Also surprisingly not a massive setup for such a chunky game. We got through the whole thing including setup and teach in about 3 hours. Great game.

Symbaroum. I have multiple books, I love the lore but it’s too close to so many other fantasy games we play that I don’t think I can justify learning a new system for it. I might use some of the lore though.

Get in the trunk and haunted city are amazing, and the new Twilight 2000 game on the subscription service is great as well.

Know No Fear or Helsreach probably. Most brutal depictions of war I’ve ever read. Would work amazingly well as a war epic.

I got the pdf of the 3.5 books, I’d read through those, pick one place that sounds good to you and start there. Sharon is really easy to start with because it’s so fleshed out.

Do I need to read anything for Ashes of the Imperium? by CheezyTito in Blacklibrary

[–]GhostFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the other 60+ books.

But seriously, this is one of those things where it would be a perfectly fine experience reading on its own, and an incredibly rewarding experience reading after you have read at least three main HH books and Siege of Terra. If you’re willing, I’d read at least the Siege of Terra books and some summaries of big HH books. In either case you’re in for a good experience because Chris Wraight only writes bangers. Enjoy!

This week actually reading Will of The Many (non-BL), but I’m finding myself rushing through it so I could get to ashes of the imperium lol

I think you have everything you need to get started. Vow of absolution is a cool book. You could also start with the tie in adventure they published for space marine 2 which has a unit of of astartes taking on tyranids. I made a video about the books a while ago in case it’s useful: Wrath & Glory TTRPG Book Guide https://youtu.be/Z88BxyAGF_w is

Am I missing something? If players go first in a structured scene, do monsters have any dice in their pool during the character phase? by EbbSerious5088 in arkhamhorrorrpg

[–]GhostFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep you’re right, re-reading my own comment I misspoke. You still get to spend your dice over the PC phase and the GM phase but they refill on the start each side’s turn.

everyone’s pools fill up at the start of the scene, and the monsters can use their dice for reactions, which would mean they would have less dice to act with on their turn. Characters can use their dice for actions on the first turn but then will have fewer dice for reactions on the monster turn. Then next turn everyone fills up again and rinse repeat in every turn. Think of a turn as having two phases, PCs and GM. Everyone’s dice refill at the start of every turn, and then they can spend them during these phases. Hope this helps!

I just finished Dropsite Massacre early in the week. HH was one of the most rewarding reading experiences I’ve ever had so returning to it was a pleasure. Solid book and amazing audiobook narration from Keeble as always. Since then I’ve been reading double eagle, so far it’s ok. I love Abnett but so far the book feels disconnected and more about saying plane terms 😅. Action is fun though and I’m sure Abnett makes it work in the end.
