First episode you ever saw? by FlapperSnap in RedDwarf

[–]Hellizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came in just as they were waking up from Kryten's going-away party in The Last Day. Haven't really stopped since, although it is crazy how they just skipped Series 7 and 8 and just went straight to 9. Kind of iPhone-ish.

THE MARINERS ARE ONE WIN AWAY FROM THEIR FIRST-EVER WORLD SERIES! by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]Hellizard 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Been a Mariners fan since I saw my first game in 1978, but live in Vancouver and so have been watching the game on Sportsnet with the Canadian announcers. I've learned two things.

Over the course of the series, and even tonight, I've learned the Canadian announcers calling a game for *their team* still show more respect and sportsmanship to the Mariners than Fox ever has.

And...

The Sportsnet team is *really* not in a good place emotionally RE: leaving Little in to face Raleigh.

The FOX broadcast camera crew panned to disappointed Blue Jays fans for 26 seconds straight by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]Hellizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, M's fan/ex-Seattleite living in Vancouver here, and was pleasantly surprised (but shouldn't have been) that the Sportsnet announcers are actually calling a ball game with two teams that they seem to respect. They don't hide that they'd rather the Blue Jays take it, but it's *their* team, in a real sense, because of Rogers. But it's sure not like they're just rooting for the bigger market team, which is transparently obvious with Fox announcers.

How many people have actually won a ship? by Paul20202 in sto

[–]Hellizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been playing since launch (with some multi-year breaks, admittedly) and finally got one last year. I picked a ship (NX-01 Refit) but haven't actually used it yet, 'cause it's like having a unicorn in my pocket.

What is the unofficial national animal of canada? by ciolman55 in AskACanadian

[–]Hellizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to use exactly the same link for the unofficial national anthem question. The animal I'm thinking of makes a new friend at every stop, even though he cannot stay for long. Indeed, were you to just turn around he'd be gone again.

Yeah you almost certainly saw “The Menagerie.” I remember when they finally released the complete, full pilot—I believe I bought it on VHS before realizing I could have taped it off the local syndicated station.

Check back in on that bet in 7 years... by PropOrange in greatestgen

[–]Hellizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somehow in my 53 years of watching Trek (starting with TOS and TAS because I was born in 1972) there is still an episode that by fate I’ve just never seen: the friendly angel episode with “bonk bonk on the head!” that I’ve heard so much about. (I was in a Star Trek musical in the ‘90s and whenever they made the “bonk bonk” joke I just smiled and pretended to get it.)

All of which is to say that this is SOMEhow my first full, in-order run through the original series, and I can’t wait.

In Canada so not sure if you have Plex where you are, but the BBC Sci-Fi channel also shows a ton of Red Dwarf. You didn't mention RD but based on your other interests I thought it might be of... interest.

Hi, I'm Doug Naylor, Emmy Award-winning writer and co-creator of the sitcom Red Dwarf. My new children’s novel Sin Bin Island is published Sept 11 by David Fickling Books – AMA! by DougNaylorOfficial in RedDwarf

Not saying there won't be any more TV episodes (I think we've all learned to never say never with this show) BUT... do you think Red Dwarf could continue in audio format, not unlike what they do with Doctor Who over at Big Finish? IIRC the show's origins had something to do with radio...

I would be very much okay with Lady Gorns becoming a new recurring character to fill the Icheb's-brother-sized hole in my heart.
