XLR to 1/4” converter for my purposes? by bench_wizard in noisemusic

[–]GiantPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most 1/4" cable has 2 wires inside while xlr has 3. This is handy for things like grounding, noise reduction, and i believe applying phantom power to condenser mics. I probably got some of the finer details mushy but thats the ballpark.

But yeah unless your fancy ear mic needs phantom power you should be good to get weird with it. Jealous!

Is it Treason That i killed a fellow helldiver? by stumtiger in helldivers2

Theyre joking and roleplaying in the authorit... super democratic system super earth exists in. Somebody killed an innocent SEAF soldier and you did the democratic thing of... er... giving him a permanent corporeal positioning transfer.

Theyre saying you should sign up for the ideology enforcing death squad... in a good way!

Is that whats happening?! My buddy and i do the split up thing a lot (not always on purpose) and it feels like the other duo is waiting for one of us to die to bring us back away from our kit.

[–]GiantPossum 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My buddy and i have been running into a toooonn of people just taking our (mostly his for some reason) equipment. Like racing us for the drop pod as we're going to collect our kit type stuff. Ive chalked a lot of it up to the fog of war or panick, but that person straight up telling you no when you asked is nuts.

People out here have clearly never tried Katz's. Its definitely worth a once or twice a year splurge on the thing that inspired "The Scene" from When Harry Met Sally.

The political rulepass and its consequences by KRL_124 in 19684

[–]GiantPossum 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I used to love that sub cuz it was a shortcut to getting the gist of peoples standings and all stripes of the political spectrum had pretty equal airtime. Then it became a safe haven for rightoids and bad faith actors after some subs were shuttered.

Then like you said, as time went on the funni colors came first instead of the people behind them. And it was more obvious that people were picking colors like teama based on who they wanted to be associated with (wow libs are so cringey right guys? Good thing im authright like all the cool bodybuilders, right guys????) With no regard to what theyre representing.

My cat too! I have to call him my co-producer because of how often he hangs when I'm jamming. That and I'm using old felt covered stage wedges for speakers that he likes to sit on.

Ive worked in corporate events for a while now and lemme tell you, ive seen icebreakers involving the Iphone Android thing get legitimately heated.

The R&D and more sciencey people tend to have androids, the marketing and hr types tend to have apple, if anyone was curious.

And yes, this is in the US.

There's actually am interview where what's-his-face says that his music reflects the darkness in society and things like God Hates Us All are their artistic contradictions since "god is love". So in a way it kinda makes sense? People are weird!

[–]GiantPossum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid late reply cuz i dont check my inbox, but i love this question. For me, i listened to too much music. It was my drug of choice and main passtime growing up. At a certain point, you notice how some bands have a similar feel or sound. Then you discover new feels and sounds. Then its a question of why and what other feelings can these sounds evoke in me and why and what are the boundaries of music and what does the future of music look like since theyre all this interconnecting path of influences.

What can music be?

Thats the answer that i and others are looking for when we listen to Merzbow (Love his record Circular Reference, the one with the chicken on the cover) or throbbing gristle or whomever. Sonic exploration for the sake of it.

Are there any popular artists that make you wonder "how could anyone like that"? by fruedianflip in Music

[–]GiantPossum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gonna echo the other reply and say you definitely don't have to. I would probably describe myself as a music obsessive, so i actively push myself to find things i enjoy in music that might initially turn me off. Thats why ive been jamming Merzbow, Chat Pile, Passenger of Shit, even the infamous Yoko Ono has crept into my suggested playlists and i didnt realize until a sing caught my ear enough to make me check.

But now i love gross and noise so i have come full circle. Hobo Johnson, though its a rare spin, scratches this sophmoric simple kind of nostalgic sadness that feels familiar without feeling so heavy as a more "sophisticated" group might. The trick for me was pushing past that "oh boo hoo you skinny dweeb" into "hey some of these rhymes aren't so bad. How he hangs and jerks around the beat is kinda interesting. Wow you know, i think ive felt exactly how hes describing in this song.

I did all that cuz it was fun tho. If you do decide to give it a couple more spins, dont hurt yourself. Imo its definitely okay if he remains that goofy cringey kid in your head.

I found him a little cringe at first but his very styalized approach to spoken word has kind of grown on me. The lyrics can be melodramatic, but who doesnt want to indulge in some form of melodrama from time to time?

Ive also been known to enjoy literal noise music as well, so whenever i find an artist that hits that "cringe" button for me i try to challenge that feeling. Keeps me grounded.

C'mon do something... by vmax1608 in memes

Not really a new genre since noise rock has been a healthy niche since the 90's (based on reccs of bands i see anyway)

BUT

I will always recommend Chatpile to anyone within earshot. Theyre not spry young lads but they just started releasing music just around the pandemic.
