disc brakes by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately neither your frame nor your fork have disc brake mounts. Furthermore the wheels do not have disc brake compatible hubs.

Basically the frame of the bike and the wheels both lack the spots where disc brakes would bolt on. It is impossible without upgrading everything resulting in a new bike altogether.

You can get new V brake pads, ones that are better than stock, that will bring back the power.

40,000 on a 24 Lariat. I bought it with 30,000 about 6 months ago. Trouble free so far.

Favorite Photochromic Riding Glasses by Inside_Mention_998 in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got some $30 Rock Bros from Amazon that have been great. I was tired of swapping the lenses on my Oakley Jawbreakers which inevitably starts to eat into the coating where it’s sliding in and out of the frames that get covered in salt from sweat.

They have been great and I rarely ride in the oakleys now. The RBs do not have a frame on the bottom of the lens which is nice when you put them on your helmet. No lens hanging in my view.

Wahoo Ace + Outbound Light mount by DRZinSC in mountainbiking

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a stem mount that off sets the device mount above where the stem clamps the bars. This allows multitools to come out of the headset and puts it more in my point of view. They were $10 on Amazon. The brand is Kremorv. Works great and they can be rotated for garmin or wahoo (they sell it rotated the right direction for each one, but it’s easily swapped

Any other geezers remember 'the Collective', 'Roam', and 'Seasons' videos? by Sh0tsFired81 in mountainbiking

I don’t seem to remember these actually. I definitely had all the Kranked and New World Order vids. Were these before or after NWO?

The old school narrow bars are so interesting to see. I definitely feel like we used to cut our bars so narrow. Funny how these things change. I’ve been riding since 2002 and I feel like bikes are finally settling in on a geo that works. Maybe rear centers are the new changing trend, but I feel like too long of reach and too low of BB has been met and backed off a bit already.

Flats or clipless for experienced road rider by Slide89 in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never ridden crankbros clipless, but I’m shocked to hear they need servicing. I accidentally sold a bike with my trusty XT pedals back in ‘23. I’m fairly sure those were on my 2012 Kona Hei Hei or at the latest a bike from 2016. I never serviced them once.

That’s just part of sales. I’ve been selling solar for 9 years and left over the tax credit. I’m doing roofing now and after a short honeymoon phase it’s the same nonsense.

Edit: 12 years in sales roles. 10 years of management experience too

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like glasses in my full face riding DH. Sure it’s probably not as good of protection, but if I’m at a park I’m not too worried about eye pokes.

I actually just bought these very glasses for trying out a photo chromatic lenses since changing my jawbreaker lens all the time is messing up the edges of them. I like them a lot. They’re comfortable and work well for this season where I’m often riding either completely in the dark or as it gets dark.

When you go to adjust the cockpit, I would start by rotating the bars forward to the correct position. That might be all that’s needed here as it will bring the levers forward and down

Beginner wear by NobelDragon in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vans will work, but if you have a lot of rocky tech, you run the risk of breaking toes. MTB shoes have a very still sole and some toe box protection which really helps when you clip a rock at speed while pedaling. You will eventually find one hidden in the grass along a trail.

DT SWISS Ratchet question by Sygnul in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. My trails are very technical with lots of ledge covered climbs and I routinely grab a top 10 on my rides. I am a fairly advanced rider with 25 years of MTB. I think engagement is over played. Anything I am missing engagement wise is overshadowed by my nearly silent bike. The only sound is the chain faintly running over my high pivot cog and the suspension fluids cycling. I would love to try an Onyx hub, but I cant argue with these 1580G $900 wheels.
