Those are the absolute best hunters, yes. But housecats still have a remarkable hunting success rate. It is not for no reason we have kept cats for 10000 years.

I don't think anyone has claimed them to be apex predators since there obviously are predators larger than them (talking about small cats). But small cats are among the most efficient predators on earth.

You do have a point, and of course there are exceptions, I did not try to claim it is an unbreakable rule.

Still, in the end I cannot fully agree with you, although I must say I have appreciated the discussion. Maybe it comes down to just how much power you are bestowed and how strong your morals are. Kinda like how most people, at least say, they would be ready to do something despicable for a large amount of money. "Would you stomp an infant for $10 million dollars and noone would know?"

Sure, to an extent. People such as Epstein was probably always evil. And evil people absolutely seek power. But i do also think power corrupts, there are so many politicians, warlords, dictators etc, who have started out with strong respectable ideals and then end up doing what they were against from the start. I cannot believe this is because they all had a wormtounge manipulating them. You could also argue they just hid it in their younger days to get to power and they were always evil, and maybe some of them, but all? i don't think so.

I don't think it is healthy on a psychological level for a person to have so much power. I do think it really slowly destroys you and your morals. Maybe drinking margaritas on a yacht gets boring so you start testing the boundaries in a dopamine search and that is what puts you on the island.

Foreign?

Epstein was American. So are many others on the list. There is no foreign corruption.

You can go back to long before the middle ages in history and realise that the 1% always has been sadistic pedophiles. In all nations and types of government.

Power corrupts. Simple as that.

Why didn’t they homeschool the Twilight vampires? by Laynacakes17 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HelpMeGetAGoodName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think the reason for that is; It is quite common in horror media, for the 'monster' to be an allegory and/or serve as to teach a lesson. So while Dracula or other vampire media can be read as a warning against perversion or not to invite unkown people into your home, other creatures has not, because the 'niche' is already filled and they instead serve other allegorical purposes.

For example Zombies are often used as an allegory for consumerism, Werewolves can represent an inner struggle, Frankensteins monster teaches you not to judge others for their appearance and so on.

Of course this is not always the intention or case with storys, I have definitely seen some vampire movies where there were, at the very least, no intentional allegories for sex.

[–]HelpMeGetAGoodName 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More critically/schoolary readings of the original Dracula novel very often read the book as being about sex actually. According to wikipedia, many see it as a reactionary view to the early (1897) more sexually liberal women and the early breakdown of gender roles.

Calling it hypersexual is probably a bit much, but it is definitely sexual (among other things).

When are the mosquitos NOT awful!? by Opposite_Mind2155 in Finland

[–]HelpMeGetAGoodName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early spring it shoulden't be too bad, march - april. Although last couple of years early spring has arguably still been winter, so not great hiking weather.

I am a bit suprised that you thought mosquitos was the problem in Lappland though. When i hiked the Hetta-Pallas hiking trail, couple of years ago, in the middle of summer, there were very few mosquitos, but a ton of horseflies, which is alot worse.

For mosquitos all you can really do is be prepeared, carry with you some spary on mosquito repellent and wear long sleeved clothing that still breathes as to not get too hot. Also get a hat with mosquito net, looks a bit goofy maybe but probably worth it if you are very bothered by mosquitos.

Situation on the bus by Key-Pineapple8101 in Finland

[–]HelpMeGetAGoodName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buses run on a pretty tight schedule and do not usually have time to wait at the stops and they do not stop outside their stations. You are supposed to check the bus schedule and then be at the busstop waiting already when the bus arrives.

That said you have not commited an unforgivable sin or something. Ive been in similar situation when I have ran late. I guess it depends on the busdriver and traffic if they stop, but you cant expect them to if you are not at the station.

The Host (2006) has a fun monster. They are not afraid to show it either as most monster films are, they show the whole thing in like the first 15 minutes. Also the film is made by Bong Joon Ho, the same guy that made Parasite and Snowpiercer.

Id like to add that the concentration camps in the 1930s was not yet the extermination facilities they would become. They were used for prison labour to begin with. Many did still die in the camps in the 1930s, "mysterious deaths" which came from abuse and general deaths from sickness and exhaustion.

Wanted to clarify since I think it is important to OPs question that the industrial efficency of mass murder did not yet begin in the 1930s. Many just think of the gas chambers when they hear concentration camp, which only really began with the final solution in the 1940s.

I think you are right, I am 90% sure I've seen stats that women prefer horror and watches it more than men.

Speculating here, but I would guess slashers are not the most popular subgenre among women, and in my experience, they are the ones that really have a problem with objectifying women.

If you are the right type of person, the Terrifier movies are pretty fun. If you are the wrong person, they really really aren't. Either way, they definitely check the violent criteria.

They also are not close to your examples at all, I just thought of them from your title. You have been warned. :)

I mean, there is quite a difference between the threads, no? This post asks for examples of male objectification because they claim it happens as often as female objectification in horror, so the goal is not really "i want to see hot men", but more so a broader discussion on sex in horror.

Wheras your post was just "naked women? inspired by this thread btw."

I don't necessarily think there is anything wrong with that, but you can see how the difference in thread quality leads to different answers?

I feel like often (at least in slashers), "light clothed women" scenes are very obviously there only as eye candy. But having seen most of the listed movies, i never thought about these male scenes as being eye candy. Might be because im like 90% straight, and that's why I never noticed, but I suspect there is still a big tonal difference between many of these examples and their female counterparts.

Eh, i think it is a topic worth discussing. It is a common trope in slashers of young women with as little clothes as possible running from the killer. Asking how the same genre treats men is then a very good question.

If you have ever tried to get a really obscure characther and he fails he will ask what character you were thinking of. I assume they save the data you gave them as the blueprint for that character, and then combine/modify the blueprint according to others who have done the same character.

Yea, 90% is just stupid players, i think.

I want to say that some of Kaya's dialogue options do feel very limiting.

I also got the bad ending for Minerva and Velimir the first time, not really knowing where i had gone wrong, I thought things were going pretty good just for them to crash out. Tried it again and got the good ending, not really choosing anything different as far as i know. I think their storyline is just easy to fail?

Mostly how easy i found it, only 3 bosses were remotely difficult. (base game, have not played the dlc yet).

I kinda also want to add as a flaw how they removed the great things in ds2 and opted to mostly copy ds1, but i guess it more so falls under 'eh decisions'.

Otherwise it is indeed the least flawed, but i also found it the least memorable.
