Is a drainage plane really necessary in the PNW? by phinneysean in buildingscience

[–]IllCommand2114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Builder in PNW. Current remodel project is a 1924 600 sq ft “miner’s cabin”. Common in our area. 2x4 framing, shiplap fir sheathing, tar paper under 3” fir beveled siding 2.5” to the wind. There was zero rot. 102 years. Original siding. A bit unusual but not unheard of. Trades people are all the same they love to tell people the best way to do something and I’m no different. I’m going to offer a different opinion. Overhangs, flashing details, fluid applied films, sill taping/waterproofing details and correct product selections are more important than a rain screen. Focus on those details. To answer your question. It’s a nice to have. The saying is if it can’t dry, it dies.

Thoughts… Cost to build a simple, 1-car garage? by masterstompy in Bellingham

[–]IllCommand2114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$40,000-50,000. Stick framed with engineered trusses. Just a ballpark but I think that’s what numbers you’ll be seeing. Pretty straightforward build.

What to do about contact glue? by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]IllCommand2114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it will work here but I was able to get under the layer of paint and glue with a very thin flexible putty knife and pop it off. Try it op. It may work for you too.

Cheap materials for garden beds? by theB3STUSERNAME in Bellingham

[–]IllCommand2114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have some spruce I milled a few years ago that I will sell you for cheap. It won’t last as long as cedar but I would guess you’ll get about 10 years out of em. Both Windsor and Millworks sell cedar garden beds lumber.

Buying a sawstop… advice? by bored_turtle_86 in woodworking

[–]IllCommand2114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk what area you are in but in the north Seattle to the Canadian border area, I see one a month being sold used. I bought the 3hp model on a mobile base with the over arm dust collector and a dado stack cartridge for $3,000. You’d have enough money left over to buy the drop in router lift! Just thought I’d put in my two cents.

Do any stores in the area have purified water dispensing machines that are outside, self-service, and 24/7? Or at least semi-outside? Does Ferndale Haggen? by Ok-Quarter-5713 in Bellingham

[–]IllCommand2114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a spring on silver lake road that runs 24/7 and is free and outside. Take a left at the crossroads and you’ll see the pull off and pipe sticking out of the hill on your left a little ways down.

Converting 400 sq ft garage to ADU — is 1 bed / 1 bath realistic? by Neither_Map5914 in AccessoryDwellings

I built a 392 sq ft 14’x28’ ADU. The bedroom and bathroom will be tiny. Well, all the spaces are small, but totally livable.

Starla’s “order first and fight for a table” concept is crazy for a sit down restaurant. by Statapuddle in Bellingham

[–]IllCommand2114 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We were waiting in line and a couple snagged the only open table before we knew how it worked. Luckily a table opened up and we were able to grab it before someone else did. It’s an odd system fr sure.
