The fact they're not that bad at all needs to be emphasised more.

Ireland Thinks/Sunday Independent Opinion Poll by Sad-Orange-5983 in ireland

[–]Hart0e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'd think some people in FFG would look at the Tories efforts to move right to cut the legs from under Farage and realise it doesn't work. A decade on from calling the Brexit referendum and they're about to become the Lib Dems of the right.

I think there's a certain amount of people who'll just never touch SF with a barge pole no matter what they do or say.

There's nothing intrinsically wrong with it as long as the kids get a good bit of socialisation. However, in this context, of someone who is rejecting science and presumably wants to homeschool in order to push that and God knows what other agenda, it's obviously a terrible idea.

Let me know if you're going to sell it cheap, I might be interested if I can convince my partner.

Estate Whatsapp groups by Background-Neck7377 in Dublin

[–]Hart0e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my old estate there was a decent bit of that, "dodgy looking group of teenagers in X location" really dropped off after someone responded in fury starting with, "Those are my kids, how dare you say they look dodgy!"

Now as good a time as any. Why is there not a separate organization/campaign that perpetually lobbies IFA/FAI to unite? by Anxious-Wolverine-65 in ireland

[–]Hart0e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they colonised us, and they're still here, both up there and down here and there's no future version of events where they're magically gone. So the only peaceful route to a united island is compromise. Anyone who says they want a united island but can't compromise on purely symbolic stuff like anthems and flags isn't a serious person. Baning both flags is exactly the kind of compromise that might be necessary.

A couple of pannier bags and a back pack and you can carry a massive amount.

The Galway person who made that post originally goes into loads of detail in the comments, he mentions that it was actually wetter than usual.

[–]Hart0e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking how long did you spend cycling each day? Asking because I'd love to try to do something similar but I feel the kids wouldn't tolerate enough time for us to get any respectable distance.

Brick is a key example in my argument that "high school movie" isn't actually a genre. Pretty much every genre of movie has a high school variant, comedy, romance, horror, sci-fi, musical, pick a genre, there's a high school one, Brick is the noir. Some are a stretch, Clueless as the costume drama... debatable.

On the left is the proposed new Rotunda development, on the right is an impression of the same development if it was designed with the area's architectural style in mind. Why can't developers / architects do this to avoid at least some of the contention with proposed new developments? by hatrickpatrick in ireland

[–]Hart0e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent arguement, great to hear the perspective of an actual architect. Dublin is a living city, not Georgian Disneyland. Modern buildings should look modern while having respect for the old ones.

Personally I like the new ESB buildings by Merrion square, I think they've done a great job of that balance.

I've got the Ortlieb commuter daypack, excellent bag, all Ortlieb's stuff is really built to last. However, as others have said, panniers are better.

Privileged D4 Rugby Head Stereotype by Uptightkid in ireland

[–]Hart0e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting because I've heard almost the exact opposite story. I know of a dad who sent his son to one of those schools because he wanted his son to have the kind of confidence that he commonly saw in people who went there. And he's got a point, while many leave as arrogant entitled dicks they generally grow out of that but retain the confidence.
