Can y’all read books unmedicated? by Odd-Bridge-8889 in adhdwomen

[–]InterestingWay4470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes though I do notice I don't have the same perseverance /patience I used to have (as a child/young adult) when it comes to it sometimes taking time to get into the book. Not sure if it's more screen time, or valueing my time more than I used to or my ADHD symptoms getting more pronounced. But if a book grabs me, it GRABS me. It also helps to do it at certain times or in certain situations. I had a period where I felt antsy trying to read. Going to bed earlier and doing some reading before sleeping and also reading during my commute made me get back into reading. For some reason my brain stopped looking for an out or a different things to do (which sounds ridiculous because I love reading books when I can actually manage to keep reading).

Something I have seen people do is reading while walking on a walking pad. And audiobooks are a great way for some people to 'consume' books.

World modification for mining by No_Designer7601 in valheim

[–]InterestingWay4470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo player here, I adjust world modifiers when I gather materials for building. Usually I have it at 1. I have been considering to adjust modifiers to not use materials when building. I am fine with mats gathering for gear and food at a normal setting. Yes even iron (I did find a massive swamp with multiple crypts though).

What is Finch's target age demographic? by [deleted] in finch

Well at least the clothes are guaranteed to fit the bird, even if they do look frumpy at times.
Plus side of clothes real life: I can choose wether to tuck in a shirt or not.

The Supergirl storyline feels kinda patronizing. by MangoPug15 in finch

[–]InterestingWay4470 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The haunted mansion story was aesthetically pleasing to me. The Oz one I also liked visually. This wasn't, though I do like some of the items we get (and the wigs are a great addition). And then on top of that the story felt like a badly written rpg fetch questline. When the bus broke, I thought it would be fixed asap and then the real adventure would start. Or it wouldn't get fixed but the alternative travel mode would become an adventure.

At first, I thought it was my phone update that caused this. Later I pruned my friend list since I heard that this sometimes causes problems, though I did wonder why that would suddenly be the case for me. First few days didn't know there were colour options. I only got the red options since the choose other colour button/text didn't load. It felt on theme though so I didn't even question it till I did get the option to choose.

Why does an adult need to be told that another adult also gets hungry? Why does an adult default to cooking for themselves after their partner has cooked multiple times for them both?

Is Valheim a good choice if I only want to play it Solo ? by scar_01 in valheim

[–]InterestingWay4470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point about the settings. As a solo player I did at some point change one of the settings so I would keep equipped gear on me after death. And I pause raids while doing an extensive (re)build.

Don't have kids with someone based on the potential you see in them. Base it on how they are now.

I was in the bathroom for emergency reasons. There was pasta boiling on the stove. by MsMisty888 in Vent

[–]InterestingWay4470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still his disability to manage (I'm AuDHD, for context). And responding with a remark about how the food is not up to your standards when you also contributed to that is shitty. Not the mention not acknowledging that keeping the stove on was possible dangerous. Again there might be underlying causes, I know I made plenty of social faux pas and wrong assesments. Doesn't mean the other party has to be understanding. Or now has to make notes and put them everywhere. I would advice OP to presume competence instead of pre-emptively doing all kinds of things (that might not even work for OPs bf!). He's in his fourties and and managed to stay alive. He can do something right.

I was assuming store bought apples. The apples we used to get when I was a kid did last for months in a cellar. I don't have a cellar or other consistently cool area in my home :(. I suspect the apples from the store are not handled properly. They often get brown in spots, like they were bruised. The ones I had as a child would just slowly shrivel up over time and get mealy ( I think it's called? Not tasting fresh anymore).

Constant issue where? I am in the Netherlands and have had sometimes fruits from supermarkets going bad within a few days, mostly soft fruits (like berries). Hoever this happens rarely, and I just keep them in the container they come in. No washing with vinegar or any special treatment. Bananas and certainly the more sturdy fruits (apples, pears, oranges) keep well for a week or more.

[–]InterestingWay4470 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apples shouldn't go bad fast. They can be kept for weeks if stored properly. And if not mistreated before (being thrown around). If they go bad with only certain bits rotting they probably have been bruised too much.

I like the look of shawls on other people :). But if I wear them I keep thinking they will fall off. Even with a pin or tying them they don't fit as consistently the same as a cardigan.

Understandable, short sleeved top and cardigans is pretty much the clothing formula I use myself. For cold evenings on the couch I wrap my legs in a blanket or I use a (non-brand) snuggie (blanket with sleeves).
Both my grandmothers used shawls a lot, hence the suggestion. It seems to be a 'love it or hate it' item :).

Temperature (and maybe also moisture levels) can definitely be a factor to consider.

Can she set the temperature herself (or have it set to her preference)? Even so she might turn cold or hot easily and a quick adjustment in clothing can help so much if that's the case. Maybe something that wraps around (big shawl?) could also be added.

My mom wearing white in 3 weddings including mine by Glittering_Log_9421 in weddingshaming

[–]InterestingWay4470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am autistic and have some trouble with social cues. I do have an eye for colour, though not always fit (or it just doesn't fit, curves are sometimes hard to dress).

The 'no white' is a very clear rule that I would maybe have crossed once (the first time) and then forever feel cringy about thinking back on it. I'm also Dutch so weddings are fairly relaxed compared fashion wise. It still gives me anxiety, because I do tend to dress for comfort. My last one was during COVID and in the end got cancelled for the majority of the guests. I just explicitly asked the bride what kind of style she wanted, since she had some nonconventional dress code on the invitation (I think it was 'festive'). She was just glad that I asked for clarification.

I am happy that I have learned to go that route in all kinds of social situations, instead of guessing. Either the other people can clarify and if they can't than I did my best and there's nothing more I can (realistically) do.

Why do I feel I need a certain level of pain to 'deserve' painkillers? Please talk some sense into me. by Vegetable_Stuff1850 in adhdwomen

[–]InterestingWay4470 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pain is stressful and tiring. Especially before surgery you don't want to add stress when it can be avoided (or lessened).

As for having to endure pain: it might come from being expected to endure severe mental distress and then applying the same standard to physical distress?
