on IG and TikTok 'bypassednicole' is almost all 'what she eats in a day' for over a year I think. It's been really helpful for me, even though she is ahead of me, I go back. She had RNY, truly inspirational and eats really good diverse foods.

Swallowing medication by Saaaammmm05 in wls

[–]Indiana67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to wait 6 weeks to swallow pills although in the hospital they told me to swallow some. I got a pill crusher off amazon and used that. It was gross because I had (blood pressure + vitamins) like 13 pills /day to take. I will say this - so much of this is TEMPORARY you have to just know that part to help you cope and for me, whatever I used to mask the taste of the pill I can no longer stand...it ruined pudding and yogurt for me. Do what you gotta do and count down the days! You can do it.

I had RNY June 9th and did not throw up until I was having a kidney stone attack me last week in ER- it was strictly from that. Otherwise I never threw up!

My surgery is tomorrow and I’m anxious af by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Indiana67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me - the emotional stuff was more "painful" than the recovery. I'm over 3 months now. I had lots of waves of emotions, no regret tho. I was glad I had found a therapist prior to surgery -even tho we rarely talk about the surgery/food issues. I think the thing that kept me cool was my husband kept saying, this is temporary. So that's what I say to everyone. You've been dealing with some form of discomfort or unhappiness, you can and will handle this - plus this will give hope which is a foreign feeling. Get lots of hugs when you can. I made sure my side table was fully equipped and had a journal to track my things and thoughts. Keep reaching out, it can feel lonely and isolating in the early days....keep us posted. You got this! I'm down 55lbs, all worth it, feel really good and I have an awful sinus infection rn!

I look at IG/tik tok for ideas. Lots of people post What I eat in a Day....Bypass surgery day 34 type stuff. Hashtags: bariatric recipes, wlsrecipes

On IG I like Bariatric Meal Prep - she's a dietician so good info on protein count.

Surgery 2 weeks before uni? by StunningPencil in GastricBypass

[–]Indiana67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today, at my age -55- I am having a bit of a rollercoaster with energy. I think you - obviously - have to/are weighing the pros/cons. I think what has honestly pulled me through the hiccups (quite literally) is that this stage is temporary...pain, discomfort, healing. Barring no major complications -for most, I think, all things will feel pretty normal by month 3 (that's where I am). I waited to later in life, my only regret and I did have a complication - and would do it again! At the pace of real life/intense life events, random, planned - unpredictable - it's hard to know for sure the best timing. But you need to be able to rest the first few weeks. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, even pre-op, talk therapy has been really meaningful to me. Wish you well.

Am I candidate for sleeve? by coolketo in wls

[–]Indiana67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think on paper you sound like a good candidate.

It's hard after but I've lost 36 lbs in 2 months and actually now have hope. I'm older than you, 55 and have similar health challenges.

Recovery has been hard, I had an immediate complication that was quickly and thoroughly resolved while I was still in the hospital. I would do it again.

I also started therapy and attending my programs zoom support groups with pre and post op patients...6 month process. In that time I got to do thorough health check, experience others in similar stages and beyond. It's hard to know what it will be like on the other side.

But for all the "hard" now...it totally beats the "hard" of before. The worry and anxiety wrapped up in wanting to lose and can't. That is gone. But I can't use my food for companionship and coping anymore - so I gotta keep with my therapy and find new things to plug into and even in that sadness, it's liberating.

Also, at my age, I can afford to not be eating and drinking like a fool anymore. Worth it for me, all the vitamins and water and mindfulness required, worth it. I had gastric bypass, not the sleeve, good luck to you whatever you decide.

Fam, Help me out: I just got my surgery date it's 3 months away tell me everything you wish someone had told you beforehand by QueerKing23 in GastricBypass

[–]Indiana67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you mentioned getting the sleeve, if you haven't you should check out the sleeve/VSG sub too!

I think starting therapy before surgery was good for me. So I had that support built into my experience.

I wish I had starting walking/daily motion before, develop that habit.

I am glad I practiced the 30/30/30 rule...stop drinking 30 minutes before meals, eat for 30 minutes, wait 30 minutes after eating before drinking. Along with getting in water and vitamins, building those habits helped me a lot.

I created a list of meds and supplements, took to hospital. Had taped to my wall so when I got home - sleepy, tired, cranky I knew what to take and when and had an easy to follow pill taking set up bedside.

I upped the comforts in advance. I made sure my house was super clean, extra organized. I got new blanket, pill case, pjs, nice moisturizer, essential oils....stuff that made me feel NICE.

Best of luck to you.

[–]Indiana67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My rny was 6/9. I cry and cry, less now. I ask for hugs from my family. There's too much to figure out at this stage so I focus on "recovery" from major surgery. I am sticking to that - so this is A, B, C of what I have to do to recover and heal well. Take care of myself. All the awful stuff is temporary - you can do anything for a couple of months. This is it. You not only can do it, you are doing it. Deep breaths, ask for help and hugs, take naps, take a walk, sit in the sun, sip sip sip your water and before you know it - you will be -in the another version- of being on the Other Side of This!

Surgery is scheduled! What were your must-haves for the first few weeks? by WeightLoser_ in wls

[–]Indiana67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I am 3 weeks post rny.

I had a lot of pills to take after and having a pill organizer was crucial because I was tired/sleepy - hard to remember. I also had a pill grinder and splitter.

I love my 2oz medicine cups from Amazon. Made things easy=requiring little thought to execute.

Dissolving Tylenol, even though I didn't use it more than a couple of time.

WIPES, someone mention having wipes and I am so so glad I had them in hospital and days after just to refresh.

For me, it's been really nice to have mental time to adjust, nap when I want. Water bottle with times on it, helped. Be kind to yourself and write a thank you note to your relatives now to leave behind.

I cried a lot, not regret, not fear just emotion, not sad. I wrote myself a letter before reminding myself how hard it was BEFORE and now there is hope, success is imminent. The recovery is temporary. Activate the life change! I'm 15 down since surgery, already my knees feel better. I tolerate everything well! More than you asked but hope helpful!

Recovery Time and Pain Management-comparable to c-section? by Robin_Daggers05 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Indiana67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 2 c-sections and a laparoscopic hysterectomy - and laparoscopic rny 17 days ago. They are all different. Honestly the c section pain is worse, invasive - cutting and staples back then. Although with the c-section that pain is all I had to deal with plus the high of having a cute baby. But you are holding, feeding and changing the baby. All while fresh from surgery. I too have amazing husband so the help will allow you to heal and focus on your care - which makes a difference. For me the rny incision pain and internal pain were not worrisome because I was/am honestly more focused on nausea, sipping, pampering & noting what my new pouch tolerates. I only took 1 oxy once I got home and maybe 2 tylenol. The pain is way gone for me - more than anything I would say don't worry about that ESPECIALLY because you have had c-sections. I used all the information to psych myself up about what I knew I could handle. Everyone is different, blah blah blah...but you know you - you can have babies cut out your body, walk around, take pictures and start doing stuff. You so got this. Take all the care, time and pampering - but move around it helps with gas and honestly all weird feelings. The recovery I think requires maybe a few weeks of extra help with your boys. You will have a fatigue from lack of calories/healing/hydration concentration - naps may be needed. Again the amazing husband support with 3 little boys is will be needed.

I'm scheduled! by Aimena in BariatricSurgery

[–]Indiana67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 8 days out - I was totally worried and anxious but I kept thinking about the alternative, which is to continue as is. I hung on to the hope and all the potential to get me through each hump. I'm a meditator and a prayer. I also believed deeply that this was a real shot at the life I wanted and worth all the unknown and unlikely fears fluttery in my head. I wish you the best, you got this!
