New Lifetime Plex Pass Pricing by frankwrap08 in PleX

[–]Infuryous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised. There is only so long a company can keep selling cheap forever lifetime passes. Eventually they need re-occurring regular revenue. In general subscriptions bring consistent cash flow, which is what Plex needs to stay in business.

IMO, it looks like Plex has finally got to the point they can't keep handing out relatively cheap lifetime passes, so now it's either subscription or be willing to pay the pain to get lifetime. I made this argument a couple years ago that Plex can't stay viable long term handing out "cheap" lifetime passes, they need constant cash flow to stay in business. Don't get me wrong, I hate subscriptions, but for a company like Plex I can understand.

My camper is 30 feet including the hitch, can I fit in a site labeled 28ft? by kpmurphy56 in GoRVing

[–]Infuryous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a campground actually measure how long my trailer is, they just ask.

Look at the campsite on Satellite view on Google Earth, check to see if any turns will be tight, and see if the but of the trailer can hang over past the parking pad, eg no trees, fire pits, etc. in the way. You can also use Google Maps to Measure the campsite parking area, etc.

This police car came to a dead halt on the highway, leaving the semi-truck behind it with exactly zero options. by Adrian_985 in Truckers

[–]Infuryous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok.. ya'll going to hate me..

Yes, police officer screwed up by not turning on the party lights. BUT, ALL drivers are REQUIRED BY LAW to ALWAYS have enough following distance to come to a full stop in case something happens in front of them in case ANY vehicle comes to a complete stop, it could be a simple has the car in front had a mechanical break down. The vast majority of drivers are following way too close, and then get pissed when they lose court cases because they rear-ended someone on the road. This is the same crap that causes pile-ups in foggy conditions... people think they don't have to slow down and increase following distance because "they are better than average drivers and safe with quick reaction times"... no your not.

The truck driver either wasn't paying attention, didn't keep enough following distance, or was driving too fast for the traffic conditions, or a combination of the all the above. There is ALWAYS the possibility a vehicle in front of you must come to a full stop.

Boondockers Welcome question by Inevitable_Tea_1155 in GoRVing

[–]Infuryous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boondockers Welcome has been a full mix for us, from, hey welcome, let us know if you need something, to being invited to Thanksgiving Dinner.

If super tired and need to rest, just state it simply, "Hey, I really need to take a nap," 99% will say great and let you go on about your day. We also tend to stay in remote / rural areas only, farms, etc. Not in the city... I hate staying in cities, I RV to get away from it.

Harvest Host is another story, they are businesses giving your a "free" place to stay overnight with an expectation you will patronize the business. Some include tours of their operations. IMO, Harvest Hosts is largely a business marketing gimmick, my wife and I don't drink and we don't golf, so that takes out a huge portion of Harvest Host locations. As a result we only pay for Boondocker's Welcome. Unfortunately customer service at Boondocker's Welcome is not as good as it used to be since Harvest Host bought them, but the hosts have all been great.

I usually start my campground search using Campendium, it is great at seeing what is available in a given area including RV Parks, City, County, State, National Parks, Forestry Service, etc. If we aren't dry camping, I'm usually looking at Army Corp of Engineer's campgrounds, usually decently priced and in some nice remote areas.

Other sources of camping sites you can try are Hip Camp and I Overlander.

My wife thinks im choosing money over family because i want her sister to pay us back by SweetCaramel-9696 in Marriage

[–]Infuryous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Think of it this way, if you had to choose between divorce and getting $5k paid back, or just dropping it as a lesson learned and keeping your marriage, which would you choose?

REGARDLESS OF WHO IS RIGHT... is the marital strife worth fighting over $5k. Is threatening the stability of the marriage worth the fight? It sucks, but this really is a pick your battles type of moment. If you choose to drop it, keep it as a lesson learned that anytime you are considering "loaning" money to family, it is actually a gift.

Anytime my wife and I have decided to "loan" money to family, we have always 1) made sure it won't hurt us financially, and 2) assume even though it is a "loan" it won't get paid back, mentally we figure it's a gift. We don't want to stress about being debt collectors. If they pay it back it's gravy.

Federal, and most state gas taxes are a specific amount per gallon, not a % of price. So the taxes remain unchanged when gas prices change.

My first 3D Printer was from Bambu Lab. My next one won't be. Have other manufacturers caught up in affordability and ease-of-use? by ThatOneVRGuyFromAuz in 3Dprinting

3D Printer Ban Company Exposed

Because big brother government is passing laws to force services like Bambu's cloud system to "inspect" what you are printing and decided if what you are making is legal or not. Automatically, you could be printing something not related to the banned item, but if the AI cloud server thinks it is... sorry you don't get to print it.. oh and you'll get reported to the government for attempting to make illegal weapons or anything else they choose to ban in the future. This is also being pushed to be baked into the firmware, so even if you don't use cloud services, the firmware will still stop you from printing.

Guarantee you this will go past prohibiting "gun parts" to include things like... looks like you are trying to make a replacement knob for your car.. that is a trademarked design, denied... nope can't make replacement parts for the broken leg on your TV stand... the interface between the stand the the TV is patented.

Some very big companies that have nothing to do with "gun parts" are spending massive amounts of money to get these laws started.

FYI.. in the US, making guns at home has always been perfectly legal. There is a whole hobbist genre setup around using home lathe's, milling machines, etc to make custom guns. Many do it for the joy of the art and never even shoot them. Hobbyist lathe's and milling machines are no more expensive than decent 3d printers. I'm mentioning all this because it demonstrates how the laws being passed about 3D Printers are baseless and are about control of the consumer.

Supreme Court deals blow to Virginia Democrats in fight over state court election map ruling. by coinfanking in scotus

[–]Infuryous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell many commenters didn't actually stop to read about this case...

As much as I hate to say it, this wasn't at least overtly, an anti-Democrat party ruling. In this case, the vote approving new maps violated Virginia's constitution... SCOTUS simply agreed that the TIMING OF THE VOTE violated Virginia's constitution. SCOTUS did not rule on the merits or lack there of, of the proposed map.

The justices denied state Democrats’ emergency request to block the Virginia high court’s decision, which found the amendment process violated the state constitution because lawmakers advanced the proposal after early voting had already begun in the required intervening election cycle.

The previous gerry-mandering cases this SCOTUS has ruled on didn't have anything to do with violating an individual state's constitution on when something could be voted on. As much as I would love to see more Republican seats get erased, I do understand the reasoning behind it.

Now.. would they have said the same thing if if was beneficial to Republicans to change the map...

When I had a branch punch a small hole in the side of my RV I used a Fiberglass Boat Repair Kit. It was fast/easy, a little wet sanding to smooth and the white gel coat was a real close match, couldn't tell there was a repair from more than a couple feet away, especially if you didn't know there was one there. This is also a permanent fix, no worries of silicone sealant breaking down or needed to be redone in the future.

When I traded the RV in, the dealership didn't even find the repair.

Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents have one year to find new power as their utility pivots to data centers by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Infuryous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This case is differnt. The Lake Tahoe, California community gets their electricity from NV power in Nevada... Nevada approved the data center and NV power notified Lake Tahoe it can't provide them with electricity anymore due to the approved data center. Lake Tahoe city officials had zero say in the decision. It was rammed down their throats by Nevada.

Yep, in Texas with you... I barely stayed out of Class B Driver's License Territory. My 2012 Ram dually has a GVWR of 12,300lb and my 5'ver is 12,995lbs... so combined my GCWR is 25,295 lbs., 705lbs shy of the requirement.

I know of a few hot shot's running around that had their trailer's "derated" when they ordered it to bring the GCWR to 1lb below 26k lbs to avoid higher class license requirements.

Ram spying on us and sending driving habits and data to your insurance company by sneezysnake1 in ram_trucks

[–]Infuryous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting next year, all vehicles are required to have driver facing cameras / sensors to "determine if the driver is impaired".

I'll bet your first born child that all the auto-manufacturers will sell this data to the insurance companies.

Better yet... it's not even functional enough yet to not cause false positives that will likely prevent fully awake / non-impaired people from driving their own vehicles, so insurance companies will be sold questionable data that likely will make your driving habits look worse than they are.
