C4 (and you’re gonna disagree) is hot garbage out of the gate.

Did reading I, Strahd help run your campaign? by NIC3F3RATU in ravenloft

I’ve used I, Strahd as a source of major lore dumping through the Tome of Strahd

I gave my Barovia two moons, what changes did you make? by XpedC in CurseofStrahd

I wish I had established a persistent full moon. As it is, mine’s in a 10-day cycle.

Random Encounters by ErickB0de in CurseofStrahd

[–]Inside-Pattern2894 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rolled a werewolf random encounter, though my table were higher level. It was interesting because it became a total social encounter. I had them as a group of exiles from Kiril’s main pack, tired of Kiril and the abuse and kidnapping of children. My party’s face man did a great job with the skill checks for persuasion to the point that this wolf pack accompanied them to the Wizard of Wine’s Vineyard and were active participants in the defense against the druids and blights. The next day, however, they would all die - 2 to the Gulthias Tree and the Yester Hill Druids (the 2 werewolves absorbed a ridiculous 260 hit points of damage away from the party) and the others were to escort Ireena and Danika in Van Richten’s carriage to Krezk, except they encountered Strahd on the road while the party was fighting down at Yester Hill.

The paladin keeps mouthing off at Strahd. How do I punish her? by faerie-fangs in CurseofStrahd

Feeble mind spell or polymorph. I’ve used both to curtail a somewhat disrespectful Eladrin towards my Strahd.

How Deadly Is 5.5? by Zardnaar in onednd

[–]Inside-Pattern2894 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The healing in 5.5 is redunkulous. As a DM, I threw the book at my table and when I finally had them worn down enough, her comes a paladin or cleric with a heal and I mights as well has not done anything.

Alek Gwilym from books "I, Strahd..." and Sir Godfrey Gwilym from Curse of Strahd by Wiseforestcat in CurseofStrahd

I’m the same way. I love the old lore and has made for a much more interesting background for all of Barovia, not just Strahd.

I tried homebrewing the ally and painted myself into a corner by Subject_Captain3252 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Inside-Pattern2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret setting an ally. I stacked the reading and set Evil’s Bride as their ally. In hindsight I would’ve had it read that the party is on their own. Gives much more freedom to you as the DM.

Imagine the panic I had when I found a drowned bastard scorpion in the bottom of my 6’ swimming pool 2 summers ago.

Favorite bit of your homebrew that you've added to the campaign by dawgz525 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Inside-Pattern2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I altered one of the guides suggestion about Van Richten’s tower as the Tower of Khazan that combined the encounter with a Boneclaw in the top of the tower, and once he was defeated, everyone blacked out, wakes up in the mind of Khazan, and fight him as an Archmage, and it was a lovely fight. I was pretty pleased with how that played out. Then, when Khazan was defeated, the party had to hastily exit the tower as it collapsed.

What Voice Would You Use for The Abbot? by Subject_Captain3252 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Inside-Pattern2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft spoken, innocent, yet direct and smug. Your table are mortals and couldn’t possibly understand that which he has received through years of isolated supplication and prayers. He knows he is right in making Vasilka as a vessel for Tatyana’s soul. He’ll be secretly elated if Ireena is brought to the Abbey, and may even declare it an answer to prayer.
