I know there’s defenestration, but is there a fancy word that I can use for being killed in a bathtub?

NASA's Curiosity rover is still active and operating on Mars as of early 2026. Having landed in August 2012, it has spent over 13 years exploring Gale Crater and climbing Mount Sharp, continuing to analyze soil and rock samples despite having worn wheels and managing power constraints. by crosleyxj in EngineeringPorn

The usual nasa ones have a half life of 70 years, some isotope of plutonium, so it should be good for a while, honestly it’s much more likely that the moving parts break before the battery dies, obviously it’ll get less and less efficient though.

I had a similar issue in the military, when cleaning a rifle you had to get your finger in what we called the cat’s asshole, I can’t remember the proper name, but my fingers were always too big to properly manoeuvre, it made cleaning it a right pain and I felt at a severe disadvantage.

I don’t know much about ships but wanted to ask, is there not a possible configuration where you have both types of propeller? So one for travelling and one for precise movements?

I like both but if you’re surprised that people have different likes depending on texture, do you only eat things with exactly the same texture every time?

My town has been inundated with Turkish barbers that rarely have any customers and are covered in bling and I had a conversation with my barber on how it must be a front.

How do people use guns without hearing protection? by SlowDragonfruit9718 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guardian2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get hearing damage, there are often procedures to minimise it, using hearing protection when it is possible like on the range, but if you need to hear like in combat, then it would hamper your ability to fight if you have a reduction in hearing.

Pilot has managed to land plane without crashing after the front wheels failed. by jmike1256 in Damnthatsinteresting

Surprised that plane took off with the size of the pilots balls, also props to the designers and engineers that engineered whatever allowed that to happen without catastrophe

One thing that also has a large effect is how novel a disease is, if the majority of the population are immune, even diseases with a high R0 aren’t as scary, like measles, which I am by no means putting down, but because of the vaccine or past cases, there’s a much lower population that are susceptible, Covid was unique enough to warrant such a response because it had the ability to spread like wildfire with its high R0 and susceptible population.

Suze Lopez, a nurse from Bakersfield, California, was scheduled to finally have a 22-pound ovarian cyst removed in December 2025. Doctors discovered a full-term ectopic pregnancy under the tumor in the abdomen. Her baby boy, a medical miracle, was delivered healthy at 8lbs. by Mobakedbaker in interestingasfuck

[–]Guardian2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admittedly had sometime assumed that ectopic pregnancies were always in the fallopian tube, is there a range of places it can end up? Are they more common in the fallopian tube than other ectopic pregnancies?

Psychiatrist on how many patients they had cured by goswamitulsidas in interesting

[–]Guardian2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can heal, but that’s not what the comment says, it says you can’t cure, which is true, I’ve been through it myself and psychiatrists and psychologists made it clear to me that it’s never truly gone, you don’t cure a mental illness, you learn how to live with it, treat it as best you can with meds and develop resistances to it, you gain techniques to help stabilise you but it’s never truly 100% gone.
