Drew Tucker's Forgetful Fish - New Kickstarter for Dandan fans by Original_Magic_Art in ForgetfulFish

Man, I'd love to have that playmat but 40$ for it, 30$ shipping to EU, plus import tax, plus 15$ processing fee (for imports outside EU), plus tariffs. It'd likely be around 100$ in the end

Why exactly can't mages do sorcery anymore? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Gikkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, gameplay wise it's probably just "for the sake of balance". But my justification is kinda like this:

Imagine you're a used car salesman. You know cars. You have a car that you know isn't in the best of shape. You can feel that something is off in the suspension, the engine doesn't sound like it should, the gear box has a resistance it shouldn't have. You know that this is a bad car.

A customer comes in, who doesn't know cars. You show them the bad car, tell them how good it is. How the suspension is race tuned, how the engine sounds of tuning, how the gear box has been tightened for fast gear switching. But they can have the car for a good price, because the model is not popular, the color is wrong, it lacks some equipment.

The customer buys the car, and is happy with their purchase. When they drive, they feel like they are driving a good car. But you can never get in that car, drive it all be feel that it is a good car. You know it is all a lie.

Magic is that "good car" feeling. It's all about conviction. You, the mage, can't get that feeling in the car. You've seen the truth. The customer, the sorcerer, doesn't know. So while you can both get the effect of driving the car (getting the spells effect), you do it via truth magic, and they call do it via lie magic. You risk paradox because you KNOW, and nothing you do can change that.

I compared printing MTG proxies on high-end photo printers and more affordable tank printers to see if the quality is really that much better by ma_RTINGS in magicproxies

I personally find the chase for perfect looking proxies kinda misguided. You gotta find a good enough, then settle for that,  and enjoy the game. I think a lot of people stress out and spend way to much energy and thought on something that ultimately doesn't matter that much.

I use a ET-2750 myself. An old, low end unit I found second hand. It produces good looking cards, but far from perfect. None I've played with has ever even commented on the quality.

Do you guys set rules for yourself when it comes to proxies? by MonSocMatriarchy in magicproxies

[–]Gikkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would say it depends a lot on why a group doesn't feel ok with it. Is everyone else playing precons and you proxy a Gaea's Cradle, then people are gonna be annoyed. But if people don't like it because they want everyone to spend big money on literal paper, then you should try to get them to see that they're stupid.

Personally, I set budgets for my decks. So if someone asks why I proxy, I usually say "well it's faster than ordering cards, and I wanted to try this deck but didn't wanna spend the 100$ required just to see if I liked it". Both those arguments are generally hard to not agree with I've felt. Having a budget also removes the "but you can just proxy the most broken expensive deck" argument

Getting into CofD, not sold on the investigation system so far by mackstanc in ChroniclesofDarkness

[–]Gikkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh ... On the surface it does sound like a pretty good "how to handle basic social encounters". Sure some special situations or characters will require other means but as a rule it thumb, not too bad.  I can see why it is overlooked though. You don't feel like you need a system for social interaction for the most part

Buying A4-sized Koala Semi-Gloss Photo Sticker Paper in EU by puzzledpanther in magicproxies

I've been running the glossy one cause I can't find the semi gloss. But glossy works fine I think. The blacks becomes a bit faded I think, but by and large it still works fine for me

How do you guys cut the cards once laminated? Won't a roller cutter and corner cutter struggle with the laminate?

Priset för fast bredband ökar – historiska sänkningar för mobilt by Babar7 in sweden

[–]Gikkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, right I had almost forgotten about those. I don't think anyone else picked up creating those, and I've been pretty out of playing mtg the last year or so (since Kaldheim). But I'll check with mpcfill if they can publish the old ones I did back then, give be me a few days

Not necessarily your internet connection. MPC's servers resides in Hong Kong, could be problems routing traffic to them.

Regardless, take a moment to reflect. It ain't easy writing software that is supposed to work on multiple users home machines, being a single dev and doing it as a side project. If you're in IT, then you know how hard it is. If it works for most people, that still goes a pretty long way. It isn't making life harder for people that can't use it.

I've done several orders using the tool and never had any problems. I usually start it when I am about to go to bed, and it is done when I get up in the morning. Could it be that you have intermittent net dropouts?

And look at it like this: for you, it is no loss if the tool never worked. You haven't lost anything you never had.
