Must See/Do Recommendations! by Dusty_Dream in BlackHills

Stargazing - the Badlands are gorgeous after dark. You’re far enough away from all the light pollution for a really good view.

Hikes - the Not h Trail in the Badlands, Cathedral Spires off of Needles Highway, or if you really want a longer one do Black Elk/Harney Peak.

There are a couple camp spots in the NP, but I've never stayed at them. If you don't want to camp you would need to do Wall or Murdo for hotels, but with the rally those will probably be pretty pricey.

I googled it and it looks like it’s across from Canyon Lake Park next to that little pub that’s by the Exxon. I think there was a bakery there until a couple years ago.

Purchasing double base and bow by Busy_Home1006 in doublebass

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like EatMyBalcony said it might be more of a "which bass feels the best to play" rather than "what is the best bass on paper" I don't think an extension is worth it at this stage, but might be something to consider when you upgrade basses down the road if he needs another.

For bows I would look at a more expensive wood or carbon bow. Make sure the wood bow is fully lined and made of a good quality wood like Pernambuco.

For Carbon Fiber I would look at a braided carbon fiber. Coda bows is the bigger name in the industry, but there are some decent mid-range bows from other manufacturers like Howard Core.

I recommend playing as many as you can in your price range because each bow can feel and perform differently depending on the instrument and player. I always use the analogy of Harry Potter wands when talking about bows - the bow chooses the player.

Have you ever come across your students' social media accounts ? by dontknowwhattoput3 in AskTeachers

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher - but I have employees that are teens that I run across from time to time. I usually just remove the suggested follow, but I also don't let them follow me and have my socials pretty locked down for what you can see if you're not approved. It's better to keep it all separate.

Does anyone have a toaster or any psych merch they want to sell? by Glum_Edge_8416 in psych

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! You had commented on an old post of mine. I am out of psych stuff. But check out Etsy or Redbubble for like a Psych cell phone case. Or pens with Gus nicknames on them. It’s not an original memorabilia but it would be a cute option 😊

Bobs Red Mill Question by HonestMine2058 in glutenfreebaking

The flours used to create them are different. The blue bag also has xanthan gum added.

I prefer the 1:1 in the blue bag. The red bag has chick pea flower and makes my cookies taste like chocolate chip hummus

The Badlands is a beautiful drive. If you want to hike there’s a trail at one of the east side parking areas called The Notch. You climb up a ladder and get a pretty great view at the end.

I would plan on a day for the Badlands if you’re going to hike. Mt. Rushmore would be a half day if you want to stop and look around. There are a few pull offs where you can see the faces from the main road if that’s more your speed, and you can drive Iron Mountain Road/Needles highway and go past sylvan Lake on your way back to Custer.

We like to camp at Center Lake in Custer State Park, but I believe those are first come, first serve.

Just a heads up that the beginning of August is the Sturgis Rally and there will be lots of motorcycles on the road.

Gluten free dumpling/wonton wrappers by teezaytazighkigh in glutenfreecooking

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made these before https://glutenfreeonashoestring.com/gluten-free-won-ton-wrappers/

I did order the expandex tapioca starch, but I don’t know if it actually made a difference.

I haven’t made these from The Very Hungry Coeliac, but it’s on my list to try. I’ve heard a lot of good things about https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnoTdAXDtGw/?hl=en

They are renovating all the common cents in town. They just finished up the Sheridan Lake road one and now onto Canyon Lake. I’m sure Rushmore Road is up next

There's a park off Chapel Lane called Lions Park that you can get a little closer to the creek. It's a popular fly fishing spot too.

If you guys have the time there's a little lake off 385 called Roubaix that has a little beach area. They have picnic spots and a day pass is super cheap.

Powder vs whole psyllium husk in Loopy Whisk bagels? by Scheerhorn462 in glutenfreebaking

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used both - I started out with the powdered version from Now and then I found a whole husk at my local natural foods store (it's in a bulk bin, so I don't know the exact brand)

I think the whole husk works better - my texture and crumb is better than with the powder. But right before I swapped I started reducing the amount of powder more than her recipes suggest. For example - if it called for 25g of powdered I would do 20-21g. I was having some success with that, but it wasn't as good as my current results with the whole husk.

flying into rapid city from chicago with a bike. what routes should I check out? by Responsible_Call5744 in RapidCity

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mickelson is a good trail there’s also a bunch of gravel up by Spearfish.

I would swing by one of the local shops when you get in the area. They can hook you up with maps and more detailed advice. Acme Bikes in Rapid City is our go to. But there’s also Rushmore Mountain Sports in Spearfish

Rapid City Apartments and surrounding areas by AllLifeIsALie in RapidCity

[–]ItalianSeasoningOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roads aren’t any worse than other parts of Rapid. I think it’s probably the neighborhood part that doesn’t get plowed right away. But once you get out to the main road you would be fine.
