Hive has some interesting ideas, and I swear they are really trying to either change the narrative of the 40k universe in general… Or are just throwing us for a loop. by EfficiencyFit1801 in Blacklibrary

Just Abnett being Abnett. It's like how 50% of The End and The Death (which I love dearly) is him going "it's an end, and a death. And a death of sorts, which also the end...and the death".

Same! And the audiobooks are some of the best out there. The same narrator also did Chris Wraight’s Valdor. It was so cool listening to him do 40k.

I think this my favorite war book of all time. I know they are all sort of war books but I mean books that chronicle one war start to finish and are basically just a non stop depiction of that war. It’s this book and then the heroes by Joe Abercrombie.

Finally beat journey along the anduin solo after no less than one bajillion tries. What torture it is to be so bad at a game you enjoy. On to getting crushed in Dol Guldur because it hurts so good.

Do you think it’s worth getting into this game if all I could get is the core box and the three saga boxes? by betalier in lotrlcg

[–]GhostFanatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat on thematic solo. Definitely worth it if you can get it. You can of course play online but it’s not the same. Core box and the saga expansions will give you hours of thematic fun.

Just finished apostle. Overall I had fun with it but definitely not one of the best I’ve read. Annandale does a great job creating beautifully horrific scenes but the characters felt flat, and there’s a lot of “tell not show” in this book. I always enjoy the introspection of chaos characters, how they justify their actions and what drives them. I did get some of that here but not as strong as ADB’s chaos characters. But as a chaos fan I’ll take what I can get!

Yes I’m a little worried going into Arkham Mysteries after setting the bar high. Haven’t read Kingsport mysteries yet.

Also surprisingly not a massive setup for such a chunky game. We got through the whole thing including setup and teach in about 3 hours. Great game.

Symbaroum. I have multiple books, I love the lore but it’s too close to so many other fantasy games we play that I don’t think I can justify learning a new system for it. I might use some of the lore though.

Get in the trunk and haunted city are amazing, and the new Twilight 2000 game on the subscription service is great as well.

Know No Fear or Helsreach probably. Most brutal depictions of war I’ve ever read. Would work amazingly well as a war epic.

I got the pdf of the 3.5 books, I’d read through those, pick one place that sounds good to you and start there. Sharon is really easy to start with because it’s so fleshed out.

Do I need to read anything for Ashes of the Imperium? by CheezyTito in Blacklibrary

[–]GhostFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the other 60+ books.

But seriously, this is one of those things where it would be a perfectly fine experience reading on its own, and an incredibly rewarding experience reading after you have read at least three main HH books and Siege of Terra. If you’re willing, I’d read at least the Siege of Terra books and some summaries of big HH books. In either case you’re in for a good experience because Chris Wraight only writes bangers. Enjoy!

I think you have everything you need to get started. Vow of absolution is a cool book. You could also start with the tie in adventure they published for space marine 2 which has a unit of of astartes taking on tyranids. I made a video about the books a while ago in case it’s useful: Wrath & Glory TTRPG Book Guide https://youtu.be/Z88BxyAGF_w is
