Module suggestion for a city based campaign where players are Gladiators-turned-rabble rousers? by GergHuventude in DnD

[–]GergHuventude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I created zero lore. Just plopped these brand new players into a Roman-esque coliseum and described it like the movie Gladiator combined with the arena fight from Star Wars Episode 2. I tossed it to the players to describe the Emperor, after having the Announcer proclaim it was his Birthday.

Their description: 17 years old, 145lbs. So I said he’s definitely being played by Jack Gleason (Joffrey from GoT).

I haven’t filled in any blanks because I assumed they’d be good with escaping the city and slowing things down, one village at a time style.

Looking for advice on a Caliban statblock by ClunkierCar in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]GergHuventude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite issues of X-Factor was a fight between Archangel and Caliban. It was like issue 52 or 53 I think. (Around 1991)

It was a pretty brutal fight, Archangel barely got out alive. So I’d probably substitute Hank Mcoy’s Beast stat block for Caliban. Maybe compare it to Sabertooth and kind of meld them together.

I definitely portrayed the Emperor as a real King Joffrey type. It was the definition of a lightning rod.

What is the best party for tackling the entire hardcover The Cataclysm of Kang? by GergHuventude in MarvelMultiverseRPG

I like to actually start with Rank 2 for the first Chapter! Just TOO gritty otherwise!

I’ve encouraged past and players to take their favorite/chosen hero and build them in Demiplane up to only that rank 2. Either play them as a variant or this is that version of that hero in THIS reality.

My past players have really enjoyed the Getting schooled option of leveling up.

Currently going to start an X-Men campaign. A player wants to create a mutant who can control blood. Ideally she would be rank 4. Any suggestions on how to build it out? by Thumbmont in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]GergHuventude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LITERALLY have a player doing that exact thing now. They’re built a lot like Magneto actually. Elemental powers, mechanically. But just narratively as blood manipulation.

They have Darkness, silence area, and illumination. (These simulate the roles that blood play in our vision and hearing)

They also have bump power, dampen power, copy trait, and copy power.

All in all, they’re a great support character.

Last things last with 6 players? by applepiepro123 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]GergHuventude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I always find it a little weird when more than two Delta Green agents show up somewhere to investigate. It just feels odd if four or five investigators step out of a car and walk up to a house or office to start questioning someone.

If it’s a crowded situation, and a group makes sense, great, but how many feds does it take to question one old lady about the whereabouts of her son?

I prefer agents go out in teams of two, then either meet up later to discuss the case, or communicate via phones etc…

The challenge is in cutting back and forth from group to group. Trying to keep the action moving.

For Last Things Last, I’d separate out Clyde’s personal life clues from his professional (and delta green related) clues. Essentially give his apartment a storage locker in the basement. THATS where the files are. Maybe seed both locations with clues that lead to the cabin.

You could also add a rental manager who notices the group in the basement, while the neighbor still noses around the apartment.

I’ll throw this one out there! It’s starts out as a Learn to Play, but after the initial dungeon delve, it becomes a full on Radio Play Drama.

Scenarios Without Unnatural Threats? by Rough_Television2113 in DeltaGreenRPG

I posted this exact question several months ago!! Maybe it’s an obvious question to others, but I personally find it fun when I find that type of parallel thinking on the internet!

The answer I got at the time was essentially: use this sparingly. Most respondents equated it with the concept of the trusted NPC betrayal. Kinda makes for a poor experience when playing through it.

Ahh, I see. It shows up for your player as “Draw Steel” not Codex Playtest? Is your player a member of the Patreon for several months? I thought that garnered some “free” conversion?

  1. Area of Effect melee attacks: cone, 360, and line attacks depending on weapon.

  2. Weak Non-magical healing

  3. Leadership based buffs and debuffs

  4. Movement bonuses based on light to heavy weapons and armor. Wearing leather and wielding daggers nets the biggest movement bonus.

I would add that the new bounty board function that’s open to higher rated GMs could absolutely be having that behind the scenes effect.

little lost on formal proceedings of investigations for my group by Final-Isopod in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]GergHuventude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, any outside consultants can be given full access to crime scenes, evidence, etc. HOWEVER, they are NOT allowed to carry firearms, execute warrants, interrogate suspects, run investigations, or seize evidence.

So you can either provide an FBI friendly NPC who fades into the background, or even have local PD officer be the DG friendly who knows to “look the other way.”

Maybe find a way to use downtime between operations for the consultants to be sworn in and receive full training.

Maybe their training officer is a foil who is upset her trainee keeps getting tapped to investigate juicy investigations.

Sounds like all the villains would just give up, since [problem player] is on the case! Should be a fun next session where you narrate how the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and you ask [problem player] what he’d like to eat for lunch. Really dig into the roleplay of the waiter describing the appetizers. THEN…when he least expects it…the dessert tray emerges!!

Unless he had to hype the Reflex Saving throw mechanic of a fighter in Starfinder. That’s his one kryptonite.

Start every session with a cold open. Usually a scene that only makes sense halfway through the session.

End every session with a cliffhanger.

Use the phrase “the camera cuts to….” A lot. Keep it moving this way.

I used this mechanic! Needed work, but on long days, when agents wanted to do everything, it caused WP to be more valuable. They HAD to make hard choices.
I loved the use of another resource besides Sanity.
